Pink flamingo (Rozovyy flamingo) is an original variety of domestically selected tomatoes that has been successfully grown by Russian summer residents for more than 14 years. It is distinguished by its versatility of application, focused on growing in the open field, gives a fairly high yield of marketable fruits, up to 68-87%. The variety is suitable for commercial use and is highly regarded by farmers and private owners.

Description of the variety

Determinant Tomato Pink Flamingo is not very tall. The height of its stems is limited to 60 cm. The bushes themselves are compact, moderately leafy, with medium-sized green tops. Inflorescences are simple, yellow, fruit set is high.

The pink flamingo tomato has light brown stems, slightly drooping leaves without pronounced pubescence. The root system of a tomato is well developed, of a surface type. 5-6 fruits are formed in the brush.

The main qualities of the fruit

Tomatoes of the Pink Flamingo variety are of medium size, reaching a mass in the range of 75-110 g. The shape of the fruits is classic, round, ribbing is poorly expressed. Ripe tomatoes are colored pink, unripe ones are green, with a bright dark spot at the stalk. The skin is firm, not prone to cracking.

Taste characteristics

The fruits contain 2.6-3.7% sugar and 5.6-6.8% dry matter. Their taste is tomato, with a pleasant sweet flavor. The pulp is fleshy, not too dense. Tomatoes are used for canning whole, eaten fresh, added to salads. They are good as raw materials for making pasta or juice.

Ripening and fruiting

The Pink Flamingo variety is mid-season, fruit ripening takes 110-115 days. Fruiting is long, extended over time. Harvesting begins from 1 July to 15 August.

Yield

The harvest volumes of this tomato variety reach 234-349 centners / ha.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Based on the duration of the growing season, sowing seeds is performed on March 15-30. The seedlings are transferred to the ground by May 10-20 at the age of 55-60 days. If the daylight hours are not enough, it is necessary to ensure its artificial extension.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The optimal arrangement of plants is considered to be at a distance of 70 × 30-40 cm. There can be up to 2-3 bushes per 1 m2.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and caring

Pink flamingo tomatoes do not need a garter. But this variety is picky about the amount of daylight it receives. It needs planting in the sun, in moist and nutrient-rich soil. Plots after pumpkins, legumes, onions or cabbage are well suited for these purposes. In the fall, the soil is dug up with compost and humus; in the spring, reclamation is carried out again, but this time with superphosphate, potassium salt and urea.

Previously, before sowing, the seeds are disinfected. Individual boxes with drainage holes are prepared for seedlings. They are also treated with chemicals, mainly manganese, to prevent the possible transfer of fungal microflora.

The soil for sowing is selected light in composition, fertile. A mixture of turf and humus in equal proportions is suitable. It is not customary to deeply deepen the seeds, it is enough to pour a layer of soil 10-15 mm on top. Watering is carried out by spraying water through a spray bottle. Germination takes no more than a week, at this stage it is important to maintain the air temperature within 23-25 degrees Celsius.

Hardening of seedlings is carried out 14 days before the transfer of plants to a permanent place. First, tomato bushes are exposed for 25-30 minutes, then the duration of these sessions is gradually brought to 10-12 hours. Hardened plants can be transplanted by digging holes under them, the size corresponding to the diameter of the root system. After the transfer, the tomato bushes are watered and then left without moisture and top dressing for 7-10 days for adaptation.

Basic plant care prior to harvest is fairly straightforward. Periodically, 2-3 times during a month, it is necessary to carry out pinching, to pick off the lower leaves. This will reduce the volume of green mass. Since the cultivation is carried out in the open field, watering is organized individually based on the amount of precipitation. In dry periods, moisture is applied up to 2 times a week, 5 liters for each bush.

The hard crust formed on the surface of the soil must be broken. This can be done with a sharp hoe. This approach will provide plants with sufficient air access to the roots. In regions with hot summers, soil mulching is additionally carried out, and automated drip irrigation systems are being laid.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The originator made sure that this tomato variety was sufficiently resistant to diseases such as fusarium wilt and verticillosis. But plants still need attention.Since the tops of the Pink Flamingo variety are prone to thickening, it is imperative to adhere to the correct distance when planting in order to maintain optimal air exchange. It is important to stop nitrogen fertilization at the time of fruiting in order to reduce the risks of contracting fungal infections.

The destruction of insect pests - whiteflies, spider mites - can be carried out using folk remedies. A solution of laundry soap, infusion of garlic or tobacco leaf is considered an effective alternative to chemical insecticides.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

Tomatoes of this variety are demanding on growing conditions. They require maintaining the correct ratio of heat and moisture in order to achieve high yields. Lack of regular watering or prolonged periods without sun can negatively affect fruit setting.

Growing regions

Tomato Pink Flamingo zoned for growing outdoors in the North Caucasus region. In other climatic zones, greenhouse planting is recommended.

Review overview

Since this variety of tomatoes is focused primarily on planting in open ground, summer residents try to adhere to these recommendations even in the Urals or in the middle lane. As noted, tomatoes feel great without shelter, only sometimes requiring ripening at home. In this case, most vegetable growers do without garters and pinching. The process of ovary formation occurs amicably, the fruits gain juiciness well, they turn out to be fragrant.

Summer residents note that plants are not too susceptible to fungal infections. But with the onset of cold August nights, it is better to treat with fungicides, otherwise signs of late blight may appear. The rest of the deficiencies in the variety were not revealed. It demonstrates high germination, the bushes are strong and stocky, compact, with 4-6 fruits per branch. Many summer residents managed to make this tomato one of the main ones in their collection.
