The varieties bred in the early 2010s are gradually becoming classics. And it's time to know their characteristics for every gardener who wants to update their collection of tomatoes. The Girly Hearts culture can be a good choice in this regard.

Breeding history

Such a tomato was created by Agrofirma Aelita LLC. The development of the culture was carried out by breeders Nastenko, Kachainik and Gulkin. The work was carried out in the 2000s and early 2010s. The state permit for gardening of Maiden Hearts was issued in 2013.

Description of the variety

It belongs to the indeterminate category. Cultivation is possible both in open ground and in greenhouses under a film. The plant was zoned into:

  • Western Siberia;
  • edges and regions of the Far East;
  • central Black Earth region;
  • Moscow region;
  • the Ural and East Siberian regions;
  • Volga region.

The height of the bushes ranges from 1.6 to 2 m. They develop medium-sized leaves. A simple green color is typical for this foliage. You can use the crop fresh. It also often becomes an excellent raw material for juice production.

The main qualities of the fruit

Newly emerged berries will have a light green color at the beginning of the growing season. In the area of the base (peduncle), the same light green spot is formed there. Its tone is only slightly different from the main background. When the crop is ripe, it turns red. The mass of the berries is 0.15-0.17 kg.

They really resemble hearts in shape. Ribbing is also characteristic of such tomatoes. Up to 10 berries can be seen in one brush. They will form on complex inflorescences. Articulated stalks adjoin the tomatoes.

Taste characteristics

Maiden Hearts have a sweet but not sugary taste. The fruit contains moderately firm flesh. Tasters note the juiciness of most of the berries. Their assessment by consumers is extremely high.

Ripening and fruiting

Girly Hearts are a simple mid-season culture. On average, 111 to 115 days pass between sprouting and the beginning of harvesting. The harvest time is in July, August and September.

Yield

Girlish hearts can produce from 10 to 10.5 kg of berries per 1 sq. m. Such a small spread makes it possible to count on a stable collection rate. Strict adherence to crop standards can be critical in many cases.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

The time to plant seeds in large pots or containers comes in the first half of March. It is necessary to transplant prepared seedlings into the ground no earlier than mid-May. Usually the deadline for this procedure ends on June 5th. But occasionally, in a cold or warm year, you will have to change such a schedule. The specific decision must be made by gardeners who know the specific situation.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The standard order is 600x500 mm. The maximum number of bushes per 1 sq.m - no more than 4 pieces. This is allowed only when it is necessary to achieve maximum fertility. If you limit yourself to 3 plants, you can significantly simplify care.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and caring

Removing stepchildren will be a strictly mandatory step. It will also be very difficult to do without tying to a support. Formation is carried out at your own discretion. It should be done in 1 or 2 stems. Open cultivation is recommended for southern regions. In the middle lane and cooler regions, it is necessary to use greenhouse shelters.

Cultivation in greenhouses differs little from cultivation of other varieties. Susceptibility to the main diseases of tomatoes makes them use preventive treatments. Too frequent feeding is impractical, since it can provoke excessive growth of stepchildren. When removing leaves, you must act carefully so that the skin does not peel off the trunk. Watering the Maiden Hearts tomato should be 1 or 2 times a week.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.
