Growing tomatoes in unfavorable weather conditions, in a cool and short summer season is not very easy, because for this you need to select special types of tomatoes. These include the new tomato variety Sugar Garland, which grows well both in the garden and in the greenhouse.

Breeding history

Tomatoes Sugar Garland is a relatively new medium-early variety that many summer residents and farmers love, which was created by a group of Russian scientists from the Siberian Garden agricultural holding. The main task of the breeders was to breed tomatoes that grow in open and protected ground under unfavorable conditions, bringing stable and high yields. The culture has not yet been included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation, since variety trials on it have not yet ended.

Description of the variety

Varietal type of tomato Sugar garland is a tall plant of an indeterminate type that can grow up to 180 cm. In a greenhouse, bushes stretch up to 2 meters in height. The bushes have weak foliage with light green leaves, strong stems and flexible branches, a powerful root system that saturates plants with nutrients, as well as simple inflorescences. The first fruit cluster is laid over 4-5 leaves, where 5-6 berries are formed. The variety got its name thanks to the fruit clusters hanging down from the tomatoes.

When growing a plant, it is necessary to form a bush correctly - in 1-2 stems, tie the stems and trunk to strong supports, and also regularly remove new stepchildren, which appear very often. The purpose of the tomato is universal, so it is suitable for fresh salads, cooking, canning and processing into sauces and ketchups. In addition, tomatoes are ideal for seaming whole fruits in cans.

The main qualities of the fruit

The tomato belongs to the class of large-fruited species. Under favorable conditions, the tomato gains weight from 150 to 300 grams. The shape of the vegetable is heart-shaped with a pronounced pointed nose. The surface of the fruit is slightly ribbed at the base. Ripe tomato has a bright raspberry color, diluted with golden strokes. In an unripe form, the vegetable is colored light green. The tomato peel is thin, slightly tough, but not felt when eaten. The variety is characterized by long-term keeping quality and transportability without significant losses. In addition, tomatoes are resistant to cracking.

Taste characteristics

The taste of the vegetable is excellent. The flesh of the berries is fleshy, juicy, of medium density, with a small number of seeds and a pronounced sugar content. The taste traces sweetness with a slight sourness, complemented by a honey aroma. In the context, the flesh of the vegetable is intense pink. Without streaks and voids.

Ripening and fruiting

Tomatoes Sugar garland medium early. From the first shoots of seedlings to ripe berries on the bushes, 100-105 days pass. In the fruit cluster, tomatoes ripen at the same time, so it is very convenient to harvest. The fruiting period is extended, so tomatoes ripen on the bushes until autumn. When ripe, the tomatoes do not crumble. The phase of active fruiting begins from the first days of July.

Yield

Vegetable yield is stable and high. Subject to all agrotechnical recommendations, up to 5 kg of ripe berries can be removed from one bush per season.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

The tomato is grown by the seedling method. Sowing of seeds is carried out in March - 60-65 days before planting at the place of growth. The germination capacity of the seeds of this species is excellent, therefore, the sprouts will appear en masse after 5-7 days. Plants are planted in separate pots / cups at the stage when 2-3 leaves appear.

Transplanting seedlings to the greenhouse takes place in the last week of April, and to the garden bed - when the soil warms up well (second half of May).

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The density and arrangement of the bushes are individual for each tomato species. It is recommended to plant 3 tomato bushes per 1 m2, which will allow the plant to receive a sufficient amount of light and air. The correct scheme for planting is 40x60 cm.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

The variety is absolutely unpretentious to the soil, but reacts positively to comprehensive care throughout the entire growing and fruiting cycle. So, growing Sugar Garland tomatoes, it is necessary to irrigate with settled water under the root of the plant, loosen the soil, form and tie up bushes, remove stepchildren, apply fertilizer every 2 weeks, and also protect against the invasion of pests and viruses. Greenhouses are ventilated so that humidity can be controlled.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

Tomatoes have a high natural immunity. Tomato tolerates fusarium wilting and apical rot, but can be affected by late blight and anthracnose. Timely preventive spraying will help protect against diseases. Among insects, the Colorado potato beetle (in the open field) and the whitefly (in greenhouse conditions) are dangerous.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

The vegetable crop has a high resistance to sudden temperature changes, but the plant does not tolerate high temperatures (heat) and excessively dry air. That is why tomatoes are comfortable to grow and bear fruit in areas with risky farming and cool summers.
