Wood harvesting is associated mostly with axes and chainsaws. But other equipment can also be used for this purpose. For example, a mounted wood splitter on an MTZ tractor.

Peculiarities

Hydraulic wood splitters are successfully operated on tractors of not only this, but also any other brand. This type of attachment is much more convenient than hand tools.

The principle of operation is approximately the same:

  • the log is placed in the chute exactly opposite the knife;
  • the hydraulic system drives the piston;
  • the pressure exerted by the piston pushes the log or knife forward;
  • as a result, the wood is split into pieces.

Varieties of systems

The main classification is by area of use. Some versions are powerful enough that they can be used in industrial logging. Others are only suitable for household use. There is also a division according to the method of placing logs.

It can be put:

  • horizontally;
  • vertically;
  • in both ways (depending on the wishes of the consumer).

Much more important, however, is the division according to the type of motor used. In domestic conditions, tractor wood splitters with gasoline or diesel engines are often used.

Electrical patterns are relatively rare. Professionals generally prefer devices with combined traction. The splitting of logs also occurs in different ways: in a number of structures, instead of a knife that carries out cutting, a screw-in cone is used.

How to choose the right fixture?

The focus should be on the hydraulic press. The force generated by such a press varies from 3000 to 8000 kg. Of course, the larger it is, the larger and harder the workpieces can be split into pieces. But a very powerful press can only be driven by a sufficiently serious motor. It is also useful to consider which auxiliary attachments can be used.

The Uralets screw wood splitter can bring very good results. According to the manufacturer, this development was created using innovative technologies. Even when harvesting a large amount of firewood, relatively little effort is expended.

Rack splitters, note, are simpler than screw, but also more dangerous when used. We must also take into account the mass of the device and the type of its fastening.

With regard to the level of pressure on the workpiece, in domestic conditions, a force of 4000 to 6000 kg is quite sufficient. Noticeably more pressure is required only in large logging operations. The horizontal stroke of the cleaver is preferable to the vertical one because of its greater practicality and safety. However, such a device clearly takes up more space.... It is worth remembering about the limitation on the maximum size of the split logs, which is observed even when installing a wood splitter on the MTZ 80/82.

You can also choose a mounted log splitter for a mini-tractor. As practice shows, this combination is much more effective than a simple cleaver.... A set of fasteners supplied with the wood splitter is attached to the hinge. After installing them, all that remains is to put the taper screw on the power take-off shaft. This screw is bolted ... and the unit is ready to go.

But if you still return to the choice of a wood splitter for a full-fledged tractor, it is worth again focusing on the cone models. There is no point in purchasing industrial devices for everyday use.They are only effective where there is a lot of work to be done.

To save as much as possible, mechanical structures are usually purchased. They separate the logs, previously exposed on a steel frame.

The pace of work is several times higher than when cutting with an ax. However, in comparison with other models of wood splitter, these systems are the least productive. The only positive aspects of using them are their low cost and ease of assembly.

The conical screw apparatus (on average more productive) got its name from the specific configuration of the main working part.

High-quality cone wood splitters have the following parameters:

  • the gap from the wedge to the piston is 50 cm;
  • splitting force - from 5000 to 7000 kg;
  • torsion speed of the working part - minimum 400 and maximum 600 turns per minute;
  • mandatory limitation of the stroke (allowing to increase productivity and at the same time reduce energy costs);
  • elaborate splitting screw geometry.

These characteristics must, of course, also be observed on self-assembled wood splitting machines. Important: a splitting screw cannot be made at home - the required metal hardening mode can be implemented exclusively at metallurgical plants.

Since the tractors have powerful motors, improved wood splitters can be used. They are complemented by mechanical wood feed devices, and sometimes by pre-sawing complexes.

Since tractor wood splitters are often used in large logging, it is worth taking a closer look at models with a working length of 100 cm. But the diameter of the workpieces to be processed in the cone system is limited only by the size of the bed. In hydraulic devices, it is most often 30 cm. It is important to remember that the return stroke of the piston should not exceed 7 or 8 cm per second. And one more recommendation: when selecting a finished model, you must definitely check the reviews about it.
