If you want to quickly build a beautiful gazebo, this is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. An original and simple method is the option where the gazebo is created from pallets. Today, they are often used by summer residents, since they act as an inexpensive building material that allows you to design a fence or small structures. Using pallets, you can significantly reduce the cost of building a gazebo, while getting an original design. It is possible to build a gazebo from this material in the shortest possible time, since for this the pallets only need to be connected according to the developed drawing.

What are pallets?

Pallets should be understood as a structure consisting of wooden planks and beams arranged in 2 tiers. These products are necessary in order to carry out the transportation of any materials / items. The wood used to create the pallets is processed, so the risk of fungus is extremely low.

Pallets are used in warehouses for a long period of time, so the wood has time to dry well. Many companies simply throw these products away because they no longer need them, but some companies sell them at low cost. You can buy them as firewood or as material for the construction of structures.

There are 4 types of pallets for summer cottages, which differ in size, but the most common type has a height of 15 centimeters. Of the products under consideration, you can easily lay the floor, since you only need to fill the existing gaps.

Where can you find pallets?

Finding the products in question in order to build a gazebo is not difficult. There are several ways.

  • We assemble pallets ourselves. To do this, you need to find a suitable material, then find out the dimensions of the products.
  • Purchase. Many companies sell these products that have been in use for a while.
  • We get it for free. To get pallets for free, you need to contact the companies that use them and inquire if they are recycling them. If the company just throws them away, then you can probably arrange to pick up the material, since even taking out the disposal pallets comes with a cost to the company.

We prepare the material

Before proceeding with the construction of the gazebo, it is necessary to determine its location and create a construction scheme. Having decided on the dimensions, you can calculate how many pallets you need to work.

Before you start building a gazebo, it is important to do the following:

  • carefully inspect all received pallets, repair and clean them, if necessary;
  • divide pallets into parts, if provided by the project;
  • it is recommended to sand the pallets before use, especially those parts that will be located inside the gazebo;
  • use an antiseptic impregnation that will protect the material from bacteria and fungus;
  • as soon as the applied impregnation is dry, the pallets can be painted in the required color.

If you ignore the above steps, then the erected gazebo will be of lower quality and will become unusable in the near future.

Pros and cons of pallets

Pallets are made of wood and therefore have the following characteristics:

  • environmentally friendly and safe for the human body;
  • wood products and structures have a beautiful appearance;
  • easy to process.

Pallets that are IPPC marked should not be used as they have been treated with chemicals. They cannot be used as building materials.

The use of pallets in the construction of a gazebo has many advantages. There are many advantages to this venture.

  • The gazebo has an open design, so the air circulates well. This has a beneficial effect on the atmosphere inside.
  • The cost of the material is relatively low. You can create pallets yourself from boards. It is also possible to purchase used material at a great price. At the same time, even new pallets do not have a high cost.
  • The erected building will be environmentally friendly and safe.

Despite the many advantages, there is one significant drawback. The wood has been processed, but it is not focused on durable use, so you will have to periodically cover the gazebo with special compounds in order to extend its service life.

DIY construction

Regardless of which type of pallets you choose, you will definitely be satisfied with the result. The gazebo will not only become a decoration of your site, but also turn into a cozy place. On summer evenings, you can relax here with family and friends, and during the day you can find shelter from the scorching sun. The most pleasant thing is that this gazebo is being built very quickly. It will take a maximum of 2 days for the whole job. Next, we will tell you how to properly build a gazebo, where to start.

Initially, you must create a plan that you will definitely follow during your work.

You need to do all of the following in a row:

  • we select building material;
  • imagine how the gazebo should look like;
  • we develop a drawing;
  • we build a gazebo;
  • we make the gazebo as comfortable as possible.

We determine the optimal place

First of all, you need to decide on the location of the gazebo. The selected area must be cleared of stones, and the tall grass must be mowed. If the site is uneven, then it must be leveled before starting construction.

This is especially important if the floor will be built directly over the ground. Experts do not recommend that you go this way, since such a construction will not be durable. It is best to create a base on which our gazebo will be located. When you have cleared the desired area, then using a peg and rope, mark what size your gazebo will be.

Project

Now is the time to turn to your imagination in order to design a future gazebo. This step requires your ingenuity. After all, a large number of elements can be made from pallets that will fill your gazebo with coziness and convenience. Pallets are ideal for creating tables or benches, but this must be included in your plan. It is better to make furniture for the gazebo before it is erected. When you have already decided what the design should be, you can proceed to further actions, namely, start developing the drawing.

Drawing

Do not worry about the fact that you are not an architect and do not have the necessary knowledge to create a correct and beautiful drawing. Ordinary graphic editors can help you in this situation. Your task is not to ideally depict the gazebo on paper, but to correctly implement the idea. It is necessary to develop a drawing of the gazebo, taking into account the structural sections. This will help you later when you start making the project a reality.

Foundation

At this stage, we are already directly starting to work on the site.Here you need to build the foundation for the future gazebo. Foundations are of various types. You can stop your choice on one of them, relying on the time that you plan to spend on the construction of the gazebo. If you need to cope quickly, then concrete blocks installed on the rammed earth appear to be the best option.

Laying brick pillars will take longer than the previous option, however, the most time consuming method is the pouring of concrete pillars. It is important to note that the latter method is the most reliable and durable. Keep in mind that if the soil is soft, then it needs a strip base, which will slightly extend the construction, because you will need to wait until the cement dries.

When the foundation has been laid, it is necessary to install a base from a bar around its perimeter. It is attached with screws. The bars are fastened to each other with a harness.

It is important that exceptionally high-quality boards are at the base, since they will be subjected to intense stress.

If you place a protective film under the base, then you can thus protect the foundation from moisture.

Creating the floor and walls

When you already have a solid foundation, then you can start installing the corner posts. They need to be installed not only in the corners, but also in the front, highlighting the entrance. Beams are connected from above by strapping. Make sure that the racks are exactly vertical, otherwise this will lead to the fact that the gazebo is askew.

After establishing and securing all the racks, you can proceed to the upper strapping. It is recommended to strengthen it with corners to reduce the risk of breaks. Then you can start laying the boards on the floor.

They must first be treated with a special anti-rotting agent. If this is not done, they can rot, and the gazebo sag.

If your project involves a medium strapping, then after creating the floor, you can proceed to this stage. If this item is not provided, then you can proceed to the construction of walls. They can be folded in 1 row or in several. Fasten with anchors or wood screws. In some cases, nails are used, but this is not a completely reliable method of fastening.

Roof

The roof should be done last. From what material you make it, you decide. You can opt for tiles, roofing felt or polycarbonate. Each of the materials presented has its own pros and cons.

The shingles have an attractive appearance, however, it will take a long time to install them. Roofing material is characterized by quick installation, but visually the roof looks very specific. Polycarbonate appears to be the average option. It fits relatively quickly and looks quite neat and attractive. In some cases, the pallets themselves are used for the roof, but this is not the best option. You can take them apart and use them to build the roof of the gazebo.

Finishing stage

After the gazebo has been erected, you can proceed to the most pleasant stage - we decorate and put the finishing touches. At this stage, you must do everything to make the gazebo look beautiful, serve for a long time and be comfortable. First of all, you need to treat the floor with a durability product, and then paint or varnish it.

Walls can also be painted or left in their original appearance. Remember that if you decide to change the color of the gazebo after it was built, you need to use either a wood stain or paint on wood. They allow you not only to get the desired color, but also emphasize the naturalness of the materials.

Regardless of how high-quality the selected wood was, the walls and floor must be covered with a protective varnish. This will protect them from various pests and maintain their original appearance for a long period of time.

You can decorate in various ways. For example, you can hang curtains on the windows, and place several vases with flowers inside. The benches should be covered with a soft cloth or supplemented with multi-colored pillows. A miniature table will be a good addition to the gazebo.

If you want to spend a lot of time here, including the evening, then the best solution would be to put electricity into the gazebo. The path is best decorated with stones or wood. If the decision is made on a wooden path, then the rest of the pallets can be used.

If you followed the instructions provided, then you have a quality summer gazebo where you can enjoy your free time!
