The variety has received well-deserved recognition from Russian gardeners. The tomato is high-yielding, large-fruited, mid-season. Tomatoes are beautiful in appearance, pleasant and unusual in taste. They are used in salads, in the production of juices, suitable for diet food and children's menus, preservation.

Other names are Orange Russian 117, Dawson's Russian Oxheart, Orange Russia 117.

Breeding history

The variety was obtained by the agronomist Jeff Dawson in the United States in the mid-90s. XX century, a new variety was developed with a combination of Russian 117 and Georgia Streak varieties.

Description of the variety

A tall and sprawling bush reaches a height of 180-200 cm, the stem is powerful, but it must be tied to a trellis. Differs in insignificant foliage, leaves are sharp and carved, medium-sized, rich green.

The type of growth is indeterminate; under favorable conditions, plants can reach 2.5 meters. Suitable for open ground and greenhouses. It is recommended to pinch the top in the second or third decade of August. Needs pinching, garter, usually formed into 2-3 stems. Sometimes the culture is left to grow in one stem, then the ripening time may be reduced. On the brush, 4-6 large fruits are formed, on the bush there are about 4-5 brushes. It is a light-loving and thermophilic variety.

The main qualities of the fruit

Tomatoes are very beautiful in appearance, the shape varies from flat-rounded on the initial racemes to cordate in subsequent ones. In the upper part of the fruit, an orange tint prevails, in the middle there are pink strokes, the pointed tip at the bottom is crimson, the variety is characterized as bicolor.

The tomatoes are large, weighing 200-500 g, on average 280 g. The skin is dense, the flesh is sugary, fleshy and juicy, orange in color with red stripes, the chambers for the seeds are narrow, the seeds themselves are about 6 pieces per tomato.

Tomatoes are transported slightly unripe. They lie for about 40 days at a temperature of +2 degrees with the preservation of the presentation.

Taste characteristics

The taste is sweet with a touch of tropical fruits, with a delicate fruity-tomato aroma.

Ripening and fruiting

It belongs to the mid-ripening group in terms of ripening, from the moment of germination of seeds to picking tomatoes, it takes from 110 to 120 days. Differs in a long fruiting period - until late autumn.

Yield

With proper care, up to 3 kg are harvested from the bush in open beds, and up to 4.5 kg in the greenhouse.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Seeds are planted 55 days before planting in the garden, around mid-March. To protect the growth from the disease "black leg", the soil is preliminarily shed with a hot dark pink solution of potassium permanganate. After the soil has cooled, the seeds are placed on its surface and sprinkled with dry sand half a centimeter.

Cover with glass or polyethylene, leave at a temperature of 25 degrees. After 5 days, seedlings usually appear. After the appearance of 1-3 true leaves, they are transplanted into separate pots with a volume of 0.5 liters. The middle root of the seedlings is pinched at the same time. Seedlings need enhanced lighting.

When planting on a site, superphosphate and AVA dressing are added to the hole. The seedlings should be well buried.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

Plant more closely than other tall varieties. Special grooves are pulled out with a depth of 20 cm. About 6 seedlings can be placed on 1 square meter.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

The culture does not need special care, but to get a good harvest, it is necessary to regularly water, weed, loosen and feed. It is recommended to use nitrogenous mineral fertilizers at the initial stages of the growing season. During the season, you can feed 2-3 times with special fertilizers for tomatoes.

Bushes must be hilled, the soil in which they grow must always be moist. To retain moisture, mulch with hay or cut grass. Plants must be tied up. After the appearance of the first inflorescences, all stepchildren are removed except 2 located below the first fertile brush - this will enhance the growth of the upper shoots. During the fruiting period, it is recommended to pinch the tops.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The variety is very attractive to aphids, to protect against it, the leaves are showered with ash and sprayed with "Fitosporin". From aphids and whiteflies, treatment with an infusion of bitter herbs mixed with soapy water also helps.

The culture shows good resistance to late blight.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Growing regions

Suitable for growing in central Russia and in the south. It can also be grown in greenhouses in more northern regions - in Siberia and the Urals.

Review overview

For gardeners, tomato has become one of their favorite varieties, they really like the color and unusual peach flavor. The harvest is good, the tomatoes are large, but fresh in taste, other gardeners note. Many people notice that the Orange Russian 117 does not cause any particular problems at the summer cottage, but is sensitive to the lack of fertilizing and watering.
