Soft windows for gazebos and open terraces are deservedly popular with owners of country houses and summer cottages. The products are soft transparent PVC, polyester or polyurethane curtains that reliably protect open spaces during bad weather.

Peculiarities

Flexible windows are made of high quality dense polyethylene film, which is an excellent alternative to glass. The material has good frost-resistant properties, which makes it possible to use windows in the cold season. Sometimes opaque fabrics pre-impregnated with acrylic compound are used for soft glazing.

To increase the attractiveness of products, roller curtains are equipped with edging in various colors.

Soft windows are installed on openings of any shape and size. The products are used to protect verandas, open terraces and gazebos from wind and precipitation, and also as a material for preserving premises for the winter.

The polyvinyl chloride film from which the transparent curtains are made is highly resistant to direct exposure to ultraviolet rays and extreme temperatures. It does not lose its elasticity throughout the entire service life, which is determined by 7-10 years. This favorably distinguishes PVC film from other materials used to protect open spaces from atmospheric phenomena and insects. Transparent windows cost about one and a half thousand rubles per 1 sq. m of material. The amount may vary depending on the manufacturer, the quality of the fastening elements, as well as the presence of edging or photo printing.

The thickness of the material is 500 and 700 microns, the width of the roll is 140 cm, the edging is 5 cm. Windows with a width of more than 140 cm are made by thermal soldering of standard sheets, with a width of the formed seam equal to 3 cm. 600 ", which is presented in a wide range of colors, washes perfectly and looks aesthetically pleasing. Soft glazing of doorways is equipped with a zipper lock, the thickness of which does not exceed 1 cm.

Opaque canvases containing mylar fibers have greater strength and durability in comparison with transparent models. Combined options with a transparent top and an opaque bottom are very popular, most often used for door glazing.

Advantages

The high consumer demand for soft windows is due to the many undeniable advantages of the material:

  • Fast and easy installation... It will not be difficult to install the structure with your own hands, even for people who have no installation experience. Dismantling the canvases will also not cause difficulties. This is convenient for seasonal installation and in the case when the summer cottage is left unattended during the winter period and there is a risk of theft from the sites.
  • Comfortable cost... Soft windows are much cheaper than plastic structures, which is very beneficial for glazing summer cottages and verandas. This allows you to close numerous large openings with minimal financial losses.
  • Good light transmittance... Excellent transparency of the material, combined with the absence of window frames, provides an excellent view of the yard, plot and garden.

PVC film transmits up to 90% of sunlight, does not cloud or crack.

  • Environmental Safety. The material has all the necessary certificates of conformity, guaranteeing the complete harmlessness of the film to human health. Some models are highly resistant to fire, which significantly increases the safe use of the room.
  • Hygiene and easy care... The protective film is easy to clean and is not prone to mold and mildew. If the operating conditions are observed and the windows are kept clean, the products can last up to 10-15 years.
  • Resistant to aggressive environmental conditions. Soft windows are not afraid of sunlight and atmospheric precipitation, and polyurethane and PVC models can be used in the temperature range from -40 to +80 degrees. This provides ample opportunities for their application in different climatic zones.
  • Good heat-saving properties material allow you to heat the premises with electric fireplaces and heaters without the risk of heat loss. This makes it possible to use the premises for up to 8 months a year.
  • Safe operation. Such windows cannot be broken, which eliminates the risk of injury in case of accidental damage to the glazing. This allows the use of foil windows for glazing open verandas and garden pavilions intended for children's playrooms. • Materials are not prone to accumulation of static electricity, which is why not electrified and does not attract hairs, lint and dust.

Installation features

You can purchase and install soft windows using the services of companies, or on your own. To do this, you need to buy special mounts and roll material. There are three ways to strengthen windows in openings:

  • Swivel brackets. This method is very simple and common. Often used when installing window structures in summer cottages.

The essence of the method consists in installing special brackets around the circular perimeter, equipped with pivoting elements that are inserted into the eyelets and rotated, pulling and fixing the canvas.

  • Straps. The method consists in putting the eyelets on the staples and fixing the canvas using straps that are inserted into the bracket.
  • Sliding structure... This system does not provide good tightness, but it is attractive in appearance. The absence of straps and metal swivel mechanisms allows the window to look stylish and aesthetically pleasing. This method is often used when glazing open areas of cafes, restaurants and pavilions. The canvas is fixed in metal guides and slides in the desired direction using rollers.

Installation should begin by fixing the upper part of the canvas to the carrier of the span. This must be done with a construction stapler. The distance between the fasteners should be 30 cm.

Then the fastening of brackets for hinges or twist locks to the wall surface is carried out. A belt strap is fixed through each running meter, which will keep the canvas in a twisted state. Side fasteners should be 40 cm apart.

When installing soft windows on your own, it must be borne in mind that with a sharp cold snap, the size of the canvas changes, therefore, during summer installation, you should not pull the film too much, and vice versa, if the installation is carried out in winter, then the tension should be maximum.

    Care Tips

To keep soft windows clean, it is necessary to regularly wash the film with synthetic detergents and a sponge. For large areas of foil glazing, it is recommended to use a hose with a diffuser spray. The edging tape should be washed using soapy water and a medium-hard brush. It is necessary to wash the windows as they become dirty and dusty, and always after rain. It is not recommended to use a brush when washing the film - it is better to use a soft cloth, sponge or microfiber.

Soft windows do not need to be dismantled for the winter, but if for some reason the film is removed, then the canvas must be thoroughly washed with warm soapy water, then thoroughly rinsed with clean water and wiped dry. The products should be stored in a folded state, without bending or crushing the canvas.

It is recommended to store soft curtains in a dry, heated room without sudden temperature changes, otherwise metal eyelets in high humidity conditions may begin to rust and leave rusty marks on the film.

Soft PVC windows are in high demand among owners of summer cottages, cottages, country houses and restaurants. They perfectly protect the premises from precipitation, cold and wind.

Consumers note that the installation of such windows does not require large costs and eliminates the need for complex installation with the involvement of specialists. Attention is drawn to the good light transmission and fade resistance of printed products. The advantages include a wide range of colors of products, which allows you to choose a model for a facade or landscape design. The owners of open summer cafes note the ease of use of roll-up windows, which can be lowered in a matter of minutes when it starts to rain or when the wind intensifies, and can also be quickly removed when the weather is good.

The disadvantages of the products include the low tightness of sliding structures and the risk of damaging the canvases with sharp objects. This applies more to PVC and polyester products, since polyurethane canvases, due to their high elasticity, are not easy to damage. The presence of windage of the products is also noted in gusts of wind, but this is most likely the result of improper installation of windows and weak tension of the canvas.
