Tomatoes are grown in almost every household plot. Fans of hybrid varieties that give large yields and are completely unpretentious in care should start growing Diabolic tomatoes, created in Japan.

Breeding history of the variety

The nightshade crop with the exotic name Diabolic was developed by a group of Japanese breeders representing Sakata in the 2000s. The variety was entered in the state register of the Russian Federation, and also approved for use in 2008. The culture has been zoned for cultivation in the North Caucasus region, but today Diabolic tomatoes grow successfully in different climatic zones.

Description of the variety

The seed crop is a determinant, medium-sized bush, stretching to a height of 140-160 cm. The bushes have powerful stems, a strong root system, high thickening of green foliage and complex inflorescences of a complex type, in the form of a brush, where about 10 tomatoes can form. Experts recommend the obligatory formation of bushes in 2-3 stems and a garter to the supports. The plant does not need pinching, since it is not characterized by the appearance of a large number of stepsons.

The main qualities of the fruit

Diabolic tomatoes grow to medium size - 62-110 grams. The shape of the berries is unusual - elliptical (plum-like), and the classic color is bright red. In a state of immaturity, the berries are light green in color.

The tomato peel is ideally smooth, shiny, of high density, therefore, the fruits tolerate transportation well, retaining their presentation, and are also distinguished by long-term keeping quality provided that storage conditions are observed. Thanks to their dense skin, tomatoes are not prone to cracking. In some cases, tomatoes are pepper-shaped.

Taste characteristics

The palatability of the fruit is high. The flesh of the berries of a dark pink color is fleshy, of moderate density, juicy and aromatic. The taste is sweet, but some gardeners lack sweetness in them.

In addition, there are practically no seeds in the pulp. The variety has a salad purpose, however, canned and dried fruits also have high taste.

Ripening and fruiting

Diabolic is a mid-season tomato type. It will take 100-120 days to grow it (from the first germination to harvest). The phase of active fruiting is somewhat prolonged, which allows you to enjoy fresh tomatoes for a long period.

Yield

The yields of the hybrid variety are impressive. If all the rules of agricultural technology are observed, farmers collect 256-296 quintals of tomatoes from 1 hectare. Ripening of berries occurs gradually. At the end of the season, harvesting is possible at the stage of brown maturity, since tomatoes ripen well in indoor conditions.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

You can sow seeds for seedlings in March. The seed should be checked for suitability, and also disinfected using a solution of potassium permanganate.It is recommended to grow seedlings in a room with a temperature of + 20-22 degrees, where there is a lot of light. The first shoots usually appear after 7-10 days.

Diving (planting in separate pots) of bushes is carried out at the stage of appearance of 2-3 true leaves. Some experts advise, 2 weeks before planting in open ground, to harden the bushes by airing them in the fresh air.

Disembarkation is carried out in May. In this case, night frosts should be behind, and the soil and air should be sufficiently warmed up.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The recommended planting scheme is considered to be 40x60 cm. Up to 4-5 bushes of seedlings can be planted per 1 m2, which will create the most favorable conditions for the growth and care of the plant.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

To grow plants, you need to choose a well-lit area, previously cleared of weeds and debris. The soil needs to be dug up to improve air permeability, apply mineral and organic fertilizers, and moisten.

Caring for the hybrid Diabolic variety consists of the following activities:

  • watering with settled water (water should not fall on the greenery of the bushes);
  • feeding according to a special scheme (before and after flowering, as well as during the period of pouring berries);
  • shaping and garter;
  • soil fluffing;
  • disease prevention.
Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

This hybrid type of tomato is famous for its high resistance to many diseases - verticillium, fusarium wilting, root nematode, gray leaf and bacterial spot, phomopsis. Special spraying will help to protect against the invasion of pests, which should not be neglected. Controlling the moisture level of the soil will help protect the bushes from late blight.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

A huge advantage of the variety is its high resistance to many unfavorable weather conditions - sharp temperature fluctuations, excessive heat and drought. Tomatoes develop equally well and form fruit in all weather conditions.

Growing regions

In the southern regions of Russia, Diabolic tomatoes are grown in open ground, and in the northern regions - in greenhouses. In recent years, the variety has been successfully growing in Ukraine.

Review overview

Diabolic tomatoes are massively grown by farmers and agrarians on an industrial scale, since the variety gives high yields, does not require special rules of agricultural technology, and tolerates transportation and long-term storage well. Of the shortcomings, gardeners indicate only that the variety is picky about the place of growth, which should be abundantly illuminated by the sun.
