Fans of growing different varieties of tomatoes, the Katya carpal hybrid will certainly be to their taste, since the species is not capricious, quickly adapts to the climate and soil characteristics, and also gives high yields.

Breeding history

Tomato Katya is a creation of domestic breeders. The hybrid type was developed 17 years ago by a group of scientists led by Alekseev. Included in the State Register in 2007, approved for use and zoned in the North Caucasus. Growing regions can be zones with any climate, since tomatoes grow well both in open soils and in greenhouse conditions.

Description of the variety

This is a medium-sized determinant shrub, reaching a height of 50-60 cm. In greenhouses, the plant grows up to 100-130 cm. The plant is characterized by weak branching. Moderate thickening, dark green leaves. The stems of the plant are powerful, the root system is strong, the inflorescences are of a simple type, without branching.

Despite the average height of the bushes, they need a garter to the supports. This is due to the incredible fragility of the branches breaking under the weight of the berries. One cluster can contain 7-8 fruits (ovaries). In addition, the bushes need to be formed (optimally 2-3 stems) and periodically pinned.

The main qualities of the fruit

The berry mass reaches 80-92 g. It is endowed with a flat-round shape with a perfectly smooth surface, uniform and beautiful color. Tomatoes grow, as a rule, of the same shape and size. In a state of full technical ripeness, the tomato has a bright red color, there is no dark spot at the stalk. Unripe berries are light green in color. The tomato skin is dense with a gloss, due to which the berries do not burst and perfectly tolerate transportation. Tomatoes are good to be eaten fresh, as well as processed into juices, sauces, and dressings.

Taste characteristics

Excellent taste is considered the advantage of the variety. They taste sweet, sugary, with a slightly sour taste. The flesh of the berries is dense and juicy with few seeds. The variety is famous for its incredible aroma, which is very rare for hybrids. 100 g of freshly squeezed juice contains about 5% dry matter and up to 2.5% sugar.

Ripening and fruiting

This hybrid species is a representative of the fast ripening class. From the moment the sprouts grow to the first ripe tomatoes, it takes from 75 to 80 days. The berries ripen together, which allows you to remove the largest amount of harvest in the first few harvests. The early maturity of the variety allows you to taste the first fruits already on June 20-30. The first tomatoes appear in greenhouses in mid-June. When fully ripe, the fruits do not crumble, since they are firmly attached to the legs.

Yield

The yield of the hybrid tomato species is high. With good care, up to 550 centners of tomatoes can be obtained from 1 hectare. Yield indicators in vegetable gardens and greenhouses are somewhat different. On a personal plot, about 3 kilograms of vegetables are collected from one bush during the fruiting period.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Seeds are sown 2 months before planting in a permanent place of growth. In the south, sowing is possible in the second half of February, and in the north - in March. Before planting, the seed is preliminarily disinfected using a solution of potassium permanganate or hydrogen peroxide, and then rinsing and soaking. As soon as thin white threads appear, the seeds are planted in the ground. The soil can be purchased or vegetable garden, also previously disinfected.

In order for seedlings to appear as early as possible, it is enough to provide a greenhouse effect using polyethylene or glass. With the appearance of 2-3 real leaves on the bush, a pick is necessarily carried out into separate cups. For healthy growth of seedlings, you will need a room where the temperature is kept at 16-18 degrees Celsius, good lighting, no drafts, feeding and watering. 10-14 days before planting, it is recommended to start hardening the seedlings (take them to fresh air), which will facilitate the adaptation of the plant to other conditions.

It is possible to plant bushes in open ground when the threat of winter frosts has passed, and the average daily air temperature is kept at the level of 12-14 degrees Celsius. The planting of bushes in greenhouses occurs a little earlier. A bush is considered ready for planting, the height of which reaches 15-20 cm.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

For a comfortable plant growth and ease of caring for it, it is necessary to plant seedlings according to a certain pattern. The optimal scheme is 70x30 cm. It is permissible to plant 3-4 plants per 1m2.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

The cultivation of the culture takes place in a seedling way. The site must be prepared. The soil is cleared of weeds, dug up so that the soil breathes well, is moistened and fed with fertilizers. According to the farmers, the area for growing tomatoes should be well lit by the sun, but in half-shaded areas the plant also grows well.

The nightshade culture requires complex care, including pinching, shaping 2-3 stems and tying to a support, watering only with settled water, loosening the soil, applying fertilizing (potash fertilizers), and pest control measures. Mulching can help fight weeds. When grown in greenhouses, regular ventilation is important. Experienced gardeners recommend light shaking to improve the pollination process.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The variety has high immunity. It perfectly resists late blight, fusarium wilting, tobacco mosaic virus, apical rot and Alternaria. Insecticidal treatment will help protect against the invasion of pests (aphids, thrips, Colorado potato beetle and spider mite).

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

The variety has excellent adaptability to different weather conditions, so the culture grows well, develops and gives high yields, regardless of climatic disasters and fluctuations. It is characteristic that even prolonged rains are not scary for Katya's tomatoes.

Growing regions

Due to its excellent resistance to unfavorable weather conditions, the Katya crop is grown in completely different regions of Russia, Moldova, and Ukraine.

Review overview

Katya tomatoes have long won the attention of gardeners and farmers, since they are characterized by numerous advantages. The variety is unpretentious in care, gives good yields, ripens quickly. Of the shortcomings of culture, it is worth highlighting the fragility of the branches, so a garter is needed, and many summer residents also note the high cost of seed.
