When choosing a tomato variety for planting, summer residents and farmers are guided primarily by yield indicators, ease of agricultural technology and the versatility of the species. These types of tomatoes include the mid-season Canary variety, which grows well both in the garden and in the greenhouse.

Breeding history

This culture was created by a group of Novosibirsk breeders (Kamanin, Gubko) in 2005. The main task of the scientists was to breed a variety that bears fruit equally well in the open field and in the greenhouse, regardless of the illumination. The species was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia in 2007. In the same year, the variety was allowed to grow in different regions of the Russian Federation.

Description of the variety

The Canary tomato variety is a tall, indeterminate bush, reaching a height of 110 to 180 cm. The bushes have medium thick foliage of a dark green color, strong and flexible stems, a powerful and well-developed root system, as well as complex inflorescences. Due to the weak foliage of the top, it is not necessary to thin out the bush, since the tomatoes already receive enough light. On each bush, up to 5-6 brushes with 4-5 ovaries are formed. Experts recommend the formation of a bush in 1-2 stems, regular removal of new stepchildren and a garter to trellises or free-standing supports, otherwise the stem will deform or break under the weight of tomatoes. This variety of tomatoes belongs to the category of universal ones - it is eaten fresh, canned, processed into sauces, mashed potatoes, dressings, and salted. The variety is not suitable for whole-fruit canning due to the weight of the tomatoes.

The main qualities of the fruit

The Canary tomato is a representative of large-fruited varieties, the average weight of which is 163-182 grams, however, berries often grow up to 500-600 g. The vegetable is characterized by a regular rounded shape with an ideal smooth surface. Sometimes the fruit can be heart-shaped. When fully ripe, the fruit has a bright red color. In an unripe form, the tomato is light green in color. The peel of tomatoes is dense, practically not felt, with a pronounced shine. It is the skin that forms a protective barrier, thanks to which the vegetable does not crack and is stored for a long time (about 2-3 months under the right conditions). Tomatoes tolerate transportation well.

Taste characteristics

The Canary tomato is characterized by excellent taste. Its pulp, endowed with a light scarlet color, is sweet, without the slightest hint of sourness, sugary, very juicy, with a small number of seeds. There is no wateriness in the taste. The aroma of tomatoes is pronounced - spicy.

Ripening and fruiting

Belongs to the class of mid-season. From the appearance of full shoots to the first ripe berries, it takes about 4 months (116-120 days). Ripening of fruits occurs amicably, which allows you to collect the entire crop with whole brushes. When ripe, the tomatoes do not crumble. Subject to the rules of care, the first ripe tomatoes appear in the first decade of July.

Yield

The Canary variety is characterized by a high yield, which is one of its advantages. Observing all the rules of agrotechnical care, 10 kg of berries can be harvested from 1 m2 per season.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

You can sow seeds for seedlings in March-April - 65-70 days before transferring to a permanent place. Seedlings germinate in 6-8 days. Healthy growth requires maintaining the room temperature (+ 20 ... 22) and good lighting (10-12 hours a day). At the stage of the appearance of several leaves, a dive is carried out in separate containers. 8-12 days before planting, the bushes need to be tempered by exposing them to fresh air, which will facilitate the adaptation of the plant to new conditions.

Landing in the ground is carried out in April-May (sometimes in early June). At the time of planting on the garden bed, the bush should have 6-7 leaves and one flower cluster.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

In order for the plant to grow comfortably, and for the summer resident to easily take care of it, the planting density must be observed. In this case, it is recommended to place no more than 3 bushes per 1 m2. The optimal layout for planting is 30x50 cm.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and caring

The plant is grown by seedling method. The soil should be loose, breathable, moderately moist and fertilized. Crop care includes: watering with warm water, fertilizing, loosening and mulching the soil, shaping and tying a bush, removing unnecessary stepchildren, as well as preventing disease.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The immune system of tomato is high, therefore the variety is practically not susceptible to viral and fungal diseases.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

The culture has a high resistance to sharp drops in temperature, as well as to a lack of lighting, which is important if tomatoes grow in shaded areas.

Growing regions

The Canary variety can grow and give high yields in any climatic zone of Russia, Ukraine or Moldova.
