Black bison is a rather unusual variety of tomatoes. This name was given to him because of the unique and rare color of the fruit. This culture is very hardy, and therefore a summer resident living in any region of the country can choose it for cultivation.

Breeding history

The black bison was born in the association Agrofirma Poisk LLC. Several breeders were engaged in its development at once: A. N. Khovrin, T. A. Tereshonkova, N. N. Klimenko, A. N. Kostenko. A variety with an indeterminate growth type was allowed for use not so long ago - in 2015.

Description of the variety

The plant has tall bushes, reaching parameters of 150-180 centimeters. The bushes are covered with foliage of an elongated shape and not too large in size. In seedlings, they will have a light green tint, and in an adult culture, a darker one.

Black bison fell in love with summer residents and farmers from all over the country, due to certain advantages:

  • the variety gives large fruits of an unusual shade, such are not found in every garden;

  • excellent taste;

  • the plant shows good resistance to many types of diseases.

But the lack of such tomatoes is poor keeping quality. Their skin is thin, delicate, and can quickly crack. Because of this, the fruits are practically not transported, preferring to grow for themselves and eat fresh.

The main qualities of the fruit

In the process of ripening, Bison black will be hung with fruits of a dark green color. On their basis, you can clearly see a dark speck. When ripe, the tomatoes will acquire a purple-brown color, which is very unusual for tomatoes. Flat-round berries with a weak ribbing are pleasing and large in size - each fruit weighs 200-280 grams. Under a thin skin, you can find a pulp with medium density.

Taste characteristics

Nobody complains about the taste of black Bison tomatoes. And this is not surprising, because it is very rich and has a pleasant sweetness. The aftertaste contains hints of fruit.

Ripening and fruiting

This variety of tomatoes will be ready for harvest 115-120 days after planting, which allows us to confidently classify it as a mid-early variety. Without a doubt, gardeners will be pleased that the variety bears fruit for a long time. The first wave will begin in July, and then more and more ovaries will form until September.

Yield

The plant gives stable and rich yields. About 6.3 kg of fresh tomatoes are usually harvested per square meter.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Sowing seedlings for this variety is recommended in March. To be completely sure of germination, the seeds can be soaked in a salt solution (5%). Those specimens that rise to the surface can be safely thrown away. To make the material grow faster, it is wrapped in gauze and placed in a solution of a product called "Epin-Extra" for about 18 hours.

It is better not to cook the soil on your own here, preferring the store one. Seedlings are grown in accordance with the classic rules:

  • the presence of a polyethylene shelter in the early days;

  • maintaining soil moisture;

  • ensuring the correct room temperature;

  • timely picking and jigging;

  • hardening.

If you adhere to generally accepted growing rules, then already at the end of May or early June you will have the opportunity to plant healthy and viable seedlings in the ground. The Black Bison tomatoes should be planted in a film greenhouse.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

This tomato variety really needs a properly prepared soil. It is best to saturate it with nitrogen since spring. To do this, experienced summer residents sow greenhouse soil with clover and wheat, and then dig it up. Plants in such soil are stronger and healthier. In a couple of weeks, you will need to carry out the following preparation:

  • remove weeds and vegetation residues;

  • remove and remove the upper layer, set the lower one aside;

  • put a thin layer (about 5 cm), consisting of straw, sawdust, pine needles;

  • lay out manure (the layer will be 10 cm);

  • covered with earth.

No more than 4 plants can be grown on one square meter of the greenhouse. A deviation from this rule threatens the thickening of the plantings and the development of the fungus. When planting seedlings, make a distance of half a meter between the bushes. Half a meter will need to be done between the rows.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

Despite such a serious name, Black Bison is absolutely unpretentious in care. Even completely inexperienced farmers can grow it. You can limit yourself to just a few useful tips.

  • It is necessary to water the culture in moderation, it is impossible for everything to float in the water. A couple of times a week is enough to support all the necessary processes. However, as soon as the tomatoes begin to form, the water supply should be increased.

  • 7 days after planting, the seedlings are given a portion of nitrogenous dressings. The formation of inflorescences means that it is time to feed the tomatoes with mineral compounds. Every 14 days during fruiting, the soil is flavored with phosphorus and potassium.

  • To prevent the planting from becoming an impenetrable thicket, you will have to worry about your stepsons. It is better to cut them off immediately, until they have grown and began to consume the plant's strength. In addition, each bush must be tied up, since its growth is considerable, like the weight of the tomatoes. It is recommended to form in 1 stem, maximum 2. Note that when forming in 2 stems, the distance between the bushes should be large.

Disease and pest resistance

Bison black shows excellent resistance to tobacco mosaic virus. However, with improper care, the following ailments can befall him:

  • late blight;

  • brown spotting;

  • rot.

Among insects, whiteflies and a bear can often be seen.

To prevent the plants from having to undergo long and difficult treatment, remember the following:

  • crop rotation;

  • keeping the site clean;

  • regular ventilation;

  • spring digging;

  • disinfection of seeds, soil, and greenhouse walls;

  • the use of clean tools;

  • preventive treatments.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist.In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Review overview

Gardeners who like to grow tomatoes have long turned their attention to the Black Bison variety. And the point here is not only easy care and the extraordinary color of the fruits, but also their amazing taste. There is no person who would not like him. Tomatoes of this variety are especially good fresh, they are eaten just like that or in salads. You can make juice, pasta, or lecho.

The only complaint is that it will not be possible to keep the tomatoes fresh for a long time. However, it is natural that summer residents already know in advance the properties of the culture they are going to grow. And this means that they are familiar with such a feature of the variety and will not complain too much about it.
