White cabbage is one of the most popular vegetables among summer residents. Krautman cabbage has a good yield, excellent taste, and also a beautiful appearance.

Breeding history

Krautman cabbage is a hybrid of white cabbage varieties. In Russia, the seeds are presented by the Dutch company Bejo Zaden V. V. After passing all the necessary tests, the culture was entered into the State Register in 1993, and in the same year it was allowed for mass use.

Since the variety is Dutch, it can also be found under the other name Krautman.

Description of the variety

The culture is universal, so it can be grown both in the open field and covered with agrofibre, creating a greenhouse.

Krautman cabbage has many positive aspects, which gardeners often note. These include light maintenance work, while the head of cabbage can not be cut for a long time, and the cabbage will not rot. Many summer residents harvest cabbage after the first frost.

High palatability is noted, as well as the juiciness of the whole head of cabbage and its leaves. Cabbage has high storage rates - from 4 to 5 months in a dark and cool place. These characteristics make it possible to transport the vegetable over long distances.

The variety has good immunity to fungal diseases.

Heads of cabbage ripen together and at the same time. This minimizes the time spent on collection and preparation for winter storage.

Yields are not affected by weather conditions or sudden temperature changes.

Among the minuses, it can be noted that cabbage is very demanding on the place of cultivation, as well as on regular watering.

Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and heads of cabbage

The rosette of cabbage leaves is raised and very compact. Leaves are medium in size. Green color. The leaf plate is finely wrinkled with a rich waxy bloom. The edges are smooth and even. The bottom sheets can twist out over time.

Outer and inner stalk - standard, medium length.

The head of cabbage is formed of a round shape, dense, with a fine internal texture and without voids, half-covered. The weight of the vegetable is from 1.1 to 4 kg. Cabbage ranges in size from medium to large. The color outside and inside is white.

The fork is resistant to cracking.

Purpose and taste

Krautman cabbage has a table purpose. It can be eaten fresh, used for making soups and as a side dish. Cabbage lends itself well to fermentation and tolerates any kind of processing. And also it can be frozen.

Vegetables taste sweet. It contains high levels of vitamins A and C, as well as useful minerals.

Total dry matter in the head of cabbage is 7.4%. The total share of sugar is 4.1%. Ascorbic acid per 100 g - 46.2 mg.

Ripening terms

The culture is mid-season. The growing season takes 120-140 days. Harvesting occurs in August-September.

Yield

With proper care, up to 9 kg can be removed from 1 m2. On an industrial scale, this figure is on average 307-926 centners per hectare. These indicators indicate that the variety is high yielding.

Growing regions

Krautman cabbage can be grown in any region. In warmer climates, cabbage is easiest to germinate; in colder climates, more care will be required.

Common growing regions:

  • TsCHO;

  • Central;

  • Volgo-Vyatsky;

  • Northern;

  • Uralsky.

Growing and care

Cabbage is grown by seed.

Some gardeners purchase ready-made seedlings from nurseries or from the market. But many summer residents are engaged in cultivation on their own.

In order to germinate a crop, it is necessary to prepare seedling boxes and seed.

In the southern regions, seeds can be planted in the soil, provided that the ground warms up to a temperature of + 18 ° C. In other cases, seedlings must be used.

Sowing seeds is carried out in April. Containers should be rinsed, processed and dried. Make sure that there is a drainage system and ventilation holes in the tank.

It is best to choose wooden or plastic boxes.

The primer is best calcined in the oven before use. After that, the soil can be treated with potassium permanganate.

The seeds are soaked in water before planting, and then they are also treated (with potassium permanganate or potassium permanganate solution). Before sowing, the material can be soaked for a while in growth stimulants.

Seedling boxes are covered with soil approximately half. The grooves should be made no more than 1.5 cm deep. The distance between the seeds should be 3-4 cm.

After sowing, everything is watered abundantly with water, and the earth is slightly compacted. From above, the seedling boxes are covered with foil or glass. Then they should be removed to a warm place.

You need to dive cabbage after 2 sheets appear. The pick is carried out in separate pots.

The selected area should be well lit, but not too open so that the cabbage does not get burned. And also there should be no strong drafts and a large accumulation of water.

Disembarkation takes place in late May or early June. The seating scheme should be 60x50 cm. The work algorithm will be as follows.

  • The holes are dug out and then spilled abundantly with water. If necessary, you can pour in granules of growth stimulants.

  • The seedlings are lowered into a hole and covered with earth up to the first pair of leaves.

  • The hole is covered with earth and compacted. After the seedlings, you need to spill a little water.

Consider the aftercare of your cabbage.

  • Watering. Krautman cabbage is very fond of water. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out irrigation on an ongoing basis. Watering is best done with warm, settled water. You cannot use cold water from a column or well. There are about 1.5 buckets of water per 1 m2. The procedure is performed every 2-3 days. In dry weather, the amount of watering increases.

  • Top dressing. Carried out 2-3 weeks after disembarkation. The second is best done in a month. Mullein solution is used as top dressing.

  • Loosening is carried out after each watering. This is necessary in order to supply oxygen to the soil and the root system of the cabbage. It is best to loosen at a depth of no more than 5 cm.

To grow a rich cabbage crop, you need to know when and how to plant this crop outdoors. Planting dates are determined depending on the variety. It is also necessary to properly prepare the soil and follow the rules of crop rotation.

Proper watering is a prerequisite for agricultural technology when growing cabbage. This vegetable crop prefers regular watering, the frequency of which depends on weather conditions, soil composition, cabbage variety and other characteristics.
Cabbage, like many other vegetables, needs regular hilling. This procedure performs several functions at once: it makes the plants stronger, protects the crop from diseases and pests, retains moisture in the soil, and increases the yield of the crop.

Cabbage requires particularly careful care when growing. The plant quickly absorbs nutrients, so the soil needs to be enriched regularly. Adequate amounts of minerals, organics and nitrogen must be provided. Some products can be purchased at the store, while others are easy to make at home.

Disease and pest resistance

Krautman cabbage is famous for its immune system. But if the culture is improperly looked after or the norms of agricultural technology are neglected, then favorable conditions appear for the appearance of pests or bacteria.

The variety is more often attacked by the black leg. This is due to the fact that the irrigation schedule is not followed, and the soil is too waterlogged. The disease can be identified by the fact that the root system begins to rot, and the leaves lose their color and wither.

Keel disease is also dangerous for the culture. This is a very tricky disease that cannot be detected in the early stages. It spreads only along the rhizome. Growths and swellings begin to form on it. All this prevents the extraction of useful minerals from the earth, and the growth of cabbage stops.

Cabbage is a very popular horticultural crop. But growing a good, large and tasty cabbage is sometimes very difficult, because it is often affected by a huge number of diseases and pests. The main role in the cultivation of this vegetable is played by regular prevention, which helps to get a rich harvest, and prevent the occurrence of diseases and the invasion of harmful insects. It is very important to start treatment as early as possible, otherwise there is a risk of spreading the infection to still unaffected plants.

Observance of simple conditions will help to save cabbage until the new harvest: the choice of a suitable variety, the correct preparation of the vegetable, maintaining the optimum temperature and humidity in the room.
