The adjoining territory and suburban area is not just a functional area, but also a place for recreation, which should be comfortable and beautifully decorated. Everyone is looking for their own solutions and design options. One of the stylish elements in landscape design is a dry stream.

What it is?

There are many design elements that can beautify and transform the landscape. One of the most popular is the dry stream. Its arrangement will not cause difficulties even for beginners taking their first steps in landscape design. The name speaks for itself. And the whole composition looks like a stream.

And how interesting and high-quality the imitation will be depends on the imagination, ability and desire to transform your site.

Usually this structure is made of stones, and specimens of different sizes can be used: small pebbles, large cobblestones. It all depends on the general concept. Its configuration and length are unlimited. It all depends on the area and shape of the site itself. Such compositions are complemented with flowers, conifers, all kinds of designs and decorative elements. There are absolutely no strict restrictions here - you can experiment and enjoy your work.

The dry stream is convenient in that it can decorate any area, giving it a certain zest, but the cost of reproducing this design is minimal. And, most importantly, no care is required - the one that would be necessary if the reservoir was natural.

Views

The stream can be of several types. Everyone chooses the one that is more convenient to recreate in a certain area, or just the one that will look harmonious among other things.

Winding

Such a stream can pass throughout the territory, winding and wriggling like a snake. This option is especially relevant in spacious areas. This design will look good with small pebbles. But do not make the stream too narrow, because decoration will be placed along its impromptu banks. The stream should not get lost against the background of other objects. But the same winding stream can also be created from flowers. A blue stream through the entire territory of bells, cornflowers or ageratums will look very fresh and elegant. However, you can choose any color, like the plants themselves.

If the stream is made of stones, then small herbaceous, coniferous plants or flowers can be planted along the edges. But not along the entire length, but only in certain areas. The stone stream can also be decorated with art objects.

It can be a bridge over a stream, and some fabulous house, or a stump with a forest animal, or just a log.

Ramified

The device of a branched stream is also not so complicated. And it is more appropriate to perform such an option in a more compact area, where there is no way to create winding structures. In this case, several branches can radiate from the center. This option can be realized even in a large round flower bed.

but and on a large plot where there is an opportunity to give free rein to imagination, you can create such a composition. Then there will be a center in it, from which streams will emanate to different ends of the garden, each of them will have its own additional design. And here there can be a lot of ideas - both in the design of the strings of the brook themselves, and in the selection of the appropriate decor.

Waterfall

The imitation of a cascading stream of water is very easy to implement for those who have an uneven area. On the contrary, it will be a winning moment. Having carefully laid larger stones, you can put the stems of climbing plants on them or simply connect large stones with small pebblesth. But if you wish, nothing prevents you from creating an artificial hill and still building a stone waterfall.

The edges of the waterfall can be decorated with various plantings.

The waterfall can smoothly turn into a small lake, in which decorative elements can also be installed. It can be a pair of bright fish or a frog on a water lily leaf. There are a great many garden figurines in the store, they can also be made by hand.

A stone lake can also be an independent element of landscape design., if it is not possible to build a waterfall or a branched stream.

How to choose plants?

When choosing plants, you need to take into account the scale of the artificial reservoir itself. If the stream is small, then the plants should be quite compact. With a wide and powerful waterfall, you can choose larger plants.

Plants can be found both along the banks of a stone stream or lake, and in it. It all depends on the author's idea and the general concept.

But, one way or another, these can be certain types.

  • Groundcover. These plants can perfectly settle both on the shore and in the stream itself, looking between the stones. There are a lot of such plants, it all depends on personal preference. This can be, for example, bryozoan, sedum, creeping thyme, alissum, highlander, periwinkle, ivy.
  • Flowers. Any kind can decorate the composition. You just need to decide what you want: variegated colors or strictly selected colors. Flowers can also be located in stones that imitate a reservoir, and beyond. Peonies, asters, cornflowers, forget-me-nots, pansies, petunias, roses are suitable for such purposes. Flowers can be supplemented with herbs that will both decorate the site and be useful. These include mint, sage, yarrow.
  • Cereals. Cereals are becoming more and more popular in decorating plots and creating interesting compositions. You can choose Chinese miscanthus or meadow mane, maned barley or falyaris, sesleria, molinia and lagurus are suitable.
  • Shrubs. These types of plantings are also permissible to use, but in small quantities and do not allow them to grow strongly, forming the crown correctly. You can use roses, elderberry, barberry, heather, azalea.
  • Conifers. This option is always a win-win, and many people decorate their plots with conifers, because even in winter a stone stream in their surroundings will look great. Choose miniature representatives. Basically, these are a variety of junipers, you can also use small thuja, cypress, spruce.

How to do it on the site?

Everyone can make a dry stream in the country or in the courtyard of a country house. You just need to think about how all this will look, stock up on the necessary materials, and then gradually implement your plans - and, perhaps, not in one day or even in a week.

In such a case, step-by-step instructions can come in handy.

  1. Everything should start with a preliminary plan. You should not only think about where and what will be located and what materials will be used, but also depict the drawing on paper. It is also necessary to indicate how the stream will be located: whether it will be winding or branched, whether the presence of a waterfall or a lake is envisaged. You need to decide in advance where and what shrubs and flowers will be located, what decorative elements will be used.
  2. Then you need to purchase materials. First of all, stones (large, small), film, agrofibre, boards for creating decorative elements.Well, after that you can start work according to the plan.
  3. First you need to dig a small trench, don't make it too deep. It must be carefully freed from debris and weeds. Some people make a base with two pieces of downpipes, which is also a good option. But you can do this: cover the dug trench with black agrofibre. This will ensure that unnecessary weeds will not appear in the stream in the future.
  4. The next step will be filling the prepared container with stones, then larger stones are placed along the banks. If this is a waterfall, then it is formed by making elevations from scrap materials.
  5. After the stones are filled up, you need to take care of planting the plants, which are placed according to the conceived plan. If you need to place some of the flowers in the stream itself, you should make depressions between the stones, fill in soil there and sow seeds.
  6. And the final stage is the placement of decorative elements, which should also be taken care of in advance. Maybe in one place it will be a small bridge, in another - a flashlight or a figurine.

How to register?

In order to beautifully and originally complement the stream in the garden, you need to think carefully about all the design elements. You can build a bridge: a simple wooden one or with graceful railings. A bench for rest will be appropriate near the stream. Bright garden figurines will also decorate the space. It can be gnomes, forest animals, and birds. But not all at once - it is worth considering the filling of this small corner of nature.

Various jugs and vases, from which flowers "pour", look beautiful and original in the stream. This is very easy to do. It is enough to dig part of the structure into the ground and stones, then place a narrow strip of soil and plant seeds or seedlings of flowers.

NSIf you want to decorate the space in a Japanese style, you can place lanterns next to it. It will look especially beautiful in the evening.

Lighting is also a very important element of pond decoration and should be given attention.

Examples in landscape design

Before getting to work and stocking up on materials, you need to have an idea of how it all should look in reality. Therefore, it will be very useful to consider ready-made examples.

  • A stone, slightly meandering stream of medium width looks organic among lush greenery. And the picture is complemented by small shrubs and low trees. There is nothing difficult in the implementation of such a picture. And you can always supplement it, since this is the simplest option. There is room for imagination.
  • A very small stream of large stones may look like this. It is complemented by small bushes, and a bridge and small lanterns have become an interesting addition, and anyone can make such a bridge from boards. And again, it is possible to add other elements to the picture. For example, you can put an owl or a frog on the bridge.
  • In this case, the dry body of water has a more complex structure. There are large boulders, and just large stones, and smaller, and very small stones. It is located slightly sloped. And the stones themselves are not arranged chaotically, but in such a way that there is a feeling of moving streams of water. Complement the composition of the plant. There is nothing superfluous in this composition.
  • A stream can look stylish and original using an old vase. The main elements are still stones of different sizes. No clutter and unnecessary details, but it looks very cute and even pacifying.
  • A stream flowing smoothly into a flower bed is also an interesting option. Moreover, there are different flower arrangements on the flowerbed, which makes it light and original.
  • This option is also interesting - with green spaces around the edges. Several large stones as spots look good among small stones. The restrained color scheme is conducive to rest and relaxation.
  • An interesting option will also be when there is another stream in the stone stream - from plants. The feeling of movement is present in stones and flowers.
All options are good and interesting in their own way, but you should always remember that you can contribute even to ready-made examples - you just have to dream a little and understand what you like best and in what atmosphere it will be more comfortable to exist.
