True lovers of tomatoes, carefully replenishing their collections, carefully monitoring the appearance of interesting new products, are probably aware of the ever-increasing popularity of Siberian varieties. The determinant variety Demidov is distinguished by its amazing unpretentiousness and strength of adaptation to any conditions. Its main feature is the ability to grow in a seedless way, even in the conditions of South-West Siberia. Sown with seeds in the open field, Demidov begins to bear fruit later, but manages to give a full harvest of rather large and tasty fruits with a high marketable yield - up to 98%. Tomatoes are meant to be eaten fresh, but they also make delicious juices and sauces.

Breeding history

The originators of the variety are E. V. Kashnova, V. G. Vysochin, N. N. Andreeva. The year of registration in the State Register of Breeding Achievements is 2001.

Description of the variety

Low, but powerful standard bushes, 60-64 cm high, have an upright orientation and weak branching. At the same time, the shoots are covered with medium-sized dark green foliage, similar in appearance to a potato, and the whole bush resembles a potato in appearance. The tomato blooms with ordinary yellow flowers, collected in simple inflorescences. The first is formed above 6-7 leaves, the subsequent ones alternate through 1-2 cuttings. Tomatoes are attached to an articulated stalk.

Pros of Siberian tomato:

  • endurance and unpretentiousness;

  • strong immunity, good keeping quality;

  • ripening and transportability;

  • the tomato transmits all the qualities of its seeds, which allows you to get your own seeds;

  • no need for pinching and tying, as well as excellent taste characteristics.

Cons of the variety:

  • lack of moisture leads to the appearance of symptoms of apical rot;

  • cracking with insufficient moisture.

The variety is cultivated not only on private land, it is grown on an industrial scale on farms, since it is highly profitable and justifies the investment many times over.

The main qualities of the fruit

Unripe rounded fruits with weak ribbing weighing from 80 to 120 grams and more (record weight of 330 g was recorded) are colored light green with a visible darkening at the stalk. At the stage of technical and physiological maturity, they take on an intense dark pink color with a transition to a scarlet or almost carmine hue. Brown tomatoes ripen well on windowsills or in a completely darkened room, laid out in 1 layer.

Taste characteristics

Dense juicy pulp of a pink-red hue, without excessive wateriness, contains 3.5-4.3% of dry matter. The skin is thin but firm. The taste is quite sweet, since there are at least 4% of sugars per 100 g of pulp. The acid is almost imperceptible, although it is present in moderation. The section shows 4 seed chambers.

Ripening and fruiting

Tomato belongs to mid-season varieties, the approximate ripening period is 101-109 days, but more specific indicators depend on the growing region.

Yield

The variety is considered high-yielding, and the indicators differ depending on the place of cultivation, but everywhere the figures are decent.For example, in the Volgo-Vyatka region, they remove from 150 to 470 centners per hectare, the West Siberian district shows stable results of 214-471 centners per hectare. Equally impressive yields in the Far East, Ural and other districts.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Sowing dates for seedlings depend on the time of planting young seedlings in a permanent place - they are different in all regions. Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out in one and a half to two months. Do not forget that Demidov bears fruit successfully using direct sowing into the ground. Then in the southern districts the beginning of May, in the northern ones - the end of the month.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

During the planting of Demidov's seedlings, they usually adhere to the 50x60 cm scheme, since the bushes, although not high, are quite powerful. When sowing seeds directly into the ground, it is recommended to maintain the same distance.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

If the choice is stopped on growing the variety by seedlings, then the algorithm of measures is standard. The seedling soil should be loose, balanced in terms of composition and acidity. If you do not have enough experience to compile the soil yourself, it is best to buy it in a store, especially since it is inexpensive. Seedlings should be watered moderately so as not to ruin weak plants with excessive moisture. It is advisable to replace part of the irrigation with moistening, spraying foliage and soil (for young seedlings, it is much more important not wet soil, but sufficient moisture). You should pay attention to this parameter if the air in the apartment is too dry. You can put a humidifier next to drawers and glasses.

Since it makes no sense to take Demidov's place in the greenhouse, leaving him for more demanding varieties, then we will talk about garden conditions and requirements.

For growing in open ground, the place is chosen according to the classic parameters:

  • good lighting;

  • soil fertility;

  • air permeability of the soil;

  • acidity level (it should be neutral).

The best time for transplantation is considered to be the time when the threat of recurrent frosts has passed. By this time, all preparatory activities with the site must be completed. Heavy loamy soils are loosened by introducing cereal husks for digging. The most useful is buckwheat husk. It not only makes the soil looser and lighter, but also enriches it with minerals and vitamins. In addition, it attracts earthworms from all over the area with its aroma. If the neighboring areas do not have such "doping", we can safely say that the worms from there will soon move to the vegetable garden with husks. Sour soil must be deoxidized by adding bone or dolomite flour, chalk. The soil in the holes is enriched with organic matter, superphosphate, wood ash or complex mineral fertilizers. Further care consists in timely watering, which is stopped after the beginning of the mass ripening of the crop. And also weeding, feeding, preventive treatments are needed.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The strong immunity of the variety, its resistance to various kinds of diseases have long been known, which explains its popularity. However, the tomato cannot cope with the pests on its own. Based on this, as well as for the prevention of the occurrence of possible diseases, treatment with insecticides and fungicides is necessary. In addition, the fruits are prone to cracking if there is a lack of moisture or overflow.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

Demidov is known as a variety suitable for cultivation in any climate, except for the Arctic. Therefore, it perfectly tolerates heat and cold snap, sudden changes in daily temperatures.

Growing regions

Initially, the variety was adapted to the conditions of the Volgo-Vyatka, West Siberian, East Siberian and Far Eastern regions, but subsequently showed its viability in all regions of the country.
