There are varieties of tomatoes that can be grown at home in small containers or pots. This is especially true for people who do not have their own vegetable garden or garden. Potted red tomato belongs to just such crops.

Breeding history

The variety was bred by the "Gavrish Breeding Firm", with the participation of a team of breeders. In 2015, Potted Red Tomato was introduced to the market. The main task of the authors was to create a variety that could be grown not only in open or closed ground, but also at home. At the same time, the culture should not lose its characteristics.

Description of the variety

The variety is determinant. Sometimes it is indicated on the labels that it is superdeterminate, since the height of the bush does not exceed 25-30 cm. For this, the culture is ranked among undersized ornamental species.

The stem is powerful and large. Tying is necessary. In this case, the height of the bush does not affect tying so much. The crown of the variety is spreading and well developed. The plant has many leaves.

The fruits ripen actively. Therefore, in order not to break the stem, it is necessary to drive a peg or any other stick of a suitable size into the pot.

The leaves are small. The color is green, matte. The plate has a characteristic midsection and veins; there are large notches along the edging. The posterior surface of the leaf is lighter than the front and has greater pubescence.

Inflorescences are formed by the type of simple and intermediate.

The advantages of the variety include:

  • height and compactness of the bush;

  • there is no need for pinching and rationing the growth of leaves and crown;

  • growing in small containers or pots;

  • immunity to a number of fungal diseases;

  • yield;

  • unpretentiousness in soil and care;

  • storage periods;

  • versatility of the type.

The main qualities of the fruit

Fruits are small, round or spherical in shape. The first tomatoes can weigh 50-60 g, the subsequent ones - only 30-40 g. The color of the fruit is deep red, in unripe fruits it is light green.

The rind is dense, smooth, with a slight gloss. Due to its density, the skin does not crack.

The pulp is red-pink, not too dense, juicy and not watery. There are only 2-3 chambers inside with small seeds.

Taste characteristics

The taste qualities of potted red tomato have high rates among gardeners. The variety is credited with a honey and sweet aftertaste, which is completely devoid of acidity.

Tomatoes are eaten fresh. They are also well suited for curing and whole canning.

Ripening and fruiting

The variety belongs to early maturing crops with a ripening period of 80-90 days. Although tomatoes are formed at the same time, they ripen in several stages. Harvesting takes place at the end of June - mid-July.

Yield

1.5-2 kg of tomatoes are collected from one bush.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Before sowing, the seeds are soaked in water, then treated with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. The soil is poured into the seedling boxes, and holes are made.The depth of the fossa is not more than 3 cm.

After sowing the seeds, the soil is spilled with water, covered with foil and placed on a windowsill. Sowing time is mid-March. It is also necessary to start from where the culture will subsequently grow, and it is also worth considering the presence of a UV lamp.

The seeds will hatch within one week. The pick is made twice. The first is when 2 leaves appear on the stem. Seedlings should be planted in small containers. The second time they dive in a month, already to a permanent place, that is, into a spacious 5-8 liter pot.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

Low-growing varieties are usually planted one bush in one pot. In this case, the seedlings develop well, and they have enough of all the useful minerals.

If the vegetable is grown on the site, then it is necessary to prepare the soil. Add useful minerals and spill with water. The holes should be formed shallow, up to 15 cm. The distance between the bushes is 30x30 cm. If necessary, it is worth taking care of the pegs.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

Potted red tomato is unpretentious to care for, especially if grown at home. But it is still worth observing some agrotechnical points.

  • The most important thing in planting seedlings is the right container. Usually pots of 5-8 liters are chosen. This is necessary in order for the root system to form correctly and go deeper down, and not to the side. But the capacity should not be narrow. The optimal diameter is from 15 cm.

  • Balconies or window sills are chosen as the place of cultivation. The best location is considered to be the east, south and west sides.

  • For good pot growth, it is best to mix commercial and turf soil, adding a small amount of compost and minerals.

  • Compliance with the watering regime. For potted crops, this is more relevant than ever, because the water does not evaporate. Therefore, it is necessary to think over drainage, and punch holes in the bottom of the pot.

  • Top dressing should be carried out a little more often than if this culture grew on the site. For fertilization, nitrogen-containing preparations are chosen.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth.All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.
