To eat tasty and healthy cabbage all winter, it is enough to plant a variety suitable for long-term storage on the garden ridge. The unpretentious, fruitful and tasty cabbage varieties include a hybrid of the domestic selection of Kryumont.

Breeding history

White cabbage Creumont is a hybrid with a long history, bred by a group of Russian breeders - A.V. Kryuchkov, G.V. Monakhos, A.A. Lezhnina, V.G. Suddenko and D.V. Patsuria in 1988. After variety trials (in 1992), the vegetable crop was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation. The vegetable is grown in open ground - garden ridges, farmland. A vegetable can grow in different climatic conditions - from the Central to the Far Eastern regions.

Description of the variety

The Creumont hybrid is a compact plant with a half-raised rosette of leaves. The plant is characterized by elongated leaves, stretching up to 60 cm in height. The foliage is uniformly colored in a dark green color with a grayish tint and semi-fanned venation of the plates. The diameter of the rosette of leaves does not exceed 70-75 cm. The average number of leaves is 25-30 pieces. A characteristic feature is a pronounced waxy coating of leaf plates and unusual crenate-toothed edges.

Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and heads of cabbage

Cabbage belongs to medium-sized varieties. Heads of cabbage ripen morphologically aligned and neat. The average head mass is 1.9-2.1 kg. The shape of the heads of cabbage is correct - round or round-flat. Externally, the cabbage heads are evenly covered with a grayish-green color, and inside the cabbage is greenish-white. Heads of cabbage are characterized by a dense structure. The inner stump is shortened, and the outer stump is of medium length.

Ripe heads are easily transported over long distances, and can also be stored in a cool room for up to 6-7 months without decaying or cracking. The huge advantage of the hybrid is that vegetables can be harvested mechanically.

Purpose and taste

Despite the fact that Creumont is a hybrid, the cabbage tastes great. The taste contains juiciness, a refreshing aroma, as well as a pleasant crunch that does not disappear even after heat treatment. The vegetable does not have wateriness and fiber. The only feature that is not considered a disadvantage is a slight bitterness, which passes 2-3 months after cleaning from the garden. It is also worth noting the presence of vitamin C in cabbage, as well as carotene and sugars.

Ripe heads of cabbage have a wide range of uses in cooking - cabbage is pickled, added to salads, to hot and cold dishes, pickled, fermented, stewed. In addition, the hybrid is ideal for harvesting for the winter.

Ripening terms

Creumont is a late-ripening cabbage. From the moment of mass germination of sprouts to maturation of the heads in the beds, 165-170 days pass. Heads of cabbage spice together. Harvesting is recommended between September and October.

Yield

The hybrid is declared as a high-yielding hybrid. From 1 m2 of plantings, you can cut up to 5-7 kg of leveled cabbage heads. On an industrial scale, an average of 409-510 centners per hectare of plantings can be harvested.

Growing and caring

The vegetable is cultivated mainly in seedlings. Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out in the first half of April, and transplanting to the garden is performed at the end of May, when the air and soil are well warmed up. The germination of the culture is fast, so the first shoots after sowing the seeds appear after 7-8 days. When transplanted into open ground, seedling bushes should have 2-3 pairs of true leaves and a formed root system. Landing is carried out according to the standard scheme - 60x40 cm.

Caring for cabbage consists of the following activities: watering with warm water every 3 days, feeding twice during the growing season, weeding regularly after each watering, loosening the soil, hilling plants (twice a season is enough), as well as preventing diseases and insect infestations.

To grow a rich cabbage crop, you need to know when and how to plant this crop outdoors. Planting dates are determined depending on the variety. It is also necessary to properly prepare the soil and follow the rules of crop rotation.

Proper watering is a prerequisite for agricultural technology when growing cabbage. This vegetable crop prefers regular watering, the frequency of which depends on weather conditions, soil composition, cabbage variety and other characteristics.
Cabbage, like many other vegetables, needs regular hilling. This procedure performs several functions at once: it makes the plants stronger, protects the crop from diseases and pests, retains moisture in the soil, and increases the yield of the crop.

Soil requirements

There are no special requirements for a vegetable crop for the structure of the soil, but cabbage prefers light, fluffy, nutritious and air-permeable soils. The acidity should be neutral or reduced.

Cabbage requires particularly careful care when growing. The plant quickly absorbs nutrients, so the soil needs to be enriched regularly. Adequate amounts of minerals, organics and nitrogen must be provided. Some products can be purchased at the store, while others are easy to make at home.

Required climatic conditions

The hybrid has good stress resistance, providing resistance to cold snaps. Cabbage is planted in leveled, weed-free areas, where there should be a lot of light and sun heat. It is desirable that the plants are protected from drafts.

Disease and pest resistance

Vegetable immunity is high. Due to its immunity, cabbage is resistant to fusarium wilt and is also tolerant to bacteriosis. It is extremely rare for a vegetable to attack aphids, a butterfly and a flea. Preventive spraying with insecticides will help prevent the invasion of pests.

Cabbage is a very popular horticultural crop. But growing a good, large and tasty cabbage is sometimes very difficult, because it is often affected by a huge number of diseases and pests. The main role in the cultivation of this vegetable is played by regular prevention, which helps to get a rich harvest, and prevent the occurrence of diseases and the invasion of harmful insects. It is very important to start treatment as early as possible, otherwise there is a risk of spreading the infection to unaffected plants.

Observance of simple conditions will help to save cabbage until the new harvest: the choice of a suitable variety, the correct preparation of the vegetable, maintenance of the optimum temperature and humidity in the room.
