Cabbage is found today in most summer cottages of the country. The choice of varieties from summer residents is huge, but many prefer hybrid varieties. Very popular in this category is the Atria culture, famous for its disease resistance and amicable ripening.

Description of the variety

Atria is a product of Dutch selection, it was bred by the scientists of the Monsanto company back in the 90s of the last century. She added to the list of varieties approved for use on the territory of our country in 1994. Many years have passed since then, and here are the features that summer residents have identified in practice:

  • excellent taste;

  • the ability to bear fruit even in an unfavorable climate;

  • almost complete resistance to cracking;

  • the possibility of long-term storage;

  • improved taste characteristics during storage, which is rare for cabbage in general;

  • wonderful presentation that attracts the attention of buyers;

  • the possibility of hassle-free transportation.

Atria has almost no minuses. It is demanding to care for, but such are the majority of cabbage varieties. Due to the hybridity of the culture, one should also not expect the preservation of varietal characteristics in the future generation, but this, again, is characteristic of all hybrids. Therefore, we can safely say that summer residents did not find significant disadvantages of the variety.

Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and heads of cabbage

First, let's take a look at what the plant itself looks like:

  • the rosette of leaves is medium in size and half-raised;

  • foliage is small, concave, broadly oval or obovate;

  • the leaves are painted in a dark gray-green tone, there is an anthocyanin tint;

  • the vein in the middle of the leaf is light green in color, the edges are even, without waviness and notches;

  • the inner stalk can be short or medium in size.

The foliage is quite dense, and this is the main reason that the cabbage is well stored and well transported.

The heads of cabbage of Atria are very dense and resilient. They have a round or flat-round configuration. Weight is from 1.5 to 3.7 kg on average, there are heads of cabbage and more, from 4 kg. Forks can have a different color: there are both medium-green specimens and grayish tones. If you cut the cabbage, the contents will be greenish-white inside.

Purpose and taste

Atria has a universal purpose. It can be eaten fresh and added to salads. In addition, this variety can be fermented, put in first courses and processed in any other way. The taste, judging by the reviews, is wonderful.

Ripening terms

The hybrid variety is declared as late ripening. The duration of the ripening of the culture is 137-147 days. She ripens well, amicably. In September, gardeners start harvesting heads of cabbage.

Yield

In open ground conditions, most summer residents manage to achieve fairly high performance. The amount harvested varies greatly as cabbage is dependent on care and weather conditions. On average, this is 34.8-104.6 t / ha. In rare cases, the yield reaches 110 tons.

Growing regions

Atria can be cultivated in most of the country. So, summer residents from the following regions exactly faced its cultivation:

  • Central Black Earth;

  • Northwestern;

  • Volgo-Vyatsky;

  • Middle Volga;

  • Ural;

  • West and East Siberian;

  • Far Eastern.

Growing and care

In the middle lane and cool areas, summer residents widely practice the seedling growing method. Seeds are sown in early April. If you take good care of the crops and observe the necessary standards, then from mid-May the sprouts will be ready for planting in open ground. When planting, they adhere to a scheme of 60x40 centimeters.

In areas with very warm climates, the seedling method is usually not used. Gardeners here can afford direct seeding. It is also carried out in April, until the middle of the month. The seeds are planted in grooves spilled with warm manganese solution. At the same time, it is better to put 2 grains at once in the planting hole, since not every seed sprouts. After watering, the plantings are covered. You can get rid of the shelter only after pecking the shoots.

For the harmonious development of Atria cabbage, regular watering is needed. First, it is watered every two days, using 8 liters of warm water per square meter. When the forks begin to tie, watering will need to be reduced to once a week, but with a consumption of 12 liters per square meter. Irrigation is completely stopped 30 days before collection. Watering Atria is recommended between grooves or using a drip system.

Strong and juicy heads of cabbage can be achieved with the right feeding. Experienced gardeners recommend the following schedule:

  • when 8 leaves appear, the sprouts are fed with half a liter of manure solution per well (a kilogram of raw materials per bucket of water);

  • during the formation of heads of cabbage, a solution of ash is given in the amount of a liter per plant (0.5 kg per bucket of water);

  • 30 days before collection, they are fed with iodine (40 drops per bucket, one liter per plant).

If there is no organic matter, then you can take mineral complexes. Usually gardeners use Kemira, nitrophosphate and superphosphate. All dressings are applied to moist soil.

Loosening is carried out after any moistening: both natural and organized independently. Hilling should be done twice, but it is important to consider the method of planting. If it was a seedling, then hilling is carried out 3 weeks after planting and during the formation of heads of cabbage. With a seedless technique, it is worth spilling cabbage after the appearance of 6 leaves and also when tying a head of cabbage.

To grow a rich cabbage crop, you need to know when and how to plant this crop outdoors. Planting dates are determined depending on the variety. It is also necessary to properly prepare the soil and follow the rules of crop rotation.

Proper watering is a prerequisite for agricultural technology when growing cabbage. This vegetable crop prefers regular watering, the frequency of which depends on weather conditions, soil composition, cabbage variety and other characteristics.
Cabbage, like many other vegetables, needs regular hilling. This procedure performs several functions at once: it makes the plants stronger, protects the crop from diseases and pests, retains moisture in the soil, and increases the yield of the crop.

Soil requirements

Plants need light soil with neutral or weak acidity. On dense ground, cabbage will quickly begin to hurt. Atria is planted in moderately humid lands with good air permeability. This should be an area that did not grow crucifers last season.

Important: you should not dig up the site immediately in the spring. Wait for the weeds to germinate, then pluck them out and dig to a depth of about 20 centimeters.

Cabbage requires particularly careful care when growing. The plant quickly absorbs nutrients, so the soil needs to be enriched regularly. Adequate amounts of minerals, organics and nitrogen must be provided. Some products can be purchased at the store, while others are easy to make at home.

Required climatic conditions

Atria should be located only in bright areas. This variety constantly needs light, and the slightest shading will have a detrimental effect on development. Plants are planted in places protected from the wind, and only when there is no threat of frost return.

Disease and pest resistance

The Atria variety is popular due to the fact that it is almost not affected by fungi. The gardeners who grow it claim that they have never encountered a black leg or gray rot. But a viral disease called turnip mosaic sometimes occurs. Unfortunately, such a disease is incurable, so only preventive measures will help here.

As for parasites, the cabbage aphid is often the main pest. If it has already multiplied, then only insecticides will help. In other cases, it is enough to organize a nearby garlic plantation, the smell of which will be an obstacle for the aphids. Chemical preparations will also help against cabbage flea and white beetle. But slugs, gnawing whole passages in heads of cabbage, can be removed with wood ash.

Cabbage is a very popular horticultural crop. But growing a good, large and tasty cabbage is sometimes very difficult, because it is often affected by a huge number of diseases and pests. The main role in the cultivation of this vegetable is played by regular prevention, which helps to get a rich harvest, and prevent the occurrence of diseases and the invasion of harmful insects. It is very important to start treatment as early as possible, otherwise there is a risk of spreading the infection to unaffected plants.

Observance of simple conditions will help to save cabbage until the new harvest: the choice of a suitable variety, the correct preparation of the vegetable, maintaining the optimum temperature and humidity in the room.
