The early bird is a variety of ultra-early tomatoes that form bushes according to the standard type. They are great for growing in private greenhouses, do not require complex maintenance, even a novice summer resident can easily cope with such a crop. Cultivation is not practiced outdoors.

Breeding history

Among the originators of the variety are the agricultural companies Agrofirma Poisk LLC and Center Ogorodnik LLC, known for the high quality of planting material. Tomatoes were obtained in the Ramensky district of the Moscow region. The variety has been in the State Register of the Russian Federation since 2017.

Description of the variety

Tomato bushes are compact, standard, reach a height of 30-40 cm.The leaves are short, green in color. Tomato Early bird is undersized, no garter or pinching is required. Inflorescences are formed according to the intermediate type.

This tomato has a strong and sturdy stem that can easily support the weight of the fruit. The foliage of the bushes is good, but the tops do not block the sunlight. Fruit clusters are well filled.

The main qualities of the fruit

Tomatoes of this variety are small, rounded, with slightly noticeable ribbing. The mass does not exceed 60-65 g. The skin of tomatoes is smooth, green - in unripe fruits, red - in ripe fruits. At the stage of coloration, a noticeable dark spot can be noted at the peduncle. The pulp is of medium density, rather juicy.

Taste characteristics

Tomatoes have a pleasant taste, sweet and sour, well suited for cutting into salads. Their compact size and high solids content make them suitable for whole fruit preservation.

Ripening and fruiting

Tomatoes ripen in 85-90 days. Harvesting takes place from July to August.

Yield

The variety is capable of producing fruits in the amount of 4.7-4.9 kg / sq. m.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Time for planting tomato seeds The early bird begins in the 1st and 2nd decade of March. They are transferred to the greenhouse, depending on the climatic characteristics of the region, in May-June.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The bushes in the greenhouse are placed at a distance of 40 × 60 cm from each other. The total amount per 1 m2 should not exceed 3-4 plants.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and caring

The Early Bird tomato is grown, like other determinant varieties, without props. Formation can be carried out in 1 stem, since the culture is standard. You need to start growing by soaking seed in potassium humate. After that, it is germinated, waiting for shoots, dive.Seedlings demonstrate a friendly rise in height, after the formation of a flower brush, it can be sent to the greenhouse. Before that, it is worthwhile to acclimatize on a balcony, veranda or terrace, so that a sharp change in temperature does not become severe stress for young bushes.

The variety grows well in fertile, nutritious soils. For low-growing tomatoes, it is important to ensure an optimal humidity regime. Greenhouses require regular ventilation, they must be disinfected inside before planting.

Watering should also be arranged in advance. Drip irrigation is more suitable for plants to avoid waterlogging. Top dressing is carried out before flowering with nitrogen fertilizers, after which mineral complexes are used. It is better to give preference to liquid products containing potassium and phosphorus.

When watering plants at the root, the possible formation of a dense crust on the soil surface is of great importance. To avoid such problems, it is necessary to loosen the soil after each wetting. You can use organic mulch, which simultaneously improves the composition of the soil, as well as allows you to remove excess moisture from the air.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

According to the data indicated by the originators, the Early Bird is a variety that is not susceptible to late blight. Harvesting ends before the infection begins to spread. This tomato is resistant to other popular diseases, does not require particularly difficult care or professional treatment. If other plants are affected, treatment with copper-containing preparations can be performed.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

The Early Bird variety is quite sensitive to various external influences. It should not be planted in open ground, in order to avoid the death of plants when atmospheric temperatures drop. In addition to weak frost resistance, one can note the sensitivity of plants to the number of sunny days - they need a lot of light.

Review overview

Summer residents highly appreciate the varietal qualities of the Early Bird tomato. It is mentioned that the seeds provide a high degree of germination, practically do not give rejects in the form of empty shells. The variety is called ideal for a short Ural or Siberian summer, often planted directly on the balcony or windowsill. Low bushes do quite well in such conditions.

Summer residents also appreciate the taste of fruits quite highly. The resulting tomatoes have a fleshy pulp, they are juicy, without hard veins in the pulp. Vegetable growers note that the intensity of fertilizing and watering affects the size of the fruits, the rate of their ripening. Careful care allows you to achieve excellent results in the cultivation process, while the bushes do not need to be pinned, wasting a lot of time.

Summer residents are advised to sow seeds 30-40 days before transferring the plants to the greenhouse. This is enough to make them stronger. The advantages of the variety include the full correspondence of the picture on the package to the tomatoes obtained. The disadvantages are poor suitability for transportation.
