The Dutch company Bejo Zaden B. V. has long been famous for their seed materials for growing garden crops. Traditionally, the crops from this company are intended for the territories of Central Europe. However, the climatic conditions of a number of Russian regions are similar to those in Europe. Therefore, the Polbig variety has shown itself quite successfully in our country, which is reliably confirmed by the practice of gardening.

Breeding history

Polbig is the fruit of the works of the Dutch breeding company Bejo Zaden B. V. Included in the State Register in 2005. The culture is produced for the purpose of use in private and farm households.

Description of the variety

Hybrid with ultra-early ripening (90-100 days), determinant. The first tomatoes ripen 60 days after transplanting seedlings into open soil. The bushes are stunted, powerful, compact, their vershoking occurs independently at the height of the main stem of 60-80 cm. In the future, the process of fruit formation develops with the help of lateral shoots. The leaves are medium to large in size, greenish or light greenish shades. The leafiness is medium. The inflorescences are of a simple type. The number of stems during formation is 2-3 pcs. (in closed soil).

The crop is recommended by the originator for open ground, but is also grown in greenhouses. It is characterized by the ability to set fruit at low temperatures. It was bred as a hybrid of the first generation, demonstrating a high level of resistance to fungal diseases. Bears fruits of excellent presentation.

Pros:

  • cold resistance;

  • early maturity;

  • compactness;

  • excellent taste for a hybrid;

  • fruits are high in vitamins;

  • abundant pulp;

  • uniformity of fruits in size;

  • in warm regions it is grown by direct sowing into the ground;

  • fruits of universal purpose, suitable for processing;

  • a high degree of resistance to a number of diseases.

Minuses:

  • can only be reproduced with purchased material;

  • at temperatures above + 32 ° C, the pollination process does not occur.

The yield of marketable fruits is up to 80%.

The main qualities of the fruit

The fruits of the culture ripen of a uniform size, weighing 105-135 g (according to the originator up to 200 g). In configuration, they are flat-rounded, with a high-density skin, not prone to cracking, medium-silvery.

Unripe fruits are light green in color, and ripe tomatoes are red. The peduncles have articulations, there is no green spot. Fruits are formed on clusters of 6-8 pcs. There are few seeds inside them, the pulp prevails. The taste is excellent, the fruits are juicy and fragrant, they can be transported very well. The degree of keeping quality is high; in favorable conditions it can be stored for up to 2 weeks. Used commercially.

Taste characteristics

The fruits are sweet, with an unobtrusive sourness, juicy and aromatic. They are used in the preparation of lecho, stews, adjika, fresh salads, they are also good in canned, pickled and salted form. They are rarely used for making pastes and juices.

Ripening and fruiting

Ripening of the culture occurs after three months after the appearance of the first shoots. Ripening period - 90-100 days. The fruit is usually harvested between July and October.

Yield

The yield level in open soils reaches 5.7 kg / m2. The yield is influenced by the area planted, the stability of the addition of microelements.Fewer fruits can be set in the clusters if heat is established during pollination.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out from the end of March to the beginning of April. The culture begins to be planted in the ground in May.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The standard landing pattern is 40 x 50 cm.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and caring

In the middle and northern latitudes, it is recommended to cultivate the culture in warm and slightly raised beds, insuring against the occurrence of unsatisfactory climatic manifestations with a film. In order to harvest an early harvest, the hybrid is grown through seedlings. It is also possible to plant seeds directly into the ground. The hybrid is characterized as a culture that is unpretentious and easy to care for, but responsive to systematic feeding.

The seedlings should be kept indoors or in greenhouses. The culture should not outgrow at this time, and therefore sowing begins 40-45 days before planting in permanent places - the bushes will more likely adapt to new conditions.

To germinate seeds, you need a fertile, loose and structured homogeneous soil. It is poured into containers, and 2-3 days before sowing, it is disinfected with "Fitosporin".

Before planting, the soil is irrigated and lightly tamped. The sowing holes are prepared with a depth of no more than 0.5 cm, the seeds are placed with a distance of 2 cm. Then they are sprinkled on top with a thin layer of soil and lightly tamped.

Until the emergence of seedlings, the seedlings are kept at a temperature in the range of + 25 ... 28 ° С. After that, the temperature is lowered to + 18 ° C, which favors the formation of strong roots. The degree of illumination for the appeared seedlings is immediately increased by means of illumination with special lamps.

For irrigation of seedlings, it is recommended to use melted snow or rainwater heated to + 25 ° C. Seedlings with 2-3 leaves dive.

For planting in open soil, it is moistened, loosened, deoxidizing compounds are added. 10 g of superphosphate are added to the wells.

In open soil, as in greenhouses, it is recommended to cover the soil with dark flaps of non-woven material or film before planting. This helps to create the right microclimate, and the fruits on the lower hands remain uncontaminated.

The flaps are pulled, holes are cut out for planting bushes. The mulching cover is sprinkled with soil at the ends, which will prevent the development of weeds.

Bushes need to be tied up as they develop. The main stem is attached with a loop to the stakes or fixed with a cord on the trellis. In order to avoid breakages, fruiting shoots also need supports.

Irrigate the culture infrequently. It is best to use drip irrigation for cultivation, with which a variety of nutrient formulations can be supplied. Mineral supplements are especially needed for the hybrid during the setting and coloring of the fruit. Partial pinning of culture is also carried out.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The plant is resistant to a number of diseases - verticillium, fusarium, late blight. Since the fruits of the variety appear early, the bushes do not fall into the period of peak development of phytophthora. For the implementation of preventive measures against other diseases, the treatment of plants with fungicides is used. Infinito fungicide is well suited to counteract the development of cladosporia.

In order to prevent tomatoes from being affected by top rot, it is important to maintain consistency in irrigation, to make a sufficient addition of calcium. Phosphorus and potassium additives increase the level of crop resistance to top rot of non-infectious origin. In the course of cultivation, fresh manure is not used, which stimulates the development of the disease.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

The culture is resistant to extreme weather conditions - cold-resistant.
