To choose the ideal variety for yourself, you need to know not only brief characteristics, but also complete data on how to grow it correctly. White cabbage Tobia is grown in any region of Russia. The culture is unpretentious to care for, so it is suitable for both novice gardeners and those who have already tried growing cabbage.

Breeding history

Tobia cabbage is the development of Dutch breeders. The international variety name is Tobia. The hybrid appeared in 2005. It was brought to the territory of Russia in 2006, and in 2007 it was approved for use and entered in the State Register.

Description of the variety

The crop is intended for outdoor cultivation. The main feature of the variety is that breeders bred it specifically for mass production. Therefore, cabbage has a special shape and arrangement of leaves so that it is possible to pick it not only by hand, but also by machine.

Among other positive aspects, it is noted that the heads of cabbage do not crack, even the most overripe heads.

The crop has good indicators of transportability, as well as yield.

The Tobia hybrid has a stable immunity to fungal diseases.

Among the disadvantages is the fact that the variety has a short fresh shelf life. This is approximately 3-4 months.

When irrigating, the intensity must be observed, because some of the leaves are too close to the soil. Over-watering can cause foliage to become sick or rot.

Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and heads of cabbage

The socket is raised, the bush is compact. Leaves are medium in size, dark green in color. There is a waxy coating and slight blistering on the leaf surface. Veins on the plate are small, not coarse, barely perceptible. The edges are slightly wavy. The outer stump is short.

A head of cabbage is rounded, weighing 1.8-3 kg. Outside, the color is green, in the context - whitish. The density is 4.1 points. Internal stump of medium length.

Purpose and taste

There is a pleasant sweet taste without pronounced bitterness. In addition to the necessary trace elements, the juice contains a number of vitamins that are beneficial to the body.

Cabbage has a universal purpose, therefore it is suitable for fresh consumption, preparation of various dishes, soups and salads. And also the vegetable can be fermented, stewed, frozen and canned.

Ripening terms

Tobia cabbage belongs to mid-season crops. The period from germination to technical ripeness is 80-85 days. Harvesting occurs in August-September.

Yield

Since the variety was bred for mass production, its yield is quite high. On average, from 1 hectare you can rent from 322 to 760 centners. On the scale of one site, 5 to 10 kg are removed from 1 m2.

Growing regions

According to the originators, the best regions for growing crops are:

  • Central;

  • Volgo-Vyatsky;

  • West Siberian;

  • Ural;

  • East Siberian;

  • Northwestern;

  • Middle Volga.

Growing and care

Cabbage is grown in seedlings. For this, it is necessary to prepare containers and land. It is best to choose loose soil. Store primer is ideal. Self-harvesting of land is also acceptable, but on condition that humus, peat and sand are added to it.

The boxes must be prepared low, their depth should be at least 6 cm. The earth can be treated with a manganese solution, or calcined in the oven.

The soil is harvested 2 weeks before sowing.

The seed needs proper processing. First, the seeds are collected. This can be a manual method, when only large seeds are selected, or dipping into water (empty seeds remain on the surface).

Then the hardening process takes place. All seeds are wrapped in a gauze bag and immersed in hot water for 15-20 minutes. Next, the bag is dipped in cold water.

After the seeds are dry, they must be processed. The seed must be dipped in a manganese solution.

Usually, Tobia cabbage is grown without picking. Just use small peat pots. This method is safe, and the root system of the seedlings is not injured.

The seeds are deepened by 1 cm.And if they are grown in a seedling box, then the step between the holes is 3 cm.

It is necessary to transplant a culture to a permanent place at the age of 35-40 days. At this moment, 5-7 strong true leaves should be formed.

The place for cabbage should be well lit by the sun, because a short daylight hours can adversely affect the harvest.

The site is prepared in advance, the holes are formed immediately after digging up the earth. The planting pattern is 60x60 cm. It is necessary to deepen into the ground until the first true leaf.

The peculiarity of agricultural technology will be as follows:

  • correct watering regime (1-2 times a week);

  • top dressing (3 times per season);

  • loosening the soil and removing weeds;

  • preventive spraying of soil and bushes.

To grow a rich cabbage crop, you need to know when and how to plant this crop outdoors. Planting dates are determined depending on the variety. It is also necessary to properly prepare the soil and follow the rules of crop rotation.

Proper watering is a prerequisite for agricultural technology when growing cabbage. This vegetable crop prefers regular watering, the frequency of which depends on weather conditions, soil composition, cabbage variety and other characteristics.
Cabbage, like many other vegetables, needs regular hilling. This procedure performs several functions at once: it makes the plants stronger, protects the crop from diseases and pests, retains moisture in the soil, and increases the yield of the crop.

Cabbage requires particularly careful care when growing. The plant quickly absorbs nutrients, so the soil needs to be enriched regularly. Adequate amounts of minerals, organics and nitrogen must be provided. Some products can be purchased at the store, while others are easy to make at home.

Cabbage is a very popular horticultural crop. But growing a good, large and tasty cabbage is sometimes very difficult, because it is often affected by a huge number of diseases and pests. The main role in the cultivation of this vegetable is played by regular prevention, which helps to get a rich harvest, and prevent the occurrence of diseases and the invasion of harmful insects. It is very important to start treatment as early as possible, otherwise there is a risk of spreading the infection to still unaffected plants.

Observance of simple conditions will help to save cabbage until the new harvest: the choice of a suitable variety, the correct preparation of the vegetable, maintaining the optimum temperature and humidity in the room.
