Pepper is an unusual and unique in appearance tomato. Its pepper-like fruit even tastes like it. Therefore, growing such a tomato will be interesting for any gardener.

Breeding history

The indeterminate variety Pepper was obtained by crossing some other types of tomatoes. There are no exact names of them, but sources claim that the Slivka variety became the main one in the selection.

Vasilevsky, Korochkin and Dynnik worked on the development of Pepper-shaped. The selection took place at the Scientific and Production Corporation “NK. LTD ". Since 2001, the plant has been registered with the State Register of the Russian Federation. The recommended growing regions cover almost the entire territory of Russia.

Description of the variety

The plant has tall bushes, the average height of which is 180-200 centimeters. Abundant branching, but not too many leaves. The latter are distinguished by their large size and classic green shade.

There are such advantages of the variety:

  • good productivity;

  • spectacular appearance of fruits and their pleasant taste;

  • versatility of the use of berries;

  • excellent keeping quality;

  • no cracking of the peel;

  • the possibility of cultivation in a greenhouse and open field.

The cons will be as follows:

  • organization of garters, pinning and shaping;

  • difficulty in finding seeds;

  • seed prices.

The main qualities of the fruit

Pepper produces large to medium-sized fruits. The weight of the berries is 75-150 grams. Unripe tomatoes are light green, and near the stalk they have a dark spot. As the tomatoes grow, they turn red, the stain disappears. The berries are cylindrical in shape with a runner, the ribbing is at the middle level.

Simple inflorescences are laid according to the following scheme: the first is above the 9 or 11 leaf plate, followed by an interval of 3 leaves. Tomato clusters are heavy, contain 4-5 fruits.

Taste characteristics

The flesh of the plant is fleshy and dense. The taste will surprise even a picky summer resident: a little sweet, it still has a slight sourness. And also in the taste there are hints of bell pepper. The harvested fruits have a delicate tomato flavor.

Ripening and fruiting

Pepper belongs to the mid-season varieties. From the appearance of the first shoots to the harvest, 110-120 days pass. The plant bears fruit for a rather long time - from the second decade of July to the last days of October.

Yield

The variety is quite fruitful - in open soil from 1 sq. m collect 6-6.5 kg of berries. In greenhouses, this figure can increase up to 10 kg.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Plants for seedlings are usually planted in March. The timing is calculated so that by the time of planting, the age of the seedlings is 55-60 days. The earth must be taken light and loose, be sure to add wood ash and superphosphate to it. If the soil is made by hand, then it must be calcined in the oven.

The grown seedlings will need a pick, because otherwise, when transplanting into the ground, the plants will get stressed. Each sprout should have its own peat cup.When the seedlings reach the required age, they are transplanted into open ground or into a greenhouse. If this is open soil, then you should choose the time in early June, but they are planted in the greenhouse 14 days earlier.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

Fertilizers in the form of ash or superphosphate are also added to the garden or greenhouse soil. Planting soil in advance can also be fertilized with peat or humus, making it lighter and more nutritious. A square meter of soil should have no more than 4 holes, or even better, dig 3. Then the tomatoes will receive all the necessary nutrition without any problems. There are no specific recommendations for the planting scheme of this particular variety. Accordingly, it will have to be planted in the same way as other tall subspecies, keeping at least 50 cm between the bushes, and at least 60 cm between the rows.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and caring

The yield of the Pepper is directly dependent on watering. It is best to use spring or rain types of liquid for these purposes. The water should be at room temperature. Watering is recommended by the trench method. That is, a small groove is dug next to the bushes, and liquid is already poured into it. In normal weather, water is given once a week, and in drought - once every 3 days.

A month after planting, tomatoes can be fed with mullein or chicken droppings. This will be followed by mineral feeding. Fertilizers should be alternated. During flowering, wood ash is often given, and herbal infusions will not be superfluous. The period of fruit formation will require the introduction of phosphorus supplements.

Passionate Pepper is a mandatory procedure. The lateral processes must be cut off until they have grown more than 5 centimeters. Otherwise, the wound will heal for a long time. To make the bushes easier to endure the procedure, it is better to do pinching on a sunny, but not too hot day.

In addition to pinching, you will also have to remove the foliage located below. It does not give any benefit, but only provokes thickening. The variety will be formed in 1-2 stems. And also it needs to be tied up, due to the severity of the hands.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The breeders managed to bring out a variety that practically does not get sick. The only thing that can cause trouble is late blight. In a greenhouse, such a disease occurs due to excess humidity, and on the street - if there are prolonged rains. In the second case, the gardener is powerless, but in the first it will be quite easy to ventilate the greenhouse and monitor the humidity in order to avoid the appearance of an ailment. Preventive spraying with fungicides will prevent the appearance of other types of fungus.

They get rid of insects using folk methods or insecticides. The use of insecticides is appropriate before fruiting begins. However, it is worth noting that the pepper parasites rarely attack. Aphids can sometimes appear, but they are easy to drive away in the initial stages.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Review overview

Pepper has been receiving good reviews from vegetable growers for several years now. Summer residents especially like the unusual type of fruit, and their taste characteristics exceed all expectations. The variety grows well in any region, even cold ones. True, in this case, only greenhouses are suitable, as gardeners also mention.

In greenhouses, caring for plants is easy, as well as outdoors. With minimal agricultural technology, summer residents manage to avoid common tomato diseases. However, not everyone is happy with the price of seeds, as well as their low prevalence. It is not possible to prepare the seed on your own.
