A gazebo canopy is a very popular type of garden structures; in popularity it can compete with a terrace. There are different types of such structures, each of which has its own advantages. After reading this article, you will learn about the features of the choice of design, the intricacies of installation work.

Basic types

To choose a gazebo canopy, you need to take into account your own wishes, financial capabilities and features of a particular suburban area. Such structures are stationary and portable. Portable gazebos are usually collapsible. Most often, portable structures are lightweight, their frame is made of plastic or metal. Directly the canopy is made of synthetic material, polyethylene or high-strength fabric.

Stationary gazebos are most often characterized by significant weight, so they are not moved. In this regard, such structures are less convenient, but they have a longer service life, more reliably protect people from various external influences. Usually such constructions cannot be disassembled.

How to choose a seat?

The gazebo can be installed where it is very beautiful: for example, by a man-made or natural lake, decorated with flowers of a stone slide. To make the design look more aesthetic, you can plant flowering shrubs next to it, decorate it with climbing plants.

It is not worth setting up a structure in the lowlands. Such a cold place with high humidity will be bad for rest and relaxation.

Constructions

Gazebo canopies vary in design. Several options can be distinguished.

  • Semi-closed gazebos. The open opening of this structure can be closed with a dense material that is resistant to liquid. Another option is glazing.
  • Open constructions. You can make such a gazebo as comfortable and more closed as possible using a green hedge.

The roof can be inclined (gable or pitched), straight, round, arched. The canopies (sloped roofs) are especially easy to use. The rain will not bother people in the gazebo, since water always flows down the slope.

Important stages

You will need to do the following:

  • First, choose the location where you will be installing the gazebo. Then you will need to prepare the surface for installation.
  • Create a foundation, frame.
  • Make a roof.

You should choose only high-quality materials and tools for construction work. Otherwise, it is quite possible that the structure will not differ in durability.

Construction

You need to start construction work like this:

  • To install the supports, dig holes that will be at the same distance from each other. They should be quite deep: about one fourth of the height of the post. Place cushions of gravel and crushed stone there, tamp everything thoroughly.
  • Insert into the grooves of the support. Before that, they will need to be impregnated to protect the surfaces from mildew and mildew. Using the building level and plumb line, check if the supports are installed correctly.
  • Then you will need to make the foundation. Pour concrete into the holes and wait a few days.

Gable roof

The roof will need to be done as follows:

  • Using self-tapping screws and metal corners, connect the rafters (for convenience, do it on the ground). Cut out the gaps.
  • Pull the supports along the heads with a board. The rafters will need to be attached to the support racks. Connect them to each other.
  • Create a sheathing using an edged board. You will need to put a roof covering on it. The most sealed roof can be made using plastic washers for self-tapping screws.
  • You can pour a concrete screed on the floor, place gravel, put boards.

This will create a stationary canopy on the base of the supports. If you want to use this structure as a gazebo, you can create a side crate. Some people use similar structures as structures for cars. They are multifunctional and very resistant to various weather conditions.

Plastic structures

Today, many people prefer to create canopies-gazebos from PVC pipes made of plastic, metal-plastic, polypropylene. Such structures are distinguished by a long service life, lightness, and at the same time, problems with the implementation of installation work arise very rarely. You can make a sliding portable structure.

PVC pipe structures have certain disadvantages:

  • The frame of such structures is not very durable.
  • A rather unpleasant smell emanates from such gazebos, they are toxic.
  • PVC structures can deform due to exposure to sunlight.

Plastic is a material from which you can create a variety of shapes. You can easily construct structures of various shapes: polygonal, semicircular, rectangular. For the coating, you can use polycarbonate, a polymer that is distinguished by its density.

Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate has many benefits. The main advantages of this material:

  • Ease of processing. From it you can get products of various shapes, such material bends easily. It is well suited for creating complex, unusual designs. Such a structure will become a unique highlight of your summer cottage, its wonderful decoration.
  • Fire resistance.
  • Long service life, durability. Such products are resistant to corrosion (as opposed to metal ones). They do not need to be treated with products that protect surfaces from mold and mildew (unlike wood).
  • Relatively light weight.

Polycarbonate can only be used when the structure is stationary. This is a fairly expensive material, and it can easily get damaged if you take apart and carry the gazebo.

The frame can be metal, brick, wood. If you want the structure to be light and small, you do not need to make a heavy foundation. Just install regular metal pins into the ground.

It is not recommended to make a polycarbonate roof for the structure where the brazier will be located. In this case, it is worth choosing tiles, slate, corrugated board for the roof, and pipes or metal profiles for the frame. To remove the smoke, you will need to make a pipe. This element is mandatory in such structures. If you do not remove the smoke, you can get poisoned by carbon monoxide when cooking kebabs.

For a barbecue structure, it is recommended to make a strip foundation, it is quite complex. To prevent a fire, you should install structures with a stove rather far from a wooden bath or a cottage. Bushes and trees that are next to such a structure must be removed or transplanted to another location.

With barbecue

You need to build a gazebo with a barbecue in this order:

  • Create a strip foundation. To do this, dig a fairly deep trench around the perimeter (approximately 0.4 m).
  • Make a pillow: Put gravel on the bottom. Tamp it down, place the reinforcing mesh on the bottom.
  • Using the planks, make the formwork. Pour concrete. Wait until the foundation is completely dry: it usually takes about a month.
  • Use fire-resistant bricks to build a stove. Do this using a red clay based mortar.
  • If you want the structure to be presentable, cover the barbecue with cement mortar or facing bricks.

The grill oven should be built like this:

  • Create a pedestal for stove supplies and firewood.
  • Build a firebox, stove.
  • Create a pipe to regulate the draft.
  • Carry out decorative cladding.

For firewood

When installing the stove, you need to provide a woodpile where the firewood will be located. You can easily create a gazebo for firewood yourself. She will reliably protect them from precipitation. It is possible to create such a structure rather quickly and without significant expenditures. It is not at all necessary to make a rectangular gazebo: it can be non-standard, designer.

Metal frame and rectangular shape

Rectangular structures with a metal frame are different:

  • You can brick the floor or create a concrete base. This will prevent the wood from rotting.
  • Some people choose polycarbonate roofing. It is attached with rubber washers and bolts.
  • Metal supports created with a welding machine are poured with concrete. They are located quite deep in the ground (they are buried about 1.5 m).

Garden tents

Today, many people choose garden tents for use in summer cottages. Most often, pipes made of aluminum or plastic are used to create their frame. For the manufacture of the tent itself, a durable fabric material, most often synthetic, is used. These designs usually have soft, transparent windows. The door can be draped using a mosquito net. Such structures are portable, prefabricated. The garden tent should not be placed near a fire source.

The design, which is distinguished by its considerable size, can also be used to put the machine there. It is quite easy to assemble such structures: you only need to be guided by the recommendations that are indicated in the instructions.

Hammocks

A hammock is a very convenient device that allows you to effectively relax and recuperate. This is usually the name for a piece of mesh or fabric material that has a rectangular shape, which is located between the supports. Owners of summer cottages who want to relax in the shade usually hang a hammock between the trees. However, you can do without trees. You can create a gazebo canopy with a hammock yourself. Wherever such a structure is located, the sun's rays will not bother you.

First, decide where the structure will be located. Then dig into the ground with pillars made of metal or wood. It will be necessary to pour concrete into the holes. Hang the hammock using chains or sturdy, fairly thick ropes. A polycarbonate sheet or fabric material can be used as a canopy. Secure the canopy to the posts.

It should be borne in mind that today in many stores ready-made structures with a hammock are sold. A wide variety of designs, shapes and shades are available to consumers. Usually such constructions can be disassembled. When assembling the structure, you should take into account the recommendations from the manufacturer (first carefully read the instructions).

Such a structure can be placed anywhere without thinking about installing support pillars, because such hammocks are portable. Such structures have many advantages, but their cost is usually quite high. If you are still not sure that you are ready to give money for a hammock gazebo, try to build such a structure yourself. There is nothing difficult in this: you just need to be patient, persistent and select materials of high quality.
