Tomatoes are distinguished by their unpretentious care. These mid-early varieties include tomato Alphonse. In the article, we will consider the main characteristics of the variety, the taste of fruits, yield, ripening times and agrotechnical aspects.

Breeding history

Tomato Alphonse belongs to hybrid crops and is considered a very young variety. It was first introduced to the market in 2020, so it has not yet gained wide popularity. Breeders classify the crop as cherry tomatoes, while the variety has a universal purpose.

The culture can be found under the name tomato Alphonse F1, stands for a hybrid of the first generation.

The breeders stated that the crop can be grown both in the open field and in greenhouses.

Description of the variety

Tomato bushes Alphonse are determinant, that is, the plant reaches a certain mark, after which it stops growing. Stems are compact, small, up to 1 m long. 3 stems are formed on one seedling.

The leaves are medium, dark green in color, somewhat reminiscent of the tops of potatoes. There are not many of them on the bush, so active removal of sheets is not required.

The first peduncles are formed after 6 leaves from the ground level. Further formation of flowers occurs every 2 leaves.

The active growth of stepchildren does not occur, so there is no need to pinch them.

The advantages include:

  • transportability;

  • appearance;

  • universal purpose;

  • can be grown in any region;

  • unpretentiousness in soil and care.

The disadvantages are:

  • tying to a support;

  • high yield occurs only in greenhouses;

  • reproduction by seeds.

The main qualities of the fruit

Fruits are plum-shaped, slightly oblong, not too large. The weight of one tomato is 30-40 g. Unripe tomatoes are of a green-yellow hue, when fully ripe, they are deep red.

The skin is of medium density, smooth, without noticeable ribbing. When heat treated, it will burst, so many gardeners do not recommend this variety for canning.

The pulp is juicy and fleshy, the inside is bright pink. The number of chambers is from 2 to 4, large fruits may have more chambers. There is a high dry matter content.

From 8 to 15 fruits ripen on one bunch.

Taste characteristics

Good taste and sweet aftertaste are noted. Tomatoes are ideal for fresh consumption, for making juices, sauces, mashed potatoes and freezing.

Ripening and fruiting

The variety belongs to medium early crops. The ripening period of fruits is 100-110 days, in the southern regions the date can be shifted and be 90-100 days. Harvesting begins in early July and lasts until August 20.

Yield

The yield of tomato Alphonse is high, but the indicators for open and closed ground are different. In greenhouses, indicators reach 20 kg per 1 m2, and in open areas - only 15 kg per 1 m2.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

The sowing date for this variety is individual for each region. For the southern climate, this is the end of February - the beginning of March, for the northern latitudes, the last days of March.

Before sowing, special boxes or containers are prepared.At this time, the purchased seeds should be soaked in raw cotton wool. Soaking lasts until the seeds hatch.

Then, in the prepared boxes, pits are formed, the depth of which is no more than 2 cm, the distance between the holes is 2 cm, between the rows - 3 cm. Each seed should be carefully placed in the hole so as not to damage the root. Further, everything is leveled with the ground and covered with cling film.

The boxes are removed in a warm place with a temperature of +23 degrees. The film on the boxes is periodically removed. At this time, seedlings are sprayed with water through a spray bottle, which should hatch in a week.

Diving occurs at the moment when the stem becomes strong and gives the first 2-3 leaves. After transplanting the seedlings into individual pots, you can put them on the windowsills. It is worth remembering that if you stay in direct sunlight for a long time, the leaves of the seedlings can burn.

It is worth feeding the seedlings with liquid fertilizers.

In early May, when the air temperature warms up to +13, the seedlings can be gradually taken outside for acclimatization. The planting of bushes should take place in the evening at a daily temperature of at least +16 degrees.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The selected area for future bushes is dug up in advance, it is best to do this in the fall. At this point, you can add minerals - both organic and chemical. During the winter period, the earth will rest, be saturated with useful substances.

Before planting, the soil is spilled abundantly, and it must be given a little time to dry out. Then the holes and pegs for tying are harvested. Pits are dug up to a depth of no more than 30-40 cm due to the compactness of the root system.

Many gardeners note that no more than 8 bushes should be planted per 1 m2. This will ensure normal growth, ease of maintenance and subsequent harvest.

After planting, the seedlings are spilled with warm, settled water, one watering can for 2-3 bushes.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

In order for the seedlings to give a good harvest, some agrotechnical points should be observed.

In hot weather, seedlings should be watered 3 times a week. Watering takes place in the evening with warm water. Since the sun is already less active, the bushes will not get burned.

It is best to feed the tomatoes with organic fertilizers. Top dressing should be done every 2 weeks.

Weeds should be removed in a timely manner. If possible, mulch is laid out around the bushes.

As it grows, it is necessary to tie the seedling to a support, because during the formation of the fruit, the stem will begin to actively lean to the ground under the weight of its weight.

Extra stepsons should be removed. In total, 3 stems should be left on one bush.

In the greenhouse, it is important to maintain a temperature of no more than +30 degrees, strong drafts and sudden temperature changes are not allowed (important for open ground).

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety.In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

Tomato Alphonse may be susceptible to whitefly infestation. Most often they are on the leaves, as they feed on their juice. In order to avoid the appearance of pests such as whitefly or spider mites, it is worthwhile to carry out timely preventive spraying of the bushes. It can be both chemical agents (any fungicides) and folk remedies (Fitoverm).

Processing by any means is carried out in the evening. The weather should be dry and calm. If the treatment was using chemicals, then the crop should be harvested after 2 weeks, after spilling all the bushes.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.
