Tomato Cornabel is a novelty from French breeders. This is a large-fruited tomato with original pepper-shaped fruits. Attracts with abundant fruiting, vitality and quality of fruits.

Breeding history

The Cornabel tomato is of French origin, very popular in France. In 2019, Vilmorin S. A., the largest producer of seeds for professional cultivation, submitted an application to enter the variety into the Russian Register. In 2021, the variety was officially approved for cultivation in almost all regions of Russia.

The variety was conceived to be productive, disease resistant and high in dry matter. Such tomatoes have almost no seeds, are ideal for drying, sweet and rich in taste.

Description of the variety

The variety is indeterminate, that is, not limited in growth, it shows itself perfectly in year-round industrial cultivation.

The bush is harmonious, symmetrical, thanks to the arrangement of the foliage, it effectively uses the energy of the sun. The leaves are large, pointed, abundant. The root system is powerful, providing the plant with stability and fertility even during periods of lack of moisture.

Disease resistance is excellent. Very high resistance to:

  1. tomato mosaic virus;

  2. fusarium wilt;

  3. verticillary wilting.

It perfectly tolerates sudden changes in temperature.

The main qualities of the fruit

Fruits are cylindrical, pointed, bright red, shaped like sweet peppers. They have excellent commodity characteristics: shelf life, transportable, with a thin, but dense and non-cracking skin. Very attractive when ripe - smooth, rich in color, shiny. Fruits are large, length up to 15 cm, weight 200-240 g. There are almost no seeds. The main part of the fruit is a juicy dense pulp.

Fruits are collected in bunches of 5-9 pcs. The main stem yields up to 5 clusters, the rest of the crop is yielded by well-formed stepchildren.

The largest fruits are the first, in some cases they can reach 450 g. As the crop is harvested, they become smaller, the last fruits can be only 70 g.

Taste characteristics

The main purpose of tomato is fresh consumption. But the Cornabel hybrid, due to its dense pulp and yield, is also good for other purposes: drying, drying.

The variety is included in the sugar category. These are tomatoes, the flesh of which shows a characteristic watermelon grain on the fracture, and the taste is very sweet, delicate and full-bodied. The variety is great in fresh salads, side dishes, soups, cocktails, desserts, sweet dishes.

Small and large fruits can be used for preservation whole, due to their shape they look original in blanks. Fruits of any size are suitable for winter salads.

In poor growing conditions, with a lack of nutrition and sun, the taste can become more bland.

Ripening and fruiting

The variety is late-ripening. From the moment the seedlings are planted in the ground to the removal of the fruits, 60 days pass. The fruiting type is long-term. The bush will tie fruits until cold weather, without interruption.

Yield

The yield is high. Up to 50 fruits can be removed from the bush, even with lack of care. The variety has a huge potential, with 1 sq.m actually get 19.2 kg, although even 15 kg are considered a record for this culture. In the open field in the cold regions of the Russian Federation, the yield will be lower, the ideal figures are given for film greenhouses with an extended period of the productive period.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Sowing for seedlings is carried out in March, from the 10th to the 30th. It is permissible to sow in early April. Specific terms are determined based on their own capabilities and climate in the region. Do not tighten the fit. From the moment of sowing seeds to planting in open ground for the late-ripening variety Cornabel, 35-40 days should pass, in closed - 45-55 days.

You should also not rush to sowing. Tomato crops must receive enough light. Sowing in February should be carried out only with supplementary lighting or with the expectation of the future deepening of elongated seedlings.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

Cornabel tomatoes are planted at a distance of 70 cm from each other, the distance between rows is 60 cm.

The height of the plant can reach 1.5-2 m, the desired height is set by the gardener based on his conditions. In the open field, the variety grows more compact, up to 1 m, but still needs a garter. The lashes and fruit branches are fixed with special plastic clips and fabric garters to the trellises. Wire frames or linear fastening are not very convenient for the Cornabel variety. The plant is quite powerful, especially during fruiting, and requires good support.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

The variety is recommended to grow in film greenhouses. Indeterminate large-fruited varieties with an extended harvest time reveal their potential in greenhouses, the Kornabel variety is no exception. However, the State Register of the Russian Federation recommends the variety for open ground, private gardens and vegetable gardens.

So that the fruits are not crushed, and the variety has shown its potential, one stem should be left when forming a bush. All stepsons up to 1 fetal hand are removed. You just need to do it right. If you just pinch the side shoots, new ones will appear in their place. Wait until the stepson grows to 5 cm, and then break off part of it, leaving a stump 3 cm long. More stepsons will not appear in this place.

After 1 fetal brush, 2-3 of the strongest shoots are left, the rest of the stepsons are not completely removed, but at their own discretion: relying on the capabilities of the bush in the given conditions and the desired yield. Flowers appear every 3 leaves.

Reviews

The variety delights with its taste, yield and keeping quality. The plentiful, rich bunches of large sugar tomatoes are very attractive. The variety is pleasant to collect. The first tomatoes are consumed fresh, it is so tasty that it does not require sauces and additives, the subsequent fruits go to marinades and blanks - the skin of the fruit does not crack, in processed form they are just as tasty and rich. The last tomatoes, picked green, ripen perfectly.

Very popular with small farmers. Tomato is in demand, appreciated for its meatiness, beautiful shape, rather thin, easily removable skin, while being able to easily endure the difficulties of transportation. The Cornabel tomato is called the best among the pepper ones.

Despite the fact that it is difficult to get your own seeds from the tomatoes of this variety, and it should not transmit its characteristics, since it is a hybrid, some craftsmen manage to grow good tomatoes from hand-picked seeds. Of the minuses, gardeners note a weak resistance to brown spot, a high cost of seeds, rarely an uneven asymmetrical shape and a lack of sweetness in taste.

But the disadvantages of the variety will appear only on weak agricultural technology. The most important thing is to provide the plant with abundant sun and the correct formation of the bush. Then the harvest will delight you with an abundance of large tomatoes of great taste.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporiosis, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.
