Dobrovodskaya cabbage is a medium-late high-yielding crop intended for cultivation in northern and southern latitudes. Despite the formation of large and juicy heads, the variety is not intended for long-term storage and is mainly used for blanks. A characteristic feature of cabbage is almost 100% germination of seed material and rooting of seedlings at the level of 95%.

Description of the variety

Dobrovodskaya cabbage is a medium late variety of Czech selection, the breeding and registration of which was completed in 1956. For many years, the Czech agricultural holding Moravoseed has been producing seed material and supplying it to wholesale and retail trade, whose products, subject to all agricultural practices, have almost 100% germination. The mid-late variety is intended for cultivation in the middle and southern climatic latitudes. In areas with more severe weather conditions, the heads do not have time to form completely. Due to its simplicity in care, stable yield and universal purpose, the variety of white cabbage has been popular in many countries of the world for many years.

Advantages:

  • high productivity;

  • the formation of large heads;

  • excellent taste characteristics;

  • attractive spherical shape;

  • resistance to sharp temperature fluctuations;

  • a high percentage of germination, which can reach 100%;

  • dense structure without internal voids;

  • possibility of transportation without deformation;

  • high sugar content;

  • resistance to cracking;

  • the presence of a small internal stump.

Disadvantages:

  • short storage period;

  • exactingness to watering.

Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and heads of cabbage

Dobrovodskaya cabbage is a medium-late ripening variety that has a slightly raised leaf rosette. The height of the plant does not exceed 40 cm, and its diameter is 70-80 cm. Small leaf plates with wavy edges are painted in a deep green color and have a faint matte bloom. On a short stump, spherical large heads of regular shape are formed. The tight fit of the leaf plates to each other gives the heads of cabbage the maximum level of density and completely deprives them of internal voids. The heads are covered with green outer leaf plates, while the inner part is painted in a snow-white color scheme. The average weight of ripe heads of cabbage is 6-7 kg, but if all agrotechnical features of cultivation of the variety are observed, the weight of the heads can reach 9-10 kg

Purpose and taste

The high-yielding variety has excellent taste characteristics. The juicy, sugary and dense structure allows the use of white cabbage for preparing fresh vitamin salads, however, due to the short storage period, the harvested crop is mainly used for pickling, pickling, canning and pickling.

Ripening terms

The technical ripeness of mid-late heads of cabbage occurs in 160-165 days from the moment the first shoots appear. The optimal time for harvesting is at the end of September and beginning of October before the onset of the first frost.After exposure to the crop of short-term frosts, the storage period is significantly reduced.

Yield

Dobrovodskaya cabbage belongs to high-yielding varieties that are capable of forming an average of 12 kg to 14 kg of large heads of cabbage on an area of 1 m2. The yield percentage depends on the region of cultivation and on seasonal weather conditions.

Growing and care

To obtain juicy and dense heads of large size, a late-ripening culture must be grown by the seedling method. Planting material is best purchased from an official Czech manufacturer who is responsible for the products sold. The soil mixture for planting seeds should consist of garden soil, peat and humus. Before planting, the planting material must be soaked in warm water for several hours, and then treated with disinfectant solutions and growth stimulants. The optimal time for planting seeds for seedlings is April.

The site for a permanent growth site should be well lit and protected from strong currents of cold winds. The crop gives the highest yield percentage in areas with fertile black soil, the acidity level of which is close to neutral. The planting of mature seedlings should be carried out in the growth phase of 4-6 true leaves. Vegetable breeders recommend replanting plants in the third decade of May or the first decade of June, when the threat of the last frost has completely passed. To prevent thickening of the site and the spread of viral and fungal diseases when planting seedlings, the distance between them must be observed. The standard planting pattern is 60 by 50 cm.

To plant cabbage, it is necessary to form holes no more than 10 cm deep and water them abundantly. After rooting the seedlings, the entire root zone must be mulched. The planted plants must be regularly weeded, hilled, fed and weeded. Despite the ease of maintenance, special attention must be paid to watering, which must be carried out every 2-3 days and preferably by the drip method.

To grow a rich cabbage crop, you need to know when and how to plant this crop outdoors. Planting dates are determined depending on the variety. It is also necessary to properly prepare the soil and follow the rules of crop rotation.

Proper watering is a prerequisite for agricultural technology when growing cabbage. This vegetable crop prefers regular watering, the frequency of which depends on weather conditions, soil composition, cabbage variety and other characteristics.
Cabbage, like many other vegetables, needs regular hilling. This procedure performs several functions at once: it makes the plants stronger, protects the crop from diseases and pests, retains moisture in the soil, and increases the yield of the crop.

Cabbage requires particularly careful care when growing. The plant quickly absorbs nutrients, so the soil needs to be enriched regularly. Adequate amounts of minerals, organics and nitrogen must be provided. Some products can be purchased at the store, while others are easy to make at home.

Disease and pest resistance

Dobrovodskaya cabbage is a high-yielding, unpretentious variety that has a high immune response to diseases such as fusarium blight, gray rot, black leg and fomoz. However, the harvest can be spoiled by the keel, as well as by aphids, cabbage flies, slugs and cabbage whites.

Cabbage is a very popular horticultural crop. But growing a good, large and tasty cabbage is sometimes very difficult, because it is often affected by a huge number of diseases and pests. The main role in the cultivation of this vegetable is played by regular prevention, which helps to get a rich harvest, and prevent the occurrence of diseases and the invasion of harmful insects. It is very important to start treatment as early as possible, otherwise there is a risk of spreading the infection to still unaffected plants.

Observance of simple conditions will help to save cabbage until the new harvest: the choice of a suitable variety, the correct preparation of the vegetable, maintaining the optimum temperature and humidity in the room.
