For summer residents, gardeners and farmers growing various types of tomatoes, large-fruited tomato varieties have always been attractive, which grow and bear fruit perfectly in the beds and in film greenhouses. Among the many giant tomatoes, it is the mid-early variety Heavyweight of Russia that is in high demand.

Breeding history

An early variety Heavyweight of Russia was bred by a group of breeders of the agricultural firm "Siberian Garden" - O. V. Postnikova, A. A. Yabrov and V. N. Dederko in 2007. Since 2008, the tomato has been listed in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation, and is also allowed for use ... It is recommended to grow a crop in all climatic zones, be it the Urals, the Far East, the Northern, Central Black Earth, Volgo-Vyatka, North Caucasian or West Siberian regions. The variety gives good yields, growing both in greenhouses and in the garden.

Description of the variety

Tomato Heavyweight of Russia is a determinant low-growing plant, the height of which does not exceed 40-60 cm. Tomato bushes have an erect stem and fragile branches with a noticeable edge, medium thickening with green leaves, a strong root system through which nutrients enter, simple inflorescences. In each fruit cluster, from 3 to 5 berries are tied.

Growing a crop will require the formation of bushes in 2 stems, partial removal of stepchildren, thinning of the lower leaves, as well as the obligatory garter of both stems and branches, and the berries themselves, using props called "slingshots".

The purpose of tomatoes is universal, so they are eaten fresh, added to salads, canned, processed into dressings, mashed potatoes and drinks.

The main qualities of the fruit

Medium-early varietal tomato refers to large-fruited. Under favorable conditions, the fruit gains weight from 173-500 grams, but in greenhouse conditions the berries reach 700-800 g. The largest fruits are formed on the uppermost brushes. The shape of the giant tomato is flattened-heart-shaped with a noticeable ribbing surface. Ripe fruit acquires a rich raspberry color, and in a state of technical maturity, the tomato is green with a darkened spot at the base. The peel of the berries is firm, but not tough. The vegetable is characterized by resistance to cracking, long shelf life and transportability over short distances. Tomatoes are best transported during the technical ripening phase.

Taste characteristics

The tomato has excellent taste. The flesh of the berries is moderately dense, fleshy, quite juicy and with a small number of seeds. The taste is distinguished by sweetness with a small amount of acidity. When cut, there is a slight sugar content.

Ripening and fruiting

Tomatoes The heavyweight of Russia belongs to the early ripening class. From the mass germination of sprouts to ripe fruits on the branches, 95-100 days pass. Tomatoes spice up together. The phase of active fruiting begins in the second half of July.

Yield

The yield of the variety is good, the main thing is to follow the basic rules of agricultural technology. One bush can produce 2.8 kg of juicy tomatoes per season. According to experienced gardeners, up to 8-11 kg of berries can grow per 1 m2.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

The culture is planted in a seedling way. Seeds should be sown in pre-prepared soil, it can be garden or purchased. The seed is preliminarily disinfected using a weak solution of potassium permanganate, and the roots are treated with a growth stimulant. You can sow seeds in the second half of March - early April. For healthy growth of plants, special conditions will be required - room temperature 22-25 and abundant lighting - the sunny side and phytolamps for 10-12 hours a day. Germination occurs on 6-8 days. In the phase of appearance of 2-3 leaves, you can dive plants (seating in individual cups).

You can transplant seedlings to the garden bed at the age of 60-65 days. As a rule, tomatoes are planted in open ground in late May - early June, and in a greenhouse and hotbeds a few weeks earlier. After planting the bushes in the garden, they must be protected from sudden drops in temperature at night by covering them with agrofibre.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

Adherence to density and planting patterns are just as important as agronomic recommendations for growing nightshades. 5 bushes can be placed on 1 m2, no more, which will provide access to light and air for the plant. The correct scheme for planting is 30x50 cm.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

Tomato The heavyweight of Russia grows comfortably on highly fertile, loose, breathing, with neutral acidity, soils. For tomatoes to grow sweet, the area must be well lit by the sun.

For a good yield, complex care will be required, which consists of a chain of measures: irrigation with settled water, application of fertilizing, weed cleaning, weeding of beds, formation and tying of bushes, removal of stepchildren (optional), protection from viruses and pests. Timely stopping the ovaries will help to increase the mass of tomatoes, their number should not exceed 8-10. In addition, when grown in greenhouses, regular ventilation will be required.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

Tomatoes are characterized by high immunity, which ensures the plant's resistance to many diseases of nightshade crops. Due to their early maturity, tomatoes do not suffer from late blight. The only disease that tomatoes are prone to (due to their short stature) is root rot. Timely thinning of the lower leaves, as well as cleaning the soil from weeds, will help to avoid the disease.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

The manufacturer claims high stress resistance, which has been confirmed in practice. Due to the fact that the authors of the variety are Siberian scientists, the tomato is endowed with excellent cold resistance, tolerates temperature fluctuations, short droughts and even short shade well. The only thing that the Russian heavyweight does not like tomatoes is excessive heat (30-35 degrees), which leads to a decrease in the number of tomatoes on the branches.

Growing regions

The nightshade crop is zoned in all regions of Russia, including areas with risky farming and cool summers. In recent years, the geography of cultivation of this tomato species has expanded - the tomato has become popular in Moldova and Ukraine.

Review overview

Despite the fact that the variety is just over 10 years old, it has already become a favorite for many summer residents and farmers. This is due to early ripening, high resistance to many diseases, excellent taste and marketability, as well as the universal purpose of the fruit. Of the shortcomings, gardeners point only to moderate yields and heat intolerance.
