Many gardeners try to plant several varieties of the same crop in their gardens. The most popular among them are sweet vegetables. Tomato Sugarloaf has a self-explanatory name, as it has a wonderful sugar taste. At the same time, he has a number of other equally important characteristics.

Breeding history

Tomato Sugarloaf is a new variety, which was developed by the breeders Volkova V.V., Gubko V.N., Steinert T.V., Teplova N.S., Aliluev A.V., Avdeenko L.M., Alilueva L A., Romanov A.M., Chuikova Z.D.

The year of approval of the variety is 2021. But this does not mean that the culture is not tested, and nothing is known about it. Sugarloaf tomato is produced by two well-known agricultural firms: Uralsky Dachnik and Siberian Garden.

The crop belongs to indeterminate varieties and is intended for cultivation in greenhouses, according to the originators. The cultivation region includes almost the entire territory of Russia.

Description of the variety

The bushes are considered tall and have a length of 180-200 cm in greenhouses, in the open field the bush grows up to 150-170 cm. The trunk is powerful, well-developed and has unlimited growth force. That is why many gardeners recommend pinching the top of the stem at a height of 180-190 cm after all the ovaries are formed. Then all the nutrients will go to the formation of fruits, and not to the growth and release of stepsons.

The crown is semi-spreading and slightly branched. Therefore, it is advisable to tie them to a support immediately after planting the bushes in the ground. This will also help keep the branches from breaking under the weight of the vegetables.

Leaves of medium length, standard, green, matte. They have slight pubescence on both sides. During a lack of moisture, the surface of the sheet begins to bend in different directions like an accordion.

The root system is well developed, but it goes a little deeper into the ground. Most often, the roots grow laterally. This should be remembered when planting bushes, as well as when loosening the soil, so as not to injure the crop.

The manufacturer recommends leaving only 2 stems, main and side, when shaping a bush. The left stepchild should be below the first inflorescence. The rest of the stepsons are removed.

The inflorescence of the culture is simple, formed between 6-7 leaves. Subsequent - through one sheet. The buds are pale yellow, odorless. 6-8 brushes are formed on the main stem. One brush contains 4-5 fruits.

Among the positive aspects, gardeners note a good yield and fruit size. And also due to the strength of the peel, the variety has good keeping quality, and there is the possibility of transportation over long distances. The Sugarloaf tomato is immune to late blight, but the manufacturer recommends preventive spraying.

The main qualities of the fruit

The fruits are quite large. The shape is flat-round, with slight ribbing. Weight varies from 450 to 650 g. The largest ripen on the lower branches. The higher the vegetable is, the smaller it is. Since the variety is not a standard variety, such a yield directly depends on the care of the crop and the region.

The color of the tomatoes is red, the unripe fruits are green without spots at the stalk.The rind is dense, does not crack, with a slight gloss.

The pulp is juicy, fleshy and sugary, not watery. Inside, many small chambers with small seeds are formed.

The culture belongs to a universal type, therefore it is suitable for fresh consumption, for making salads, vegetable soups and smoothies, jams. But for whole-fruit canning or pickling - no. Only if you select the smallest fruits, or cut the vegetable.

Taste characteristics

The manufacturer notes that the Sugarloaf tomato has a very fine sugar-honey taste, without sourness. The fruit has a sweet aroma.

Ripening and fruiting

The culture belongs to the group of mid-season varieties. The fruits are formed and ripen in 110 days. Harvesting takes place in July-August and takes place in two stages.

Yield

The Sugarloaf variety is not considered a whimsical plant, but the yield directly depends on the amount of watering and feeding. With good care, 3-5 kg of tomatoes can be removed from one bush, 11.2 kg of tomatoes from 1 m2.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Seeds are sown at a strictly allotted time. If the crop will be grown in a heated greenhouse, then sowing seeds can be started from the end of February - early March. If outdoors, then in mid-March.

Before sowing, seeds are soaked in warm water, especially those that were harvested by hand. Then they can be treated with growth stimulants or aloe solution. Aloe disinfects the surface of the seed and prevents fungal diseases from developing.

Earth is poured into special containers. It should be loose and fertilized. The soil is spilled with water and holes are formed. One seed is placed in each hole. Everything is covered with another layer of earth and spilled with water. Transparent glass is placed on top of the box. Drawers are removed in a warm place. Under glass, the temperature should be 23-26 degrees. After the seeds germinate, the glass is removed, and the box itself is exposed on the windowsill.

From this point on, it is necessary to observe the culture so that there is enough light and moisture for it. This is necessary due to the fact that the variety is indeterminate and grows very quickly. If the bush stretches out sharply, then it has too much sun.

Picking into new containers is carried out in the presence of several large leaves. Potted soil can be mixed with wood ash. This is another top dressing.

It is worth watering seedlings no more than 1 time per week, provided that the soil is dry enough. Otherwise, a black leg may develop.

Transplantation into soil is carried out when the culture is 50-60 days. Seedlings are transferred to heated greenhouses in April, to any others in May.

For acclimatization, 5-10 days are enough before the dive.

The selected area is well dug up and spilled with hot water to keep the earth warm. Then pits are formed and pegs 150-180 cm high are driven in next to each other. A small amount of nitroammofoska is poured into the bottom of each hole for the growth of greenery.

It is not recommended to plant seedlings that are more than 60 days old. Such bushes will take root for a long time in a new place and very often get sick. Their stems will be thin and lethargic.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The manufacturer recommends planting 3-4 plants per 1 m2. The distance between them should be 70x40 cm. This is optimal for an indeterminate culture. It will be easy to cultivate and handle, and it will also be easier to tie and harvest.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

Caring for the variety does not differ from others, but the variety requires constancy and regularity, because the harvest depends on it. The following rules must be observed:

  • watering regime 1-2 times a week (provided that the previous layer is completely dry);

  • tie up bushes as they grow;

  • shaping a bush every week;

  • top dressing 3 times per season;

  • loosening and removing weeds.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.
