With the minimum expenditure of time and effort, choosing the Big Mommy variety, you can get a stable and juicy harvest. Many Russian summer residents note the excellent taste of tomatoes. After the first trial of the harvest, the variety was approved by the majority of summer residents.

Description of the variety

Fruit crops are grown in open ground or in various types of greenhouses. The harvested crop is used to make juice, sauce, ketchup or tomato paste. Tomatoes are just as good in natural form. The type of culture growth is determinant.

Bushes can be identified by their sturdy stems. The branches are covered with a small amount of medium-sized foliage, the color is green. A low-growing plant grows up to 65-70 centimeters. The leaves do not interfere with the penetration of sunlight, so the fruits ripen in a comfortable environment. It also minimizes moisture stagnation.

After the seventh leaf, the first fruit cluster begins to grow. Further, they are located in the bush after every second leaf. Up to 6 tomatoes ripen on one brush at the same time. They firmly adhere to the stalks and do not fall off even after ripening.

The main qualities of the fruit

Light green unripe tomatoes gradually turn bright red. The sizes of the fruits are marked as large, and in weight they reach 200-250 grams. The shape is rounded, there is a slight ribbing. The inflorescences are simple. Because of their thin skin, tomatoes are recommended for salads and other cold dishes. The density of the pulp is medium. There are practically no seeds inside.

Taste characteristics

The taste of tomatoes is intense and pronounced. The sweetness is harmoniously combined with a barely noticeable sourness. After eating, a delicate aftertaste remains. Due to its high taste, this variety competes favorably with other vegetable crops.

Ripening and fruiting

The ripening dates of the crop are marked as medium early. After 85-95 days after sowing, the first tomatoes can be harvested. The exact timing depends a lot on the weather.

Yield

The yield is regular. From 7 to 9 kilograms of vegetables are harvested from one square meter.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

The Big Mom variety is planted for seedlings 2 months (from 50 to 60 days) before the date of planting the plants in a new place (open area or greenhouse). In regions with warm climates, the seed can be planted about a week later than normal.

It is recommended to steam the soil used for sprouting seedlings and sprinkle with hot water with the addition of manganese. The composition should have a rich color. So the seedlings will not be threatened by pests. And you can also buy a ready-made mixture that has been processed in advance.

The seed should also be soaked. To do this, use the drugs "Zircon" or "Epin". When germinating, the seeds are deepened into the ground by one and a half or 2 centimeters. After the container with future seedlings is transferred to the sun. It is important to observe the temperature regime (+25 degrees Celsius).

After 5-7 days, the first shoots should already appear. The temperature should now be lowered slightly so that the plants begin to stretch. The soil is irrigated regularly, preventing moisture stagnation. And you also need to ventilate containers with seedlings.

As soon as the ground at the permanent landing site has warmed up, and the risk of frost return has completely passed, the seedlings are transplanted into a greenhouse or into open ground. In order for young plants to adapt, in 2 weeks they begin to harden in the fresh air or are placed on a windowsill in an apartment. The first time the container is left for only 20 minutes, gradually increasing the time interval. Bushes are transplanted 25 centimeters high, with 5 or 6 full leaves.

The land on the site is also prepared in advance. Gardeners are advised to remove the topsoil and cover the area with a nutrient mixture. For its preparation, humus is mixed with turf soil in equal proportions. You can mix sawdust or ash. The land is cultivated with "Fitolavin", which will protect the plantation from various diseases and pests.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

When planting seedlings, a gap of 50-60 centimeters is left between the holes. This distance is necessary for the comfortable development of plants. The plant must be tied to the supports so that the bush is not damaged.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

Tomatoes are watered with warm water, about +20 degrees. At a lower air temperature, plants slow down their growth, and the shrubs perceive irrigation with a cold liquid as a change in weather conditions, namely: a cold snap. The soil is moistened once a week, only in the early morning. Water the bushes at the root. The soil should not be too wet, otherwise the risk of developing diseases increases. And also dampness negatively affects the root system. To maintain the desired moisture level, the soil is mulched.

Stepsons (shoots that grow from deciduous sinuses) are torn off about once every 14 days. For the formation of the plant, leave 1-2 lower stepsons. Tear off excess shoots carefully and one at a time so as not to harm the plant. After the fruit is set, the main leaves are removed. They take away nutrients that could have been used to form the crop.

When growing a fruit crop, fertilizers are indispensable. During planting, top dressing is added to the holes. The nutrient mixture dissolves gradually and saturates the plant with the required amount of microelements. A portion of fertilizer must be placed a few centimeters from the roots, filling out an earthen layer. Gardeners use Kemir and Fertik compounds.

Before flowering, 1-2 fertilizing based on nitrogen is applied. As soon as the buds bloom, nitrogen fertilization is stopped and potash fertilization is switched on. Foliar fertilization with an ash solution has shown excellent efficiency. With their help, tomatoes grow quickly, and the harvest is delicious. To prepare the solution, you need to dissolve one glass of wood ash in a liter of hot water. The liquid is infused for two days. The resulting concentrate is diluted and used for spraying plants.

In order for the roots to receive the necessary oxygen, the top layer of the soil is loosened. In the process, weeds are removed. Loosening should be done after each irrigation. In a hot time, the ground around the bushes is covered with mulch, this will prevent the soil from drying out. And also it prevents weeds from growing on the site. Summer residents use peat or straw.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

Subject to all the conditions of agricultural technology, nothing threatens tomatoes. They are highly resistant to tobacco mosaic virus and late blight. Bushes grown in greenhouse conditions are susceptible to attacks from the whitefly. These insects love dampness, so the room needs to be regularly ventilated.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

The Big Mommy variety is not afraid of extreme weather conditions. Even so, you can count on a harvest of delicious and juicy tomatoes.
