Hybrid tomato Early giant bred by Russian breeders as a compromise solution for gardeners who do not want to compromise the size or early maturity of the fruit. He practically has no equal in many characteristics. The bushes successfully take root in open ground and in greenhouses, but do not tolerate infrequent or too frequent watering too well.

Description of the variety

The bushes are medium in size, grow up to 90-100 cm. The shoots are powerful, abundantly covered with leaves. Strong and vigorous plants have a developed root system.

The main qualities of the fruit

Ripe tomatoes have a firm pink skin and tender, fleshy flesh. The fruits are large, more than 500 g each, the record weight exceeds 1.5 kg. They are conical in shape, forming a smooth taper towards the nose. Tomatoes are prone to cracking if agricultural practices are violated.

Taste characteristics

The fruit has a pleasant taste, suitable for fresh consumption. It is considered quite tender and rich, suitable for processing into juices and sauces.

Ripening and fruiting

This is a mid-early hybrid. Fruits reach the stage of ripening in 100-110 days.

Yield

The tomato is high-yielding. In the greenhouse, about 15 kg / m2 are obtained from it. In the open field, these figures are slightly lower. The yield here reaches 12 kg / m2.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Seeds can be sown from the end of March to the 1st decade of April. Until the emergence of shoots, they are kept at an elevated temperature - about +25 degrees, then the conditions are changed. The rest of the time, the seedlings are grown in a normal room atmosphere. Young bushes that have reached the age of 45-55 days are transferred to the summer cottage. By this time, 2-3 stems are formed in them, on which a flower brush has time to appear.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

It is not recommended to thicken the plants. It is better to maintain the interval between the bushes within 70 × 60 cm. 2-3 tomatoes are placed per 1 m2.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

Plants are planted in open or closed ground, in well-lit areas. The hybrid is suitable for growing on an industrial scale, with mechanized harvesting. Needs planting on moderately fertile soils. It is important to select areas where the groundwater does not run too close.

The early giant is a hybrid not too tall, but it also needs pinching. They are cut off at intervals of 2-3 weeks.May require a garter at the fruiting stage. The best way to form is in 2 stems. It is worth taking care of regular watering of the bushes every 3 days, dividing the weekly portion of 6-7 liters for the entire period.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

A hybrid requires protection from a severe cold snap. It is affected by frost. Does not depend on other weather conditions. Forms ovaries successfully even with a small number of sunny days.

Review overview

According to summer residents, the Early Giant hybrid is really striking in its size. The fruits on the lower branches easily gain weight over 1 kg, the upper ones are more miniature, but still super-large. However, when the first enthusiasm passes, gardeners begin to experience difficulties in processing the resulting crop. Such large tomatoes are not suitable for whole-fruit canning, they have to be eaten fresh or put into juice. Not all summer residents are ready to eat even the most delicious fruits in such quantities.

The early giant is considered a hybrid with a fairly high resistance to insect or fungal attack. But summer residents note cases of plant damage, in addition, this tomato is very sensitive to feeding, without them the fruits are noticeably smaller. Heat surges are also not well tolerated by all bushes. Gardeners are advised to also take care of the garter in advance. Otherwise, the plants may simply bend to the ground under the weight of the ripening crop.
