A private country house with an adjoining territory needs a proper organization of the yard. Landscaping is a complex and painstaking process. To create a truly picturesque exterior, you will have to spend no less effort and money than building and decorating the house itself. But you will be satisfied, as the result will delight you for many years, and the comfort of the personal plot will allow you to spend a lot of time outdoors in an atmosphere of bliss and bliss.

Peculiarities

To create a landscape design around your country house, you can invite a professional who will draw up a project for you himself, and after approval will start working directly. This option is suitable for wealthy and busy people who do not like to work on the land, relying on the opinion of professionals in design and style.

But to organize your own piece of paradise with your own hands means to immerse yourself in the creative process and create a truly unique design of the territory that fully meets personal requirements, using a minimum of funds.

Nowadays, all landscape tricks can be learned online for free.

There is another way to save money: you can purchase very young plants. In this case, it should be borne in mind that it will take time for them to grow and get stronger. You will not see the final result immediately, but only after a few years, but such an investment in the future will keep your wallet in the present.

When buying young plants, keep in mind that as they grow, they will need more and more space. Before purchasing such a seedling, study the information on how an adult plant looks like, what parameters it achieves. When planting, leave enough room for each young seedling to mature.

Competent landscape design not only creates a cozy place for spending time in nature, but helps to solve many issues of imperfection of the relief and size of the site. So, a certain order of planting flowers, shrubs and trees will help to visually enlarge the yard area, and the harmonious organization of the entrance zone is able to declare your hospitality and prepare guests for meeting in the house itself.

Climate and relief

Landscaping largely depends on the characteristics of the area. Climate and relief dictate their own rules, and if you can still do something about the differences in ground level, then the weather always remains unconvinced.

Be sure to study the flora of the strip in which the house is located. Plants that grow naturally in your climate are best suited to tolerate winter frosts or very hot summers and high humidity. Specialists-breeders are constantly working to develop new varieties of plants that winter better and at the same time are resistant to heat.

Some shrubs or flowers need to be closed for the winter in order for them to survive, for example, roses, which often freeze out and are afraid of low temperatures, or thuja, which "burns" in early spring until the root system thaws. The bright spring sun destroys the crown, so it is closed in the fall.

The "unsuccessful" relief of the site can complicate the task of creating the perfect design, but it will definitely add uniqueness.For a beginner, a flat area without large differences in height is best suited. If desired, the level can be leveled, but a voluminous garden can become the highlight of your site.

It is easy to beat a small hill and organize an alpine slide on it, the depression is suitable for an artificial reservoir - a pond with decorative fish and water lilies.

Difficult terrain will help determine the zoning of the backyard area, outline a place for a gazebo, sun loungers, a swing, a secluded bench, where anyone can read a book or indulge in dreams.

In addition, the descents and ascents can be played up with beautiful staircases, which will add originality to the local area. Also, for an inclined territory, you can think of a system of communicating reservoirs, between which a stream will flow, and even small waterfalls will organize an uneven relief.

Many firms providing landscape design services specifically develop projects for the vertical layout of the site, artificially create a relief area according to the general style of the site and the facade of the house. For example, a chalet-style house needs to mimic an alpine highland.

Often, difficult terrain can cause stagnant water in the spring during the period of active snow melting and rainy autumn. Because of this, the roots of plants planted in lowlands can rot, and to avoid this, consider a drainage system for removing water.

Tips and tricks for the drainage of the site will be told by the landscape designer A. Korovin in the next video.

Site planning

Before you start buying your favorite flower seeds and plants and erect small architectural forms, draw a plan that you will adhere to. A small drawing will help you understand how many trees, shrubs and flowers are needed, where is the best place to place the recreation area, how and where it is best to lay decorative paths to create the perfect landscape design. In the process of direct work, it is better to correct minor points than to redo everything later.

If you have a small area (about 6 acres) at your disposal, be sure to consider the size of buildings that are usually found in suburban areas.

The following are considered mandatory:

  • House for living;
  • Garage or parking space;
  • Utility room (barn);
  • Pergola-style gazebo or solarium;
  • Tracks;
  • Lighting elements;
  • Green spaces;
  • Decor elements;
  • Garden area;
  • Garden area.

If the site is larger, then the project may also include:

  • Children's playground;
  • Bath;
  • Swimming pool or artificial decorative pond;
  • Greenhouse.

Only after all the necessary buildings are printed on paper, it is worth taking a closer look at the design of the plan for planting green spaces. In order to be able to see the plan of your site in 3D mode, use a special computer program for landscape design.

The library of such resources contains all kinds of plants, which the creators of the program have divided into groups by species and habitat.

Special attention should be paid to projects designed to decorate territories of several hectares. Often, such spaces already have a beautiful and well-established natural landscape, which can include a natural reservoir and part of the forest. It can be supplemented by the creation of a large orchard, shady linden alleys, several recreation areas with gazebos. But the adjoining territory of the mansion or a small courtyard of the villa should be decorated with smaller plants and flower beds.

Zone division options

Correct zoning of the backyard area allows you to solve many functional problems, as well as create a cozy atmosphere.

There are several main areas that should be visually delimited from each other:

  • Entrance or front door;
  • Parking area;
  • Household;
  • Garden area;
  • Orchard and fruit;
  • For active and quiet rest;
  • For children's games.

Sometimes the correct location of the house itself on the site solves part of the problem. In this case, for example, the backyard, which is hidden from view, can be set aside for a utility and vegetable garden area. If this is not possible, then there is an equally cardinal way to fence off - to build fences.

A wide gazebo with one blank wall can be an alternative way to hide utility rooms. A hedge of densely planted shrubs or needles can become not only a beautiful decorative element, but also a way of zoning. The creation of podiums and open terraces for pergolas and solariums, as well as recreation areas, can also be attributed to the methods of dividing the territory into zones.

Relief can help solve the problem with zoning. The construction of retaining walls on a multi-level area and their decoration, for example, with stone, looks very stylish and southern.

Even at the planning stage of the site, try to create a project in which the recreation area is at the maximum distance from the parking lot, then the sound of a running engine and exhaust gases cannot interfere with your peace.

In the late evening, proper lighting will hide the economic and vegetable garden area from the eyes, bringing to the fore the silence, harmony and relaxation atmosphere of the recreation area.

Track decoration

Garden paths are a kind of guiding guidebooks that combine elements of landscape design, small and large architectural forms into a common harmonious ensemble. These lines allow you to set the direction of movement for you and your guests, indicate the advantages and hide the disadvantages of the site.

In the design of the paths, the general style of landscape design and the facade of the house is of no small importance.

Already at the design stage, it is worth thinking about the shape, width, material of the tracks. Decide whether these will be paths - with straight or rounded corners, decorative, winding, or intended solely for utilitarian functions.

Decorative options require more imagination and costs for implementation, so such paths can only be used in a garden and park area and a recreation area. And rude utilitarian - in the transport-access area, between outbuildings for functional purposes.

The width of the decorative paths can vary from half a meter to one and a half meters. These parameters are individual for each individual site and depend on its size. The material for creating paths can be stone, concrete, tiles, bricks, pebbles, rubble.

Consider some factors when choosing the material and design of the track:

  • Soil soil;
  • Possible seasonal ground movements;
  • Ground water level;
  • What is the expected load on the path (walking or parking area);
  • Intensity of exploitation.

When directly erecting a decorative path, take care of drainage. So that melt or rainwater flows into the ground, the surface of the track is made slightly inclined. It can be gable or single pitched.

The road garden and park bed is divided according to the type of coverage into hard and soft. The first type includes brick, concrete, paving slabs, natural stone, the second - pebbles, gravel, crushed stone. There are combined types of tracks.

To arrange a parking area, a geogrid is increasingly being used.

The advantage of this method:

  • Clean and well maintained look;
  • Robust construction withstands any weight;
  • Even the parking area is landscaped.

Garden paths can be made by yourself. The choice of materials is very large, and the technology is not the most complicated. Often the paths are made of wood. Such a coating is not as durable as, for example, concrete, but it looks very stylish. A variety of fantasy elements liven up the site very much. The patterns laid out from small stones add fabulousness and originality.

It is important that the tracks are safe.A surface that is too smooth after rain can become very slippery and cause injury. Choose ribbed materials.

If the site has elevation differences due to the terrain, it is better to include elements with steps or entire stairs.

Landscaping

Landscaping is a complex multitasking issue. It is necessary to properly prepare the soil of the site for green spaces and a lawn, study the types of plants that grow in your strip, take into account the flowering period of flowers, know how shrubs and trees look in a mature state in order to competently work out a composition that will look harmonious in a few years and even for decades, to know the basic combinations for a possible neighborhood in order to properly water and fertilize the soil.

But the result will surely please you, because a beautifully designed plot is the pride of any amateur gardener.

First of all, it is worth deciding on the style - regular or natural. Regular assumes a symmetrical arrangement of flower beds and ornamental shrubs along the centerline. Often in the center there is a round flowerbed with the most beautiful plants.

The paths from the central alley have the correct rectilinear or radial shape. Flower beds are arranged along the paths in the form of flower beds, the paths themselves can be framed by a low, neatly trimmed hedge made of boxwood or thujas with a spherical crown, planted at the same distance from each other.

Plants for these beds are selected noble. In spring, these are tulips, daffodils, crocuses and hyacinths, which are selected in color and size so that the flowerbed does not look variegated, but harmoniously uniform. In summer, primroses are replaced by hybrid tea or floribunda roses. Roses are complemented by large-flowered lilies. Lilies are classified into Asiatic, tubular, and la-hybrids. In central Russia, la hybrids winter better.

Lilies and roses have a huge variety of colors, they are selected according to harmonious shades and placed in flower beds of geometric shapes. The garden is filled with the aromas of these flowers. Lilies of the valley or hosts are planted in shady ridges, and border roses are planted in the sun.

Arranging a flower bed of continuous flowering, such a set of perennials is selected, the flowering of which replaces each other throughout the season. In spring - bulbous, in summer - roses, lilies, clematis, hydrangeas, in autumn - Belgian aster, physalis, chrysanthemum.

Spruce, thuja, cypresses create vertical accents with their correct shape. In the center of the flower beds or at the end of the alley, it will be interesting to look at a fountain or decorative waterfall, which will add a romantic mood to the entire site.

Small architectural forms and sculptures look very harmonious in the green foliage, and benches, placed in beautiful places, will allow you to relax and enjoy a beautiful view.

In the design of a natural type, plants are arranged in an arbitrary order, here symmetry is deliberately avoided. The paths are irregular in shape and can vary in material and width to suit the landscape. This design of the site is successfully combined with the uneven relief. This is the case when a disadvantage can be turned into a virtue. In the lowland, it is worth arranging a reservoir, on the hillocks arrange picturesque compositions of conifers, bright flowers, ornamental-leaved shrubs.

The compositions are made up of a vertical accent - spruce, pine, thuja, cypress, which are located in the background, medium-sized plants with beautiful foliage or flowers are planted in the second row. It can be tunberg barberries with yellow, burgundy, light green foliage, which is shaded by silvery needles. Floribunda or ground cover roses make up the near row, their flowering is supported by wormwood, catnip, sage.

These simple perennials with their tenderness frame dense brushes of pink flowers.A creeping juniper will become a picturesque frame for such a flower bed. He is also planted along the paths. The paws go out onto the path itself, hiding the edge, thus creating a picturesque forest path.

You can decorate the local area with rockery. A place is chosen on a hill or on a flat area. Drainage is done, boulders are laid out, earth is poured between them, and perennial plants are planted in these "pockets". It can be a composition in the form of a dwarf coniferous forest, junipers, miniature pines, thuja, spruce. Rockery, planted with ground cover perennials, looks impressive and is unpretentious in care. Rejuvenated, thyme, yaskolka, saxifrage and ornamental cereals will be appropriate in the compositions.

Rockery will look organic when decorating a courtyard in the Japanese style, here the whole emphasis is on the beauty of the stone, so the choice of boulders must be approached especially carefully. Plants in this case are used coniferous, dwarf forms, sedges and cereals.

Thin multi-colored spikelets of cereals add sophistication and awe to many plant ensembles. Their height can be chosen from 50 cm to 1.5 meters. Cereals are variable in color - gray, burgundy, golden colors dilute the green foliage of garden plants. Cereals have one unpleasant feature - they are very aggressive towards other plants, so you should think carefully about whether this type of grass is needed on the site.

You will have to keep an eye on this flower bed in order to prevent the spread of the invader.

For true aesthetes, there is an alpine slide. Its creation is a very laborious process that requires the study of special literature, but the result will bring untold satisfaction and pride. The natural stone is laid out in steps on top of each other, without the formation of pockets, the cracks are filled with sandy soil and fine gravel, an analogy of a natural rock formation is created. In the intervals between the stones, drought-resistant miniature plants are rooted, their growth is extremely small, the flowers are inconspicuous and small, but in general, a magnificent view is obtained.

Shrubs such as barberry with a sweet caramel aroma and many small flowers will become vertical accents and decoration of the site during flowering. The spreading shape of the barberry creates a natural round head with a diameter of about 3 meters.

Black elderberry has a graceful shape and does not require a haircut, in the spring it is covered with clusters of flowers with an unusual smell, in the fall with clusters of berries, which combine medicinal properties with toxic substances.

Rowan and chokeberry or black chokeberry are similar to it - one with clusters of scarlet color, the other, after the lush bloom in spring, is covered by black berries full of vitamins by autumn. These slender shrubs grow up to 4 meters in height and do not require pruning.

Chubushnik or Russian jasmine is best placed in the background. After the most fragrant flowering, it turns into a nondescript bush with a height of 2-3 meters, eventually acquires a "shaggy" appearance and requires formation.

The beautiful lilac is good both as a separate tree and in a hedge, but here you need to remove the growth in a timely manner. In garden breeding forms, the shoots are not as aggressive as in natural species.

Kalina, in addition to wonderful flowering, has a good habitus of the bush, does not require formation, in autumn the foliage acquires a purple palette, in winter the flaming bunches effectively contrast with the whiteness of the snow. It is good both as a tapeworm and as a hedge.

The middle plan will be decorated with thujas, junipers and cypresses. Tui is better to choose the western group, they are the most winter-hardy and have a large species diversity. Medium-high yellow Aurea, Yellow Ribbon, majestic Columna and Holmstrup, spherical Danica, Hoseri will find their place in garden compositions or as tapeworms.

Tui Brabant and Smaragd are indispensable for hedges.

They lend themselves well to haircuts, which allows you to create green shapes from them for decorating the garden. Cypresses and junipers have a picturesque natural shape that gives natural outlines to garden ensembles. Outside, they can be decorated with flowers.

Vertical landscaping complements the visual diversity of the garden flora. These are various climbing vines on supports. The palm tree among beautifully flowering lianas belongs to clematis. They are placed on arches or metal mesh supports, often in a duet with roses or hosts, which cover the nondescript lower part of the vine.

Honeysuckle honeysuckle has a strong sweet aroma and beautiful pink flowers similar to oriental chrysanthemum.

Girlish grapes are indispensable for decorating unsightly buildings. A living wall can be grown from Schisandra chinensis and actinidia and get a harvest of useful vitamin berries.

Paths and flower beds, trees and vines are good against a lush green background, which gives a dense lawn. It needs to be watered regularly, cut at least once every two weeks, it is undesirable to play outdoor games on it so that scuffs do not appear. Such bald spots occur after winter, then the lawn needs repair.

In the garden, it is enough to tin the territory, that is, regularly cut the green vegetation until a green carpet is formed, which can be done in a couple of months and 4 haircuts. Such a grass carpet is durable, you can lie on it, hold competitions, it does not require watering.

You can arrange a Moorish lawn. The territory is dug up, weeds are removed, the whole area is sown with beautifully flowering grasses. Such a lawn has a significant drawback - it is short-lived, after flowering it loses its decorative qualities.

Water bodies

Do not neglect the creation of a reservoir or stream on your homestead. Manufacturers offer a lot of ready-made options for arranging a small pool or pond.

The reservoir can be very small - less than 1 meter in diameter, up to large ponds, in which you can fish and swim, and sunbathe on the shore or sit by the fire in the evening. The shore of such a pond is lined with grasses, sedges, hosts, irises, daylilies. Such a reservoir will harmoniously look next to a house built of wooden logs or with stone facades. From the wooden deck you can admire the glare of the water in the sun and drink tea.

The high-tech architecture of the house is suitable for a swimming pool, tiled with sun loungers and awnings to match the decoration of the house.

The baroque mansion will be decorated with a classic pool with a fountain, surrounded by a flower garden with benches around.

For small yards, you can arrange a small pond with moisture-loving plants around it or frame it around the edges with a stone. The pond itself is decorated with real or artificial water lilies.

Fans of murmuring water near the pond should install a mechanism to create a stream that will drain into the reservoir. It will not be difficult to decorate it beautifully with pebbles, stones and plants. Nearby you need to arrange a place to relax: a gazebo, barbecue, bench or garden chairs with a table.

Decorative elements bring life to the landscape and enhance aesthetics. Pompous ceremonial areas are decorated with large sculptures of romantic or biblical themes, large vases with conifers or roses.

The democratic design of the local area allows the installation of one or two modern architectural forms in harmony with the plant environment.

Lighting

The organization of lighting is thought out at the planning stage, since electrical cables must be reliably isolated from mechanical damage.

The courtyard, paths, outbuildings and recreation areas are subject to mandatory lighting. Lanterns on a personal plot should not be made high, so as not to create a feeling of urban development, it is advisable to maintain a height of up to 1 meter.This arrangement of lanterns gives a soft relaxing light, the level of the lawn with flowers and the path itself are well illuminated. Flower gardens and ponds can have similar lighting to create spectacular night compositions.

Lighting does not have to be electric; for a small area, solar-powered lanterns are sufficient.

Combination with buildings

For a correct perception of the landscape as a whole, decorative plant compositions should be in harmony with the house and outbuildings. This area includes the entrance to the house, porch, path from the gate. Great importance is attached to the design of the front area. This is the business card of the infield.

The most beautiful and noble plants are planted in this part of the yard. The flower beds are decorated in the style of the main house. Compositions with thuja and roses decorate the classic ceremonial areas. Bright flowerbeds of irises, Belgian asters, oak sage, garden chamomile are planted along the paths of rural-style houses.

The porch and veranda are decorated with beautifully blooming vines: clematis, climbing roses, petunias in hanging pots.

For the winter garden, tropical plants are selected that are in harmony with the nearby thujas and cypresses in ceramic pots. Placing cacti and palms in tubs in front of the entrance to the winter garden helps to add southern exoticism in the summer. For the winter, potted plants are removed indoors.

Styles

Landscaping styles determine the selection of plants. The style, in turn, is determined by the architecture of the buildings and corresponds to the character of the owners.

  • English or landscape style speaks for itself and simulates the natural beauty of nature. Elements of this design include a pond with willow on the bank and benches, paths made of sand, wood or stone cuts. Plants are planted in groups: daffodils, tulips, mallow, roses.
  • Classic style, where everything is subordinated to symmetry, is decorated with fountains, sculptures, fir trees, trimmed thujas. From flowers it is better to choose begonias, roses, salvias, phloxes. Requires a spacious area.
  • Scandinavian style suitable for landscaping most modern courtyards of a private house. In this style, you can decorate both a small courtyard and a large personal plot. Paved paths, ponds decorated with stone and hosts, vertical accents of conifers are located in spacious meadows, fences are decorated with hedges.
  • Rustic style, or country - the most popular and easy-to-use design option for the local area. You can decorate the site with various items of peasant life, wattle fence, fragrant beds of mint, thyme, sage are welcome. Ornamental shrubs of temperate latitudes are widely used: viburnum, irga, elderberry, mountain ash, lilac, chubushnik.
  • Modern in landscape design - this is the maximum replacement of plants with small architectural forms, a clear highlight of building structures.
  • Japanese landscape Is the choice of philosophers. There is a lot of natural beautiful stone, sparse vegetation of unusual shapes, bonsai, decoration with feng shui attributes. It can be placed in a small area.
  • Today, the most popular style of yard decoration has become minimalism... There are not many plants, but each of them has special features to create a living picture, framed by wooden structural elements.

A clean surface of a geometric reservoir is appropriate, the right paths turning into terraces.

Projects

Having installed the appropriate program on your home computer, you can independently choose the appropriate layout of the site.

A project for the improvement of the local area in a regular style.

The natural style of the site design smooths out the rigidity of the front zone.

Vertical accents of birch and willow adorn the composition with rustic elements.
