Moneymaker is the kind of tomato that has a decent yield, while growing quite easily. Therefore, it is perfect for beginner gardeners.

Breeding history

Moneymaker (other names for it Moneymaker, Making money) is an old English variety, a classic heirloom of greenhouse tomatoes, which was born a long time ago, in 1913. The creator of the culture was the well-known breeding company F. Stoner Seed Co, which bred a variety specifically for greenhouses, and for a long time it was one of the most popular in the UK, but now it is quite rare.

In our country, the variety is popular today, both among farmers and among ordinary gardeners. Back in the 60s and 70s of the last century, the moneymaker came to the Soviet Union and immediately gained fame.

Unfortunately, the tomato of this variety was not included in the State Register of the Russian Federation. But, despite this fact, it is often grown in Russia, Belarus, as well as Lithuania and Ukraine.

Description of the variety

The vegetative form of the Moneymaker tomato is indeterminate, the bush is tall, reaching 150-180 centimeters. The plant is highly leafy, has rather powerful shoots that can withstand a fairly large harvest. The plant is distinguished by simple inflorescences.

The main qualities of the fruit

Moneymaker is a typical carpal tomato crop. Each cluster can have up to 15 fruits, while the clusters themselves grow about 7 per stem. In this case, the very first brush is located next to the 7th sheet, then they go more often, every 2-3 sheets, which looks very beautiful.

An unripe Moneymaker tomato is painted in a light green shade, but the ripe fruits in the brushes are red. The weight of each individual tomato is small, from 80 to 100 grams. However, they are all the same, even, round, smooth, even glossy, the presentation is excellent, ripe brushes look perfect.

Taste characteristics

As for the taste of Moneymaker, it is quite rich, tomato, sweet, but with a certain sourness that not everyone likes, some even believe that tomato is not suitable for salads. Nevertheless, tomatoes with firm pulp are worthy of fresh consumption.

Vegetables contain many minerals, citric acid and vitamins (A, B, C). Tomatoes are good for digestion, have a refreshing effect, and stimulate gastric secretion. But the main thing is that the variety has no equal in whole-fruit canning. The fruits are small, so it's just a classic for placing in glass jars. And the plus is not only this - tomatoes perfectly perceive heat treatment, do not crack, remain the same elastic. In addition, they are ideal for making juice, ketchup, pasta, lecho.

Ripening and fruiting

Moneymaker ripens early, from 100 to 110 days. But fruiting is long, starting in July and until frost, you can collect ripe brushes.

Yield

Moneymaker is considered a high-yielding variety. Many people form a culture of 3 stems, so it turns out that it is possible to collect up to 20 kilograms of fruit from almost every plant.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

The sowing seedlings are also stretched out. You can sow seeds from February to April.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

Experienced gardeners recommend planting Moneymaker at 3 bushes per 1 m2.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and caring

When cultivating Moneymaker tomatoes, it is important to follow simple steps.

Moneymaker is necessarily grown with dive seedlings. These measures make it possible to transform the root system into a fibrous one, which increases their feeding area.

The culture is tall in terms of its characteristics, the seedlings can stretch out. If this happens, it can be planted by laying it on its side, which will enable the plant to develop a root system.

Given that the variety has a high yield potential, it is very important to choose the right planting site and prepare pre-planting trenches.

Bushes must be pinned, and also tied to a support. The formation of this tomato variety occurs most often in 3 stems.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

Moneymaker's English roots remind of themselves in that the variety is very resistant to adverse, even extreme weather conditions, high humidity, and also perfectly tolerates drafts and temperature changes.Surprisingly, the culture can even set fruit.
