Cabbage is a popular garden vegetable. The Morozko variety fell in love with vegetable growers for its unpretentious care. Even under the most unfavorable conditions, the culture pleases with a good harvest. In addition, the plant is stored for a long time without losing its external and taste qualities.

Breeding history

The culture was created by domestic breeders S.V. Maksimov and N.N.Klimenko in 2007. The variety is intended for growing both outdoors and indoors.

Description of the variety

Morozko white cabbage has significant advantages, in contrast to a number of other varieties.

  • Keeping quality indicators are excellent. Heads of cabbage are able to lie without losing their taste and appearance for 8 months.
  • The marketability of the variety is very high - 96%. Due to the excellent density of the heads, the fruits do not suffer during transport.
  • The culture is highly resistant to sudden changes in temperature. The plant can be grown in temperate and harsher climates.
  • The variety has a high resistance to head cracking. Moreover, this property is retained not only when the site is waterlogged, but also when the harvest is untimely.
  • High-yielding species.
  • The culture is excellent at adapting to a variety of light conditions. Frosty bears fruit well and subject to a lack of sunlight.

However, despite a number of advantages, there is also a disadvantage. To get a decent harvest, the variety needs to be watered regularly, especially when dry weather sets in. At the same time, it is impossible to swamp the site too much - excessive waterlogging not only negatively affects the growing season, but can also provoke the development of fungal infections.

Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and heads of cabbage

The leaf rosette is raised. The leaves are medium in size and have a bubbly surface and a wavy edge. The color of the leaves is rich green. As it thickens, it becomes lighter. By the end of ripening, the inner part turns out to be white-yellow in color. The wax coating is practically unnoticeable.

Morozko's heads of cabbage grow small, but with a very impressive density. The shape is rounded-flat, running down to the base. The cut is white, with a stump of medium length. On average, the weight of one head is 2-3 kg.

Purpose and taste

The palatability is assessed as good, without bitterness, even after heat treatment. The texture is juicy and delicate, which lasts for quite a long time.

The culture is intended for fresh consumption. But the vegetable is especially appreciated in pickling, salting, stewing and baking.

Ripening terms

Late maturing view. From the moment of germination to technical ripeness, 180-185 days pass. Harvesting begins at the end of September, including the whole of October.

Yield

This variety is quite high-yielding. On average, 313-624 centners of cabbage are obtained from 1 hectare.

Growing regions

Morozko is intended for cultivation in almost all regions of the country, even in areas with a rather cold climate. However, the variety has the best yield indicators when grown in the Central Region.

Growing and caring

In order to get good seedlings, it is necessary to select high-quality seed. Seeds should be sorted by selecting the largest ones. A few days before planting, the seeds are disinfected and treated with a development stimulating agent. The swollen seed is spread in a damp napkin and left in the refrigerator for a day in order to harden. These hardened seeds are cold-resistant and germinate earlier.

The optimal time for sowing seeds for seedlings is April. Soil for seedlings is chosen nutritious and loose. Seeds are cultivated to a depth of no more than 1-1.5 cm, carefully irrigated with water and covered with foil. A favorable temperature for germination is + 18 ... 20 degrees. With the emergence of seedlings, the indicators are reduced to + 15 ... 18 degrees during the day and + 12 ... 15 at night.

With the appearance of several full-fledged leaves on the seedlings, the seedlings dive. After the procedure, it is necessary to feed the plants with complex mineral fertilizers and start hardening for several weeks. Cabbage is planted in open ground in late May - early June, when the soil warms up well. The timing largely depends on the climatic conditions of the region. A distance of 70 cm is maintained between the holes and rows.

Watering is carried out no more than 1 time a week. Do not overmoisten the area, this can lead to the development of fungal infections. Hilling and loosening of the beds is carried out after each watering. Top dressing is standard as for other cruciferous varieties.

To grow a rich cabbage crop, you need to know when and how to plant this crop outdoors. Planting dates are determined depending on the variety. It is also necessary to properly prepare the soil and follow the rules of crop rotation.

Proper watering is a prerequisite for agricultural technology when growing cabbage. This vegetable crop prefers regular watering, the frequency of which depends on weather conditions, soil composition, cabbage variety and other characteristics.
Cabbage, like many other vegetables, needs regular hilling. This procedure performs several functions at once: it makes the plants stronger, protects the crop from diseases and pests, retains moisture in the soil, and increases the yield of the crop.

Soil requirements

The variety prefers to grow on neutral or slightly acidic soils. The soil is prepared for planting in the fall. The site is carefully dug up, applying organic fertilizers. Excessively acidic soil is diluted with limestone. In the spring, the place is dug up again.

Cabbage requires particularly careful care when growing. The plant quickly absorbs nutrients, so the soil needs to be enriched regularly. Adequate amounts of minerals, organics and nitrogen must be provided. Some products can be purchased at the store, while others are easy to make at home.

Cabbage is a very popular horticultural crop. But growing a good, large and tasty cabbage is sometimes very difficult, because it is often affected by a huge number of diseases and pests. The main role in the cultivation of this vegetable is played by regular prevention, which helps to get a rich harvest, and prevent the occurrence of diseases and the invasion of harmful insects. It is very important to start treatment as early as possible, otherwise there is a risk of spreading the infection to unaffected plants.

Observance of simple conditions will help to save cabbage until the new harvest: the choice of a suitable variety, the correct preparation of the vegetable, maintenance of the optimum temperature and humidity in the room.
