  2. Tools and materials
  3. Construction stages

Every person who has a private house or summer cottage loves to cook various dishes on the grill. Today, there is a huge number of different options for it: stationary, portable, with a roof, made of steel or brick, with a built-in smokehouse, of various shapes and designs - in the classical direction or in the Art Nouveau style. Round barbecues made of brick or stone are very popular. Such products have a very beautiful and original appearance and fit perfectly into the overall design of the site.

Another plus of such barbecues is that you can easily make them yourself with your own hands.

Choosing a suitable place

When choosing a place on your site where a stone barbecue will be located, do not forget about safety when using it.

It is best to place the structure in the backyard, while making sure to take into account the following important points:

  • the structure must be located on a flat piece of land;
  • to build a barbecue, you will need about 2 square meters of free space;
  • the brazier should be located no closer than 5 meters from any other buildings;
  • if there is such an opportunity, it is best to install the barbecue in the visibility zone from the windows of the house;
  • the area next to the barbecue must be laid out with paving slabs.

Tools and materials

To create a round barbecue, you will need:

  • shovels - bayonet and shovel;
  • construction mixer or concrete mixer;
  • measuring instruments;
  • Bulgarian;
  • tools for laying stones (bucket, spatula, pickaxe);
  • stone or brick (it is best to use a refractory material, red fired brick is perfect).

Construction stages

Foundation

All structures made of stone or brick, including barbecues, must be built on a solid foundation.

When creating the foundation, you must adhere to certain instructions.

  • The excavated pit should not be too large. The depth should be about half a meter.
  • The bottom must be filled with sand and tamped, the thickness of the sand layer should be about 10 cm. In order to compact this layer as well as possible, it can be watered with water.
  • On top of the sand cushion, the foundation pit should be covered with a layer of large crushed stone or rubble stone. The thickness of this layer should be about 30 cm.
  • Formwork of any planks or plywood should be installed along the walls of the pit, the height of the formwork is about 10 cm.
  • After that, it is necessary to prepare a concrete solution - mix sand and cement in proportions of 3: 1, also add water and crushed stone.
  • The resulting solution can be poured into the formwork. After it hardens, a reinforcing mesh is laid, on top of which the entire remainder of the solution is poured.
  • It is best to cover the finished foundation with plastic wrap and leave to harden for several weeks.

Basement part

In order to start building a brick base, you should prepare a mortar for masonry. It is necessary to mix cement with sand in proportions 1: 4, and then mix the composition until a completely homogeneous structure is obtained.

  • To prevent moisture ingress, you should take care of waterproofing - lay roofing material in several layers.
  • The very first row of the plinth must be solid.
  • If the size of the barbecue does not exceed 1 meter, then the laying can be carried out in half a brick. If you plan to build a large brazier, the thickness of the masonry should be a whole brick.

Hearth

When the basement part is created, it is necessary to lay a countertop on it - a concrete slab, and after that you can make a hearth.

  • Prepare a plastic solution, for which you need to soak the clay for several days, then add sand to it and mix thoroughly to get a mixture that resembles thick dough in consistency.
  • The brick must be laid in such a way that the hot coals do not reach the concrete slab.
  • The front wall should be approximately 30 cm thick and 50 cm high. To provide air access to the brazier, several small holes can be provided in the walls.

Chimney

The final stage in creating a barbecue will be the installation of a chimney. This process can be started after the solution previously used for laying the hearth has completely solidified. The chimney should be created using heat-resistant fireclay bricks, since this structure will be located in a zone of high temperatures.

When creating a chimney, the following nuances must be taken into account:

  • it is necessary to install metal corners with a cross section of more than 5x5 cm to compensate for the large weight of the chimney;
  • the receiving hood must be in the form of a hemisphere;
  • the height of the pipe should not exceed 3 meters - this way, natural draft will be ensured.

We can safely conclude that building a round brick brazier on your site is within the power of everyone., and it is quite possible to do the work completely independently. The construction will take several weeks, however, the result of the work will delight you for many years, making it possible to arrange wonderful family barbecues on the site. Having built such a grill, you can cook not only baked meat, fish and vegetables, but also a variety of charcoal dishes in a cauldron under a lid.
