Tomatoes are one of the most popular vegetables, they are low in calories and are fairly easy to grow. For example, the Raspberry Giant variety. With a little care and adherence to the rules of agricultural technology, within a few months after planting, you can enjoy your own harvest of tomatoes.

Description of the variety

The crimson giant has a determinant type of growth. It is grown with great success in the open field and in film greenhouses. The bushes grow up to a maximum of 90 cm.The tomato turns out to be spreading with large dark green foliage.

The inflorescence of the Raspberry Giant is intermediate, the stalk has an articulation. The fruits are put on the table fresh, they are not suitable for canning.

The main qualities of the fruit

When the fruits are still immature, they are green in color, the stalk has a dark spot. When mature, they turn crimson.

In size, the fruits of the Raspberry Giant are large, hence the name. Reach 300 grams in weight. They are round in shape, with slight ribbing. The pulp is of medium density.

Taste characteristics

The fruits are pleasant to the taste, there is a characteristic tomato aroma.

Ripening and fruiting

The Raspberry Giant is an early ripening tomato. Fruits are harvested in 105-110 days. Harvesting begins in July and lasts until August.

Yield

From one square meter, the yield is 5.9 kilograms.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Seedlings can be planted in February or March.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

With the Raspberry Giant, a scheme of 2-3 bushes per square meter is used.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

The described variety requires pinching. All unnecessary shoots are removed, except for the main one. They rarely develop high-quality fruits, while they consume a large amount of nutrients.

And also the Raspberry Giant is tied to trellises or stakes. In this case, the tomato bushes do not collapse when the fruit is poured.

When forming, it is allowed to leave 2 stems.

Tomatoes are ready to plant when they have a well-developed and healthy root system. This means that 6-8 leaves should form on the bush, the height is 15-30 cm, and the stem diameter is 4-7 mm. It is desirable that there are no flowers yet.

Planting should not be delayed, since too elongated seedlings are much worse accepted, and the yield of such plants is weaker. The raspberry giant does not require quenching if it is planted in a greenhouse.

The soil for growing tomatoes of this variety must be fertile, with a pH of 5.5 to 6.5, and most importantly, free from pathogens (pathogens) and pests. In the fall (in the year preceding cultivation), we dig the soil deeply, if necessary, mix it with rotted compost or other organic fertilizer.

In open ground, all tomatoes cannot be planted in the place where other vegetables from the nightshade family - red peppers, potatoes - previously grew.

To prevent weed growth, cover the soil around the plants with a black film or mulch with straw.

Plants are placed 2-3 cm deeper than they grew in a pot. Bushes of the Raspberry Giant should not grow close to each other. Too close proximity promotes the spread of disease, restricts airflow, and prevents light from reaching the foliage.

After planting tomato seedlings, the Raspberry Giant is intensively watered in a permanent place of the plant, and in the following days we slightly moisten the soil so that they take root well. Later, we obey the rule that it is better to water tomatoes rarely and abundantly, and not often and scarcely. These plants require more water during the period of fruit setting and growth. When watering, do not touch the leaves and the tomatoes themselves, as this can contribute to the appearance of infection.

The first fertilization is carried out 3 weeks after planting in the ground. It is better to use ready-made specialized top dressing for tomatoes, and apply them according to the manufacturer's recommendations. In the early stages of growth, the tomato will need a lot of nitrogen to create green mass. You can use ammonium nitrate (the dose is indicated on the package).

During intensive growth, the demand for other elements also grows - it is recommended to use universal fertilizers for growing vegetables.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

When planting the Raspberry Giant, it is almost impossible to completely get rid of the larvae of pests, bacteria and fungi. They can remain in the greenhouse, in soil and plant debris. Therefore, gardeners use various methods of prevention.

Since potatoes and tomatoes are attacked by the same pests, it is not recommended to plant them next to each other. To avoid fungal diseases, it is enough to maintain a normal humidity level.It is the increased soil moisture that is the best breeding ground for fungal diseases.

Prevention of phytophthora is carried out at the seedling stage. This disease has recently become very common not only in the Raspberry Giant. Processing can be carried out with copper sulfate and manganese solution.

In order to prevent potato plague, the following substances can be used to spray tomato seedlings:

  • kefir;

  • copper sulfate;

  • Bordeaux mixture;

  • infusion of garlic.

To prepare a solution of kefir, you must mix 5 liters of water with 0.5 liters of kefir. Process the bushes every 7 days.

Spray the Raspberry Giant tomatoes in the greenhouse with garlic infusion, it is prepared as follows:

  • 1 cup minced garlic

  • 5 liters of water;

  • 0.5 grams of potassium permanganate, diluted in hot water.

For the prevention of diseases, you can use not one specific method, but several in turn.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.
