Nowadays, a rare vegetable garden can do without growing tomatoes. And the choice of varieties of this culture is truly great - today there are more than a thousand varieties of tomatoes. Among all the variety, the time-tested variety - Volgograd early ripening 323, rightfully enjoys special popularity.

Breeding history

The culture was bred by a group of Volgograd breeders on the basis of the Volgograd State Agrarian University.

In 1973, the variety was approved for use and entered into the State Register.

Description of the variety

Volgograd early ripening 323 belongs to universal varieties, suitable both for fresh consumption - for salads, sandwiches, stuffing to the table, and for canning, making juices, sauces. It is often grown commercially because it has a high marketability, excellent keeping quality and transportability.

The bushes are undersized, determinate, reaching a height of 35-45 cm, so they do not require a garter and installation of trellises. The only exception is the period of fruit ripening, when it becomes difficult for the brushes to withstand the abundance of ripening tomatoes.

The plant is characterized by strong branching and leafiness. Leaves are dark green, medium-sized, wrinkled. The root system is not too deep, it grows in breadth.

This variety grows successfully not only in greenhouses, but also in the open field.

The main qualities of the fruit

Ripe fruits are of medium size, painted in a bright orange-red color, they can be of the usual rounded or flat-round shape, but in both cases there is a slight ribbing.

Volgograd early ripening 323 is characterized by juicy and dense pulp (the amount of dry matter is 5.86%), covered with a smooth, thin skin. Fruit weight is 74 g. The number of fruits on the hand reaches 5 pieces.

Taste characteristics

The variety has a pronounced taste and deserves a high tasting assessment. That is why it is great for aromatic summer salads.

Ripening and fruiting

In terms of ripening, Volgograd early ripening 323 belongs to the early varieties. The technical ripeness of the fruits occurs 109 days after planting the seeds. Fruiting is amicable. Harvesting dates fall from mid-July to late August.

Fruits can be harvested as they ripen, or even without bringing them to technical ripeness, when they only acquire a brownish tint. Such specimens mature successfully in a bright place. But picking green tomatoes is not recommended - when ripening indoors, they will lose a significant part of their taste.

Yield

The variety is high-yielding - from one square meter of planting, with proper agricultural technology, you can get 4-5 kg. With industrial cultivation - 401-425 centners per hectare.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Sowing for seedlings is carried out from 20 to 30 March.

Landing on a permanent place is possible only after the danger of return frosts has passed. The timing depends on the region in which the tomato is grown. The approximate period is from 10 to 20 May.

Like other varieties of tomatoes, Volgograd early ripening 323 is grown by the seedling method. Prepare trays with nutritious moist soil mixture in advance. The seeds are laid out in a tray, deepening them by 1.5 cm.The distance between the grooves should not be less than 2 cm.

The grooves are lightly watered with water. If possible, you can put snow on top of the tray, which will gradually give moisture to the seeds. Then the tray is covered with glass or transparent film and removed to a warm place before the first shoots.

As soon as the first real leaves appear, the tomatoes must be dived. You need to plant it in separate containers, preferably those that can be cut when transplanted into the ground. The best option is peat cups.

Volgograd early ripening 323 is a thermophilic variety, therefore it is important to maintain a stable temperature. At night, it should not fall below 16 ° С, during the daytime - below 22-23 ° С heat. Drafts are completely excluded.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

Young bushes are planted according to the scheme 70 by 30-40 cm, planting density - 3-4 plants per 1 square meter.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

The beds for planting seedlings should be prepared in the fall - dig up the soil, add organic fertilizers - compost, a weak solution of manure.

As soon as the ground warms up in the spring and the frost has passed, you can start planting tomatoes. Capacious holes are dug, spilled with water. The seedling is carefully removed from the container along with a lump of earth and lowered into the hole, and then sprinkled with earth and lightly tamped.

Although this variety is unpretentious in care, in order to obtain a rich harvest, it is important to observe certain rules of agricultural technology and some nuances.

  • Formation. Since the variety Volgogradsky early ripening 323 is characterized by strong branching, 1-2 stems are left during formation.

  • Watering. Irrigation should be normalized, abundant, but infrequent. It is enough to water the culture once a week, I use 10 liters of settled water for 3-4 bushes. In hot weather, the frequency of watering is increased to 1 time in 5 days.

  • Top dressing. The plant needs regular fertilization. When collecting green mass, that is, in May-June, it is necessary to provide fertilizing with nitrogen-containing substances. During the period of ovary formation and fruiting, they are fed with potash and phosphorus compounds.

  • Weeding. Like any other variety, Volgograd early ripening 323 cannot grow successfully in unkempt beds. However, weeding must be careful so as not to damage the roots of tomatoes passing close to the surface. For the same reason, weeds should be removed, not allowing them to grow and intertwine with the roots of the tomato root system, otherwise, when pulled out, the thin roots of the main plant can be broken.

  • Mulching. Mulch made from organic material protects well against excessive moisture loss in heat, prevents weeds from germinating. Mowed grass, straw, sawdust or compost are used as raw materials.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

Variety Volgogradskiy early ripening 323 is resistant to the main diseases of tomatoes, such as verticillosis, fusarium wilt. However, in order to prevent late blight, it is recommended to spray the bushes with Fitosporin-M solution every 2 weeks.

Tomatoes can be prone to top rot. This disease is not fungal in nature. The reason is either an incorrect watering scheme or a calcium deficiency.

During attacks of insect pests (greenhouse whitefly, tomato mite, thrips, aphids) insecticides "Akarin", "Iskra-M", "Fitoverm" are used.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

This variety demonstrates high heat resistance, however, in the southern regions, in the midday heat, it will be useful to shade the bushes and mulch the soil.

The culture withstands temperature changes well.

Growing regions

Volgograd early ripening 323 zoned in the Central Black Earth and Lower Volga regions for growing in the open field. In more northern regions, the culture grows well in greenhouse conditions.

Review overview

The variety collects positive feedback from both amateur gardeners and professional farmers. Particularly distinguished are the excellent survival rate of seedlings, unpretentious care, unsurpassed taste of fruits. Good keeping quality and transportability are noted, which is important for commercial cultivation. Another plus that summer residents mention is high yield. From one greenhouse it is possible not only to feast on summer fruits, but also to make various preparations for the winter.
