Among the variety of tomatoes, there are varieties with an amazing color and shape of the fruit. Another achievement of breeders is the so-called peach tomatoes with velvety skin. This variety includes the variety Shaggy bumblebee of Siberian selection.

Breeding history

The originator and patent holder of the variety, the "Seeds of Altai" agricultural company, entered the market in 1995. This company from Barnaul today has more than 3,000 of its own seed developments in its assortment. The shaggy bumblebee is a variety of amateur selection, its authors are Yu.V. Fotev, MA Kotelnikova, SN Kondakov. The approval for use was obtained in 2010.

Description of the variety

The shaggy bumblebee is a medium early, frost-resistant universal variety with standard bushes of determinant growth. The bushes are very beautiful outwardly, low, compact, without excessively spreading shoots. Strong stem and dark green leaves with a bluish tinge have hairiness. A distinctive feature is the pubescent surface of small and neat plum-shaped fruits, bright red at the stage of full ripeness.

The main qualities of the fruit

The Shaggy Bumblebee Tomato was named so because of the exotic appearance provided by the villi that densely cover not only the foliage and stem, but also the tomatoes themselves. Cylindrical, dense fruits, as they ripen, change color from light green (with a dark "crown" at the base) to rich orange-scarlet. Velvety, like a peach, thin, but firm and dense skin is not prone to cracking. The pulp is very fleshy, of medium juiciness, the number of seed chambers is very small (3-4), and the structure of the pulp has practically no voids.

These tomatoes are small in size: the mass ranges from 100 to 140 g, the average weight is about 135 g. The size of a ripe tomato is 8-12 cm in length.

Taste characteristics

The shaggy bumblebee has excellent tasting scores, and the application will be almost universal. The ripe fruit has a high sugar content with subtle spicy-fruity notes and a slight sourness. Hot and sunny summers will give a sweeter harvest, and with a predominance of cloudy, cold and rainy days, a sour taste may appear more actively.

The density, shape and size of tomatoes make this variety ideal for canning whole fruits. At the same time, Shaggy Bumblebee can be used fresh as a salad vegetable, processed into sauces and ketchup. Only for juice production, this variety will not be the most suitable choice.

Ripening and fruiting

The variety is characterized by medium early fruiting. Tomatoes ripen together, evenly and with the whole brush. The crop can be harvested from July to September.

Yield

For a variety with undersized bushes (35-40 cm), the yield of the Shaggy Bumblebee is quite good: from 5 to 7 kg / m². In a greenhouse and a greenhouse, this figure can reach 9 kg / m². One bush bears an average of about 2 kg of fruit.

On one brush, about 5-7 even, as if calibrated, tomatoes ripen. The output is almost 100% first-class products. The variety has good keeping quality. Transporting the crop also goes smoothly.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

From the first shoots to harvest, 95-105 days pass. Depending on the region, at the beginning or end of March, seeds treated for better germination are placed in a special fertile soil. Seedlings dive when 2 leaves appear. In individual containers, seedlings are fed, hardened and watered regularly.

The seedlings are transferred to the site when there is no longer a threat of frost. Seedlings take root well and grow quickly.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The Shaggy Bumblebee bushes have a dense crown and look like fluffy balls. Up to five seedlings can be placed on a 1 m² plot. In a region with cloudy and humid summer, it is better to stop at 3-4 bushes: thickening and moisture can provoke a fungus disease.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

Agricultural technology of this variety does not require much effort and is available even to an inexperienced gardener. The bush forms short and few lateral shoots and does not require pinching and shaping. Tomato brushes do not need a garter.

Caring for the plantation will consist in watering with settled water under the roots of plants, in loosening and mulching the soil, in preventive treatments against infections and pests.

An important point in the care of the Shaggy Bumblebee is feeding. This variety is picky about them. During planting, it is necessary to apply fertilizers with nitrogen, and the appearance of ovaries will be stimulated by a complex phosphorus-potassium fertilizing.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The shaggy bumblebee resists most diseases well, but can be affected by late blight, which is dangerous for all nightshades. Regular treatment of seedlings and planted bushes (up to the formation of ovaries) with boric acid, ash solution or special preparations ("Fitosporin", etc.) will help to avoid this problem.

Spraying with folk remedies or chemicals will protect against insect pests.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Growing regions

The shaggy bumblebee is a product of the Barnaul nursery, and this territory has not the most favorable climatic conditions: the long winter is replaced by a short, but often sultry summer without precipitation. The variety turned out to be unpretentious to various weather anomalies and feels great in most Russian regions: from the North-West to the Far East.
