Krasnaya Zvezda is a hybrid tomato variety popular not only in Russia, but also far beyond its borders. This demand is due to the high yield of the variety, as well as its excellent taste.

Description of the variety

The red star forms medium-sized shrubs with a semi-determinant type of growth. As a rule, the height of the bushes does not exceed 140 cm, which makes it easier to care for this variety.

It is customary to cultivate a hybrid in open or closed ground, the choice will depend on the climatic characteristics of the region. It is worth noting that the fruits ripen at the same time, so it will be easy to harvest. From 6 to 8 beautiful fruits are tied on the clusters.

The main qualities of the fruit

The mass of a single tomato can range from 90 to 110 grams. These are average sizes. Tomatoes grow round, very even, smooth. Ribbing is almost absent. The Krasnaya Zvezda variety, as the name suggests, produces fruits of the classic red color.

The pulp of the berries is distinguished by a high density, and sugar is visible on the cuts. Each fruit contains at least 5 chambers with seeds. However, collecting seeds on your own is pointless, since you still cannot get parental qualities.

Taste characteristics

The tomatoes taste more sweet, but a pleasant sourness is also present. The aroma is standard, tomato. The compactness of the fruits and their excellent taste allow the use of berries in cooking. Fresh tomatoes are recommended for children and those on a diet. The processed ones are used for juice, tomato paste. An excellent ketchup is obtained from the Red Star, and such tomatoes are canned whole and dried.

Ripening and fruiting

The Red Star carpal hybrid is mid-season. The full maturity of the crop occurs 100-105 days after planting.

Yield

It is for the high yields that the tomato is so appreciated by vegetable growers. And the indicators are really great:

  • 1 bush - 4-5 kg;

  • 1 sq. m - 18 kg.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

In most regions of the Russian Federation, seeds are planted from mid-March to early April. The soil will need light, with good looseness and neutral acidity. You will not have to deal with disinfection of seeds, since the manufacturer processes them himself.

The depth of placement of the grains is 1 centimeter, and they must be placed in an already moistened substrate. The room in which the seedlings covered with foil are kept should be warm. The higher the temperature, the faster the seedlings will appear. But the film must be opened daily so that the sprouts do not suffocate.

After picking, young shoots can be fed a couple of times. For the first time, they are fed with liquid organic matter, then they are given mineral complexes. In order for the seedlings to grow healthy, they are kept on a warm, lighted windowsill. Hardening of sprouts begins 10 days before transshipment. The latter is carried out in May (for greenhouses) or in June (for open land).

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all.All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The bushes are quite compact and do not grow much, so only 30 cm can be left between the holes. And the row spacing should be 0.5 m.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

The red star is planted on fertile soils, fertilized since autumn. It is impossible for other nightshades to grow on this very place in previous seasons. If it is open ground, then the most sunny place is chosen. It should be blown by a light breeze, but constant drafts should not be allowed.

Proper watering is important for this variety. The water for them must be brought to room temperature at least. Once a week, the liquid is fed under the root, while it is impossible for individual leaves to lie on damp ground. Before watering, the soil is loosened so that the water penetrates faster to the roots. During periods of prolonged rains, tomatoes are not watered (in the open field).

Formation can be carried out in 1 or several trunks. It is worth remembering that the largest fruits will be obtained with one trunk, but if there are several stems, then more brushes will ripen. In this case, the formation features remain at the choice of the gardener. But you will have to cut off the stepsons in any case, as well as the lower foliage. To avoid injury to the stem, it will have to be tied to a support in the open field or to a trellis in a greenhouse.

Top dressing for the Red Star is necessary, but these are absolutely classic options. Seven days after planting, the shoots are supplied with nitrogen. The formation of ovaries is noted with minerals, and fruiting - with potash and phosphorus mixtures. 10 days before harvesting, stop any feeding, otherwise harmful substances will remain in the tomatoes.

Among other things, plants need protection against diseases, especially fungal diseases. So that the bushes do not pick up all sorts of ailments, you should always use clean tools in your work, and spray fungicides in a timely manner. Spraying is carried out on a leaf in cloudy weather and in accordance with the schedule.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Review overview

Summer residents discovered the red star a few years ago. Despite the fact that the variety is quite young, it is highly valued. Huge yields with relatively light agricultural technology are the main advantage of the hybrid. Red Star is considered one of the most productive varieties, so it will be an excellent choice for entrepreneurs.

The only disadvantage is susceptibility to disease. But they can also be avoided through proper prevention.
