In order for roses to bloom in the new season, it is necessary to free them from winter shelters in a timely manner. This must be done on time, since earlier and later opening can lead not only to a lack of flowers, but also to the death of an ornamental plant. Timing differs depending on the region, plant variety, as well as some other features.

What should be the temperature?

The first thing to be guided by in this matter is the air temperature. Roses are afraid of frost, so the main condition is that the air temperature during the day and at night does not fall below 0 degrees. It is recommended to monitor indicators on a thermometer for several days. It is necessary to measure the air temperature in the morning, afternoon, evening and, if possible, at night. It is important that the thermometer is located as close to the ground as possible.

To open roses after winter, a stable temperature of +5 degrees Celsius is enough. If it is warm during the day, but there is ice on the puddles in the morning, then it is better to postpone the opening of the rose bushes. Even minor frosts can spoil an ornamental plant.

How do you determine what to disclose?

Before opening roses, it is recommended to check whether the soil has thawed or not. For this purpose, you can use the simplest garden tool - a shovel or a pitchfork. You need to try to stick the selected tool onto the bayonet. If it enters the soil with ease, then it has already thawed.

If the shovel or pitchfork is difficult to stick into the surface of the ground, it is still sufficiently frozen. It is not recommended to open roses in this case. You may need to wait a few more days.

There are also folk signs. One of them says that you can open roses only after the so-called earrings begin to appear on the birches. If the birches have revived, it means that the soil has already warmed up enough.

You can shine a lantern on the ground at night. If a characteristic shine is visually noticeable, then there is frost on the soil surface. It's too early to open the roses. In this case, you need to wait a few more days or even weeks.

Terms taking into account the region

Of course, a lot depends on the growing region. In the south, spring comes much earlier than in the middle lane or in the northern regions. The opening times for different regions are approximately as follows.

  1. In the southern regions, which include the Krasnodar Territory, Voronezh Region, Astrakhan and some others, can be opened in mid-March. But even in the south, you need to focus on the air temperature, since the weather is different every year.
  2. In central Russia, which includes the Moscow region, roses are recommended to be opened in the second half of April. If the spring is late, then you can wait until the beginning of May.
  3. In the Urals, the Far East, in Siberia in the first half of spring it is still quite cold, in some areas the land is generally covered with snow. Of course, in this case, it is in no way possible to get rid of roses. You can do shrubs only in mid or late May.

Of course, all terms are approximate. First of all, you need to focus on specific weather conditions.

When to open considering the variety?

If there are roses of different varieties on the garden plot, then they should be opened gradually. The first to get rid of winter shelters are frost-resistant varieties. These include "William Shakespeare", "Westerland" and some others. They are suitable for growing in Siberia, the Urals, as well as in the Moscow region and the Leningrad region.

"Chippendale", "Leonardo da Vinci", "Dolce Vita", "Vivienne Westwood" and some other roses, which have identical characteristics, are thermophilic, therefore, even from a slight decrease in temperature, they may well get sick or die. They should be opened last when the warm weather has finally settled.

Regardless of the type of ornamental plant, it is recommended to open it in several stages. Flowers are very sensitive, so any sudden change in conditions negatively affects the general condition, weakens the immune system. When the snow is still on the ground, it is recommended to make small cuts in the covering material. This is necessary so that the flowers begin to wake up little by little.

It is recommended to remove the remaining snow from the place where the rose bushes are located. As a protection, it is no longer needed, but when it melts, it will give a large amount of water that will harm the roses. Under the influence of sunlight, snow melts and turns into water, which then penetrates into the ground. During frosts, the water freezes, which is why the shrubs themselves can support. Snow should be removed as far as possible.

Next, you need to follow several sequential steps.

  1. Raise the cover slightly on the sides to start the air exchange process. The procedure can be carried out only if the air temperature warms up to +15 degrees in the daytime, and insignificant frosts are still permissible in the evening and at night.
  2. It is very important that the rose garden is in the shade, since the sun is very active in spring. If the rays are constantly hitting the shelter, the bushes will begin to germinate gradually. Due to the fact that the roots are still in the frozen soil, the sprouts will wither and no longer grow. To prevent this from happening, you can equip some kind of artificial shading.
  3. When the air and soil are thoroughly warmed up, you can safely open the rose bushes completely. To do this, it is recommended to choose a cloudy day so as not to burn young shoots under the bright sun.

If the rose garden was spud in the fall, it is necessary to remove the soil in two steps. At the first stage, only the top layer is uncooked, and then the hillock is removed from the bottom.

After the shelters are completely removed, it is necessary to properly care for the bushes. Initially, they need to be treated with special preparations that prevent the appearance of gray rot and infectious burns. The best option would be funds that contain copper. The solution must be poured into a special spray bottle, and then sprayed.

After a while, additional treatment with fungicides is required. It is highly not recommended to skip this stage, since such preparations are necessary to prevent pest attacks and the manifestation of various diseases.

After the shoots have been opened and sprayed, they will need a few more days to air. After that, it's time to do spring pruning of roses.

The key to the beautiful appearance of roses is not only proper care, but also timely release from a warm shelter in spring. If you are late with this process, the shrubs can simply mate. In addition, shoots will begin to grow directly under the shelter and will soon die.

An early discovery does not bode well either. The shoots can freeze, as in March and April, in some regions, there are rather strong frosts. It is noteworthy that it is enough for pink shrubs to freeze once in order to die.

But even if the plant does not die, it will hurt all summer. To prevent this from happening, it is very important to accurately determine the time to eliminate the winter shelter.
