In many countries, a Russian bath is appreciated. It uses a lot of utensils: buckets, buckets, ladles, ladles, mugs. But the most important thing is that you cannot do without a broom in the steam room. A wide variety of these products are used in the bath: birch, oak, coniferous, nettle, eucalyptus, wormwood and many others. Let us dwell in more detail on linden brooms for a bath.

Benefit and harm

It is common knowledge that linden is a medicinal plant... Its flowers are used as a treatment and prevention of many diseases: colds, bronchitis, tonsillitis, as well as a diuretic and antipyretic agent. Therefore, a linden broom is undoubtedly useful. Its use will help eliminate insomnia, headache, relieve stress, soothe, soften the skin, make hair shiny and silky.

The harm of a linden broom can only be in case of individual intolerance to this plant. In addition, a person with cardiovascular diseases is strictly prohibited from visiting the steam room.

Unfortunately, we have fewer lindens left, and linden brooms are becoming a rarity among sauna lovers.

Harvesting linden

Linden branches are cut at the beginning of flowering trees. This will be different for different regions. Basically, the mass flowering of linden occurs in the period from late May to early June. At this time, all the vital forces of the plant are activated, so a broom of linden twigs will have a maximum of useful substances.

For blanks, young shoots with light leaves should be cut from the tree... The length of such branches should reach 40-50 cm. Harvesting should be done in the morning in dry, cool weather. Cutting cuttings that are covered with dew or moisture after rain will turn them black when dried.

You need to choose a tree carefully: it must be healthy, free from dry rot, rust and insect damage. The leaves should hold firmly to the branches, without falling off when shaken.

It is best to cut the shoots from trees growing in forests. If this is not possible, you need to choose trees that grow far from busy roads, factories, ecologically unfavorable places.

Cut linden branches must be tied in bundles and send to dry... The workpieces should be dried in a suspended state with the cuts up. For this, an attic, shed or dressing room is suitable.

If there is nowhere to hang the workpieces, you can lay them out on hay or straw, providing free air access from all sides and avoiding high humidity. A properly dried linden broom will have a faint woody-honey aroma and a natural yellow-green color..

This bath accessory can be stored for 3-4 years, but you need to take into account the fact that every year its healing properties decrease even in ideal storage conditions.

Storage rules

You can store linden brooms in different places and in several ways.

  1. Hanging storage. In other words, where the raw materials were dried, the finished products were left there. But at the same time, you need to make sure that there is a distance of 15-20 cm between them for ventilation. It is hardly worth reminding that the room should be dry.
  2. Under the press... The workpieces should be laid out on a flat surface, covered with plywood or boards and pressed down with a load. When stored this way, the brooms will become flat and fan-shaped.
  3. Wrapped in paper or polyethylene... If there are a lot of blanks of linden brooms, and there is little storage space, then this method is suitable. But before that, the workpieces must be well dried in order to avoid the appearance of mold or decay processes. Each broom must be wrapped in paper or polyethylene, and then stacked on top of each other in a box or on a shelf.
  4. Frozen. The best way to preserve all the beneficial properties of linden and its freshness. In this case, linden branches do not need to be dried after cutting. They must be tied into bundles immediately after collection and stored in freezers. A visit to a bathhouse with a "fresh-frozen" broom will bring a lot of benefits and pleasure.

How to steam properly?

A linden broom can be used several times, but for this you need to know how to steam properly. Only dry brooms should be subjected to this procedure. Fresh can be used immediately, and frozen must be removed from the freezer and left at room temperature until completely defrosted.

The broom can be steamed using the following methods.

  1. You must have two basins. One with warm water, the other with cold water. First, the broom must be rinsed in clean water to wash off possible dirt or dust on it, then immersed in cold water for 2-3 minutes. After that, the product is dipped in a bowl of warm water for 4-5 minutes. After the specified time, the broom is poured with boiling water, covered with a towel and left so for 10 minutes. In this case, the broom handle must remain dry.
  2. The dry product is carefully washed with cool water, but they do it carefully so that the inflorescences and leaves do not fly around. Then they take hot water (80 degrees Celsius) into a container and put a broom there for 20-30 minutes. Wait until the cuttings acquire their original softness. After that, the linden broom can be used as intended.
  3. An early method of preparing a linden broom, in which a dry broom must be put in cold water for several hours. Then wrap it in a damp towel and leave it that way overnight. In the morning, unfold and pour over with boiling water.

Usage Tips

Experts recommend that you familiarize yourself with some tips before heading to the sauna with a linden broom.

  1. If the water, in which the linden broom was steamed, is poured onto a hot stove, you get a steam that is not only fragrant and pleasant, but also has beneficial effects: soothing, relaxing, making breathing easier.
  2. A linden broom will help heal minor skin lesions: wounds, scratches, and heal rashes.
  3. This bath accessory can only be used the second time you enter the steam room. And also do not forget that it should always be wet, so more often you should dip it in a bowl of warm water.
  4. In order to avoid burns, steam must be injected with a linden broom very carefully.
  5. Do not whip with a broom in the chest area (only light stroking is allowed).
  6. It must be remembered that a linden broom is not intended for whipping and dispersing blood, as many mistakenly think. The function of a bath broom is to help circulate hot steam (sometimes the broom does not even touch the body), to release essential oils and serve as a light massage tool.

By observing these recommendations for the preparation, storage and use of linden brooms, you can enjoy visiting the bathhouse and improve your health.
