Many determinant varieties are chosen by gardeners because they do not need to be cared for so much. The Supermodel tomato is not only easy to care for, but has a high yield and good characteristics.

Breeding history

The Tomato Supermodel was launched in 2008 and immediately entered the State Register. The creators were breeders S. V. Ugarova, V. N. Dederko, O. V. Postnikova. It is stated to be intended for outdoor cultivation, but many growers are planting seedlings in indoor greenhouses as well. The culture has an incredible taste and an interesting fruit shape.

The variety can be grown in many regions of Russia. Good yields are found in the southern regions and the Central Black Earth Region.

Description of the variety

Bushes with limited vigor of growth, stretching only up to 70 cm. The variety belongs to the group of low-growing plants. The crown is compact, not spreading. Leaves are few, they are medium in size, dark green in color.

The stem is well developed, strong and strong. But, despite these characteristics, the bush must be tied up in order to avoid breaking under the weight of the fruit.

It is recommended to form a bush of 2-3 stems.

The inflorescence is simple, it is laid at the level of 4-5 leaves. From 3 to 5 fruits ripen on one bunch.

The variety has a number of good qualities. Among them, immunity, unpretentiousness in planting and care are most often mentioned. The fruits have a long storage time, which makes it possible to transport them over long distances.

Among the minuses, in addition to pinching and shaping, it is noted that the culture loves sunlight very much, does not tolerate excessive moisture.

The main qualities of the fruit

The fruits are oblong elongated or cylindrical. On average, the length of a vegetable is 12-15 cm.The berry weight ranges from 100 to 117 g.

The color of the peel is pink-red, in an unripe fruit it is green. The rind is smooth, without ribbing and very firm. It does not crack either on the bush or during processing.

The pulp is of medium density, juicy and not too watery. 2-3 seed chambers are formed inside. They contain 5% dry matter.

The fruits are suitable for fresh consumption, for salads, pickling and preservation. It can also be used to make a vegetable smoothie or puree.

Taste characteristics

Excellent taste with a pleasant sweet aftertaste are noted.

Ripening and fruiting

Tomato Supermodel belongs to medium early crops. The ripening period of fruits from the moment of formation of ovaries is equal to 100-120 days. Fruiting takes place from June to August.

Yield

The yield of the variety directly depends on the care of the crop and feeding. If all the rules are observed, 7.5-8 kg can be removed from 1 m2. With irregular care, watering and sunlight, the yield drops to 3-5 kg.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Seed preparation starts in March. Seedling boxes are harvested and seeds are processed. Especially additional processing is carried out for the material that was collected by hand. The seeds can be soaked in a potassium permanganate solution or roasted in the oven.

The earth, which is harvested on their own, is also ignited. All this is necessary in order to remove all harmful microorganisms.

Holes are formed in the boxes and seeds are planted. The seeding pattern should be 3x2 cm, where the first value is the depth.

Before covering the seeds with a film, the soil is spilled abundantly with warm water. The containers are stored in a dark, warm place. The temperature under the film should be 24-26 ° C. If the seeds hatch, the film is removed after a week.

It is necessary to dive seedlings in the presence of several strong leaves. New containers should be wide and with a volume of at least 500 ml.

The variety is very fond of sunlight, so you can install a UV lamp.

You need to take plants outside 10 days before planting in the ground. The age of the seedlings should not exceed 60 days, the height should not be more than 25-30 cm, and the number of leaves should be 6-8 pieces.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

Many gardeners choose the optimal planting scheme for themselves based on the area of the allotted area. On average, 3-4 plants are planted per 1 m2. The bushes are planted either in one row or in a checkerboard pattern so that the branches do not intertwine with each other.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and caring

For good yields, it is necessary to observe some agrotechnical points.

  • Watering is always done in the evening, once a week. Water is applied abundantly and at the very root. The soil should be moistened by 35-40 cm. In this case, the moisture will evaporate longer.

  • Top dressing is applied every two weeks. Organic and chemical fertilizers can be combined.

  • The culture must be tied to pegs.

  • Loosening and removing weeds will help prevent fungal diseases.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

Among fungal diseases, the variety is attacked by phomosis and dry spotting. Among the pests, the Colorado potato beetle or whitefly most often attacks.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.
