Tomato Giant has been used for a relatively long time. This plant deserves the utmost attention. And therefore, gardeners only benefit from its cultivation, if they thoroughly study such a culture.

Breeding history

The Gigant variety was approved for use in 2007. The main development was carried out by the breeder Jasinska Danuta.

Description of the variety

The giant is a determinate tomato. It is intended primarily for foil greenhouses. The height of the bush ranges from 0.6 to 0.8 m. Large foliage can have a simple green or dark green color. The plant is suitable for fresh use and for whole-fruit canning.

The main qualities of the fruit

Like many other tomatoes, the Giant is initially green in color, and then, as it ripens, turns red. The usual weight of the berry is 260 g; sometimes it can be up to 0.8 kg, and even a little more. A rounded tomato has rather weak ribs. It is formed on a simple inflorescence. The peduncle has a characteristic articulation.

Taste characteristics

The giant tastes sweet. They also note sourness that is attractive to many. The pulp is not too firm, but not too loose. The fruits are suitable for juice extraction.

Ripening and fruiting

This is one of the mid-season varieties. You can get a crop in 110-115 days after germination. According to other sources, it takes an average of 114-118 days to wait.

Yield

The experience of growing the Giant made it possible to establish that this variety gives 10 kg of fruit per 1 sq. m. The load on the branches is quite high. For fruiting shoots, it is imperative to use props. To guarantee a decent harvest, keep no more than 4-5 flowers per cluster.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

It is necessary to sow seeds 60-65 days before it is time to transplant into open ground. Sometimes you can use seedlings 55-60 days old. The first shoots in seedling containers appear in 3-5 days. But they definitely need additional time to develop and strengthen. Seedlings need a fertile soil mixture and a temperature of about 25 degrees.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

For 1 sq. m it is recommended to plant 2 bushes of Polish tomatoes. A denser planting is contraindicated, because the plants begin to interfere with each other.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

The official description states that pinching is not necessary for this culture. But you still have to tie the bush to the support.Tomato Giant is resistant to ultraviolet radiation and can tolerate it. The soil must be systematically loosened and saturated with a large amount of organic fertilizers. When planting, the soil should be well warmed up, even in greenhouses - if this rule is not observed, the growing season and fruiting period may shift.

It is best to transfer the seedlings to a greenhouse when the ground is warmed up to 10-12 degrees Celsius. It is advisable to avoid both very low and very high air temperatures. It is better to use twine to tie up the trellis. Bushes should be tied loosely, avoiding deformation of the stems. The rest of the care differs little from the treatment of the rest of the varieties.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

Although it is a variety and not a hybrid, it exhibits very good immunity. Fruit cracking is unlikely. However, it is still necessary to take special protective measures, to resort to preventive treatments.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

The plant tolerates temperature fluctuations. Excessive soil moisture (for example, due to heavy rainfall) is not too dangerous. However, gardeners should not be indifferent to such negative manifestations.

Growing regions

The variety is zoned for:

  • northwest of Russia;

  • The Far East;

  • West Siberian and East Siberian areas;

  • Astrakhan, Volgograd, Samara regions;

  • Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories;

  • Kursk, Voronezh, Tambov regions.
