De Barao giant is a very famous tomato variety. This variety of tomatoes has Brazilian roots, but is able to perfectly adapt even in cold regions. Such tomatoes are cultivated everywhere.

Description of the variety

De Barao giant can be cultivated in greenhouses and outdoors. Such a variety is indeterminate, that is, it can grow widely without proper care. The bushes are actively stretching upward, sometimes reaching two meters. De Barao giant is distinguished by strong branching, lateral shoots grow rapidly. The foliage is very bright, rich, pleasant green color. There is a lot of it, it covers the whole bush. The leaves are characterized by a slightly elongated shape and rather large dimensions.

The main qualities of the fruit

Tomatoes grow fairly moderately. One brush can contain from 4 to 5 pieces, in extreme cases 6 pieces mature. Ripe, bright red fruits are plum-shaped, with a slight bulge at the tip resembling a spout. On closer inspection, you can see a light green ring located near the stalk. The mass of ripe tomatoes reaches 150-300 grams. There are practically no cases when it was larger.

Taste characteristics

Fleshy and juicy pulp is the main reason why the variety is so popular with Russian summer residents. In addition, it has a very bright, sweet taste. The sourness is also present. Thanks to this, De Barao giant tomatoes often become the main ingredient in summer vitamin salads, ketchup, juice, and preparations for the cold season.

Ripening and fruiting

De Barao the giant sings late, it takes him about 125 days. The ovaries are formed with a stable regularity, which indicates extended fruiting. Ripe berries can be satisfied until frost, but only if the climate permits. In cool regions, fruiting is prolonged by growing the variety in greenhouses.

Yield

The De Barao giant tomato has an excellent yield. Even in the open field, a single bush is capable of bearing 7 kilograms of tomatoes. In greenhouses, the indicator increases even more, reaching 11 kilograms. A square meter will allow you to collect more than 20 kilograms of fresh fruit.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Due to the late maturity, the De Barao giant tomatoes must be planted on seedlings in advance. Before they can be moved to the permanent place of the site, at least 60-70 days must pass. Seedling preparation begins in early March. Cultivation will not cause difficulties even for novice gardeners:

  1. garden soil is combined with a small amount of humus or manure;

  2. the resulting substrate is supplemented with potassium chloride and urea, both ingredients are taken in an amount of 15 grams;

  3. after mixing the above, the soil is supplemented with 50 grams of superphosphate and a glass of wood ash;

  4. the substrate is laid out in small and pre-disinfected containers;

  5. the grains are buried by 2 cm, sprinkled with a thin layer, watered, covered with a film;

  6. carry the containers to a place where there is a lot of sun;

  7. do not forget to open the shelter daily for the supply of oxygen, monitor the soil moisture (all watering is carried out thanks to the spray gun);

  8. fertilize every 2 weeks;

  9. after the formation of 3 leaves, a dive is made, transplanting the seedling along with the lump;

  10. in May, they are transferred to a greenhouse and rooted, having prepared the soil in the room in advance and creating all the conditions.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

De Barao giant tomatoes will give stable yields only if properly planted. It is necessary to remember about the high height of the bush, its spreading. This means that you cannot have more than three plants per square meter, otherwise they will start competing for nutrients and space. When planting young shoots, control the distance between them. The optimal distance will be 60 cm. Do not forget that about half a meter of space should also be left between the rows. This will make it easier to care for and harvest the finished crop.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

This is not to say that De Barao giant belongs to the capricious and whimsical varieties. But you still have to provide minimal care.

Even during planting, the plants need to be well watered. About a liter of water is poured into the landing pits, and then everything must be mulched. So the seedlings can not be watered for about 10 days, and this time should be enough for the roots to learn how to independently extract water from the ground. This will allow you to get more resistant shoots. Further, watering is carried out no more than once a week, combining it with surface loosening and weeding (the latter is carried out in the absence of mulch).

De Barao the giant grows much better when fed. There are no special tricks here, they give the same top dressing as for other varieties. The only thing is that they are used every 14 days, always alternating. For example, organic first, and then the mineral complex, or vice versa. All fertilizers are supplied in liquid form. Foliage should be avoided.

This variety is distinguished by its impressive size, and therefore the gardener cultivating it will have to perform such actions as pinching, garter and shaping. Stepsons grow quickly, actively, the entire growing season. As soon as they appear on the bush, you need to pick them off with your fingers. Scissors are highly discouraged. Leaves that have fallen too close to the ground are also cut off. They can rot, and this will serve as a source of infection. Places where stepchildren are removed must be sprinkled with ash.

It is imperative to tie up this variety, because the harvest is expected to be plentiful. The procedure is carried out immediately after planting. Or, you can simply drive a peg next to it to tie it up later. It is impossible to nail a stake to an adult seedling, as it can easily damage the root system. Formation is carried out in 1 or 2 stems, it depends on the space of the greenhouse and the wishes of the gardener himself.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety.In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

De Barao giant is very resistant to late blight, which is very good, since the variety is late ripening. And other diseases rarely attack the bush. So that they never cause problems, it is necessary to carry out preventive spraying, to monitor the cleanliness of the greenhouse. In addition, it is highly not recommended to forget about the rules of crop rotation.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.
