Most owners of a house or summer cottage are wondering which fence to choose for the site is better. The blinds fence is a hit at the moment. The unusual design and features of its operation are attracting more and more attention to the product. Like any design, such a fence has both positive and negative sides.

Advantages and disadvantages

A jalousie fence is a structure of supports and lamellas - narrow strips of wood or metal. They allow light to penetrate into the area, which has a positive effect on both plants and the general atmosphere.

Its advantages also include the following:

  • Good protective function. Such a structure looks quite powerful and sturdy, plus it is quite tall. This prevents unwanted guests from entering the site;
  • The availability of air and its circulation on the site, which also has a positive effect on vegetation;
  • Attractive appearance. Today, manufacturers produce both wooden and metal fences with a variety of textures and colors;
  • Affordable price. Depending on the country of origin and material, you can choose a budget or more expensive version of the product;
  • Long service life. The average duration is about 10 years. As a rule, such a fence does not need additional maintenance during this time;
  • It has good sound insulation. Despite the fact that the lamellas are loosely adjacent to each other, this does not prevent them from "trapping" the noise and absorbing it;
  • Easy assembly and disassembly of the product. It is easy to install it yourself, without the help of specialists.

This type of fencing has no obvious drawbacks.

Some in the reviews note as a disadvantage the fact that the fence does not fully protect against unnecessary glances and small insects and rodents.

It is important to note that such constructions must be used in the following situations:

  • The desire to observe everything that happens around the site. It is especially advisable to use it when a child or a pet is walking behind the fence;
  • Finding the site and residential buildings in the wetland. For such a site, ventilation is important to dry out the soil;
  • High humidity area. Due to the leaky intake, the air circulates and does not stagnate (greenhouse effect);
  • Plot with densely planted trees and shrubs. The penetration of light and air will allow plants and trees to grow fruitfully.

The variety of products will allow you to choose it to any style of the house and plot.

Depending on the location of the lamellas, a fence is distinguished:

  • Horizontal;
  • Vertical.

Horizontal stripes allow you to visually correct an area (for example, long or narrow). They also, as well as vertical slats, let air through well. True, vertical ones better protect against noise and loud sounds. Otherwise, there are no significant differences between them.

Depending on the material of manufacture, the fence is metal and wood.

The metal construction has a rather high price, but the quality is significantly superior to products from other materials.

Its advantages also include:

  • Long service life;
  • Resistant to high temperatures and increased fire resistance. It does not catch fire, therefore experts recommend installing it in areas where high temperatures prevail, hot and dry climate;
  • A variety of colors and textures, which gives the fence an aesthetic and noble look. You can make a product to order in any shape and color. Thanks to this feature, it will harmoniously fit into any terrain;
  • Easy and quick assembly and disassembly of the product;
  • Increased resistance to mechanical stress. Basically, such sections are made of galvanized steel, which is coated with polymers. The edged frames for such sections are made of shaped pipes, which gives the product even greater strength and reliability;
  • Stability. The metal structure will be able to withstand both a hurricane and a wind if it is installed correctly;
  • The lightness of the product. Metal sections are not as heavy as it might seem at first glance;
  • No additional finishing or special protection against fungi, mold or bacteria is required.

The wooden fence looks more organic in the natural landscape and will fit into any style of the house and plot.

Another pluses of a wooden fence include:

  • Aesthetic appearance. The tree itself is a beautiful enclosure without additional coloring. If desired, you can easily repaint it in any color, create drawings or visually another texture;
  • Security. Wood is one of the most environmentally friendly materials. He does not emit harmful vapors, which is an important factor when choosing, especially if there are children on the site;
  • Does not inhibit plant growth. This design does not shade them and allows enough light to pass through;
  • Easy installation. As a rule, such a fence is made in sections that are installed on poles. The weight of the sections is small, so many people install the fence on their own;
  • Low price. Since wood does not belong to expensive or unique materials, the price for it will be much lower than other fences.

Many experts, in order to reduce the cost of goods, recommend purchasing a fence made of freshly sawn wood. There is one drawback of this choice - there is no guarantee that after drying the lamellas do not deform and cracks and chips do not appear. It is noted that a fence made of wooden slats does not last as long as a metal structure, and it also requires special care and constant processing.

Since parts of both wooden and metal fences are sold in ready-made sections, you can install it yourself.

Installation and maintenance

The main characteristics of the fence allow you to install it yourself, since the section size is 2x2 m, and the height can reach from 1.5 to 2 m. The distance of the lamellas varies from 15 to 20 mm, and you can choose them yourself. For sections located near a highway, railroad, or public places, sections with denser lanes should be selected.

In order to put up a fence, you must adhere to the following steps:

  • Choose the most comfortable distance for installing the support pillars. After that, place signs visible from afar in the selected places (a flag with bright matter, a high stick);
  • Dig holes with a drill or manually with a shovel.
  • For strength, it is necessary to concrete the pillars. To do this, sand and crushed stone are poured at the bottom of the pit, then a pillar (metal, brick structure, wooden) is installed and poured with concrete. In conclusion, it is necessary to let the concrete grab for several hours;
  • Metal posts must be protected against corrosion. For this, the lower fragment of the pillar is wrapped in roofing material. And for the durability of wooden pillars, special caps should be installed that will protect them from rain and snow, since with constant wetting, the wooden pillars will lose their appearance and the service life will be reduced. To extend the service life of such a support, it is also recommended to treat the part that is placed in the ground with an antiseptic.Or use roofing material, as for metal supports;
  • When installing the poles, it is necessary to take into account the weight of the total opening and the density of the soil. In dense soil, the pillar is installed at 1 meter, and on looser soil - at 1.5 m;
  • Installation of sections using fasteners, bolts, which are included in the package. Metal sections on similar posts can be welded using a welding machine and special fasteners;
  • Installation of the wicket and additional components is carried out in the same way as the gaps. The difference is that you need to purchase the fasteners yourself.

In order for the fence to please for many years, proper care is necessary for it:

  • Timely painting of the lamella surface. For metal, it will take once every 2-3 years, and for wood more often - once a year. Plus, wooden coatings must be treated with a special solution to prevent moisture and deformation, as well as from the appearance of insects, mold and fungi in them. Impregnation can be chosen as a complex one, which copes with all the problems, and aimed at eliminating one problem;

  • Before painting, metal sections must be degreased and primed. And to prevent rust, they should be covered with a special solution. To remove old paint and degrease by hand, you will need a special brush and solvent. In more difficult cases, firing may be necessary. Then the surface should be plastered;

  • The choice of paint. For metal sections, it is better to choose a color similar to the previous paint. If a new color is chosen, then you must first paint a small and inconspicuous area on the surface. After the paint has dried, you should look at the reaction. If there are no cracks, bubbles, then the paint is suitable and the entire fence can be painted;

  • Thorough inspection of the connecting system and fasteners. If necessary, lubricate them with an oil solution;
  • Cleaning the surface from dust and dirt. In this case, the best assistant will be a hose with water. It will only be necessary to direct a strong pressure of water to the fence.

By installing such a fence, the buyer receives an original designed area that is protected from prying eyes.

At the same time, the shutter fence does not interfere with the penetration of light and air, which has a positive effect on the growth and development of plantations.
