The tomato variety with the delicate name Verochka is so picky about care, resistant to typical diseases and pest attacks, it is harvestable that even beginners of vegetable growing willingly and fruitfully grow it.

Breeding history

Tomato Verochka (synonym Verochka F1) is a successful author's project of the breeder V. Blokin-Mechtalin. A product with high marketability and taste. Stably resistant to severe weather changes and diseases. It was received in 2017, and at the end of the test events, in 2019, it was entered in the State Register of the Russian Federation. The variety is intended for cultivation on open soils in the southern regions of the country, as well as in greenhouse conditions in areas with a temperate climate. The main goal during the creation of this early maturing plant was to develop tomatoes with excellent taste and a clear nightshade aroma. The author coped with the task completely.

Description of the variety

Verochka is a determinant plant of a non-standard type, requiring the formation of a bush, pinching and attachment to supports. Practice shows that it is more often grown in order to obtain early harvests in private gardens. Cultivating it on farmland does not give the desired economic effect. Its special quality is the high nutritional value of the fruit. The breeder managed to combine the excellent parameters of the variety and the excellent taste properties of the fruits.

Vera forms a low-growing bush, rarely exceeding a height of 100 cm. Usually it is 60-80 cm. It develops in the form of a bush with fleshy, slightly creeping shoots of light greenish shades. The ends of the stems end not with leaves, but with fruit clusters. The type of variety is generative, soon reaching its end point of growth. Vegetation is intensively generated on the ripening of fruits, and not on the growth of greenery. Moderately leafy bushes. Leaf blades are medium in size, saturated dark green shades, matte, with not intense pubescence. Bushes bloom with small bright yellow flowers of a funnel-shaped configuration. 5-7 ovaries are formed in each racemose inflorescence. The first brush is formed over 6-7 leaves, and then through a couple of leaf plates.

The variety received good characteristics for early maturing varieties, in particular, the quality of resistance to noticeable temperature fluctuations and humidity levels, cold resistance. And the hot season, coolness and dampness do not threaten a good level of its fruiting - the ovaries do not fall off and the formation of low-quality fruits does not occur. The plant gravitates towards moderate watering, increased by the time of intensive fruiting.

In terms of application, the fruits are universal, they are used both fresh and for salads and snacks. They make pasta and lecho from it. Of the advantages of the variety, we note:

  • high level of productivity;

  • rapid maturation;

  • versatility;

  • a good degree of resistance to weather inconsistencies;

  • reliable immune protection against viruses of fungal diseases;

  • attractive appearance of tomatoes and their symmetry;

  • long storage times and transportability;

  • excellent taste.

Minuses:

  • average fruit sizes;

  • the need for pinching and shaping bushes;

  • high cost of planting seeds.

We also note that the planting material is small, a significant part of it is represented by rudiments that do not preserve varietal parameters. Therefore, they are not used for propagation of the variety.

The main qualities of the fruit

The fruits are of medium size, reaching a weight of about 140 g. Flat-round configuration with some ribbing. The skin is glossy, outwardly dense due to the thick and fleshy walls of the fruit.

In the period of technical ripeness, the tomatoes are green or orange-brown. However, then they acquire rich red-orange tones. The finally ripened fruits are of scarlet color. There is no greenish speck in the region of the peduncle. The walls of the fruit are dense, forming up to 5 chambers with a small number of medium-sized seeds.

The product parameters are quite decent. Tomatoes can be stored for a long time without losing their presentation and taste. During long-term transportation, tomatoes do not crack and are completely preserved.

Vera is a thermophilic, drought-resistant culture, it can do without irrigation for up to 4-6 days, and when grown in open areas, its fruits are not prone to baking and deformation.

Taste characteristics

The taste of tomatoes is excellent, moderately sweet, with an unobtrusive refreshing sourness. On the tasting scale, Verochka received 4.8 points. Dessert fruits dominated by sugars are recommended for fresh consumption.

Ripening and fruiting

The beginning of the harvest occurs 75-90 days after the emergence of seedlings (in late June or early July, depending on the specific growth conditions and weather conditions). Long-term fruiting - about 1-1.5 months. The fruits ripen in waves. But in one brush they ripen together, which makes it possible to pick fruits in bunches.

Yield

The variety, one might say, is very early, and the yield reaches 18.2 kg / sq. m, about 5 kg per bush. The weight of fruits in the first cluster differs from the weight of fruits in the last cluster by about 20 g. Productivity in greenhouse conditions is higher due to the height of the stems. When bushes with a large number of shoots are formed, the fruits ripen with less weight.

To achieve the highest yield, you must:

  • select well-lit areas with light soils rich in organic matter for planting;

  • the culture should be fed in turn with organics and mineral fertilizers;

  • eliminate stepchildren and form bushes using props;

  • you should not give the fruits of opportunities to overripe on the branches, stimulating the ripening of new ones.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

The hybrid is grown mainly by the seedling method. Sowing for seedlings is carried out in the second decade of March. If the plan is to transplant into open soil, then the date is shifted to the end of March. In this case, soils are used, both purchased and prepared independently. For this purpose, mix one part at a time:

  • garden land;

  • peat;

  • humus;

  • sand.

Seeds are planted in containers with moistened soil, mulch, cover containers with glass. When shoots appear, they organize:

  • good illumination;

  • regular irrigation with cold water;

  • fertilizing with mineral fertilizers ("Zircon" or "Kornevin");

  • hardening before planting in the ground.

The variety is placed in greenhouse conditions in the first half of May, and in open ground in May-June. Before that, the place is dug up, compost is added. Humus, some wood ash and superphosphate are placed in the holes.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The planting density of the bushes is 4-5 plants per 1 m2. With this scheme, it is more convenient to look after them, and then harvest.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

During the growing season, the crop requires care:

  • abundant irrigation (1-2 times every 6-7 days);

  • feeding with organic matter before the ripening of tomatoes, and potash fertilizers - in the process of fruiting;

  • timely weeding, loosening and mulching;

  • regular elimination of stepchildren;

  • forming bushes into 2-3 stems.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The variety has a high degree of resistance to infections. He is not afraid of late blight, he is not sick with tomato mosaic, Alternaria, and any types of rot.

The main danger to the plant is the whitefly, for protection from which "Inta-Vir" is used.

It is extremely rare that a culture becomes a target for attacks by aphids, spider mites. However, bears sometimes appear in the root area of young bushes. Among the preventive measures are useful: cleaning the beds and greenhouses, airing them, treating the culture with antifungal compounds ("Fitosporin" or "Alirin-B").

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.
