Currently, a lot of different garden equipment has appeared, greatly facilitating the implementation of various works on the improvement of personal plots. This article explains about Pole Pruners.

Purpose and types

A garden pole saw is a hand-held device consisting of an elongated handle (most often a telescopic type) with a cutting tool at one end. With the Pole Pruner, you can trim dead branches while on the ground, rather than climbing a tree up a ladder. They can also maintain the curly shape of trees, tall shrubs and perform other manipulations.

Poles are divided into several types, which will be discussed below.

  • Mechanical. Such models are a pruning device with an adjustable bar extended up to 4 m. The advantages of this type of pole saws include a low price, durability and ease of use. They are usually designed to be lightweight for the cutting edge - this makes the user less fatigued and makes them more comfortable to use in situations where the freedom of action is limited by uneven terrain or thicket. It should also be noted that the handles of mechanical pole saws are equipped with limiters and special pads to prevent slipping in the hands and getting accidental injuries.
  • Electrical. As the name suggests, these devices only function when connected to the mains. This type of pole saw resembles a long-arm chainsaw. The advantages of this device include quiet operation, evenness of cut, availability of cutting height up to 4 m, comfortable handle. There are also disadvantages: the radius of use depends on the length of the cord, and there is also an inconvenience of using in areas with limited visibility or hilly terrain.
  • Gasoline. The design of this type of Pole Pruner is very similar to the electric models, but is much more powerful, mobile and productive. Petrol Pole Pruners can cut even very thick branches. Most often, this type of device is used to maintain and improve the appearance of trees and shrubs in parks and forest parks. To the disadvantages of gasoline garden height-cutters, consumers attribute a high level of noise during operation, a rather large mass of the device and a high price.
  • Rechargeable. These models incorporate the best qualities of both electric and gasoline models - mobility, power, quietness and light weight. The range of such devices is quite large, but the main differences between the models are in the battery capacity and motor power. It is recommended that you select devices with the maximum battery capacity so that you do not take an unplanned break due to a dead battery.

In order to reduce hand fatigue, it is recommended to use a system of lashing straps, which will ensure a secure fixation of the tool in the hands - this applies to all types of pole saws, except mechanical.

    How to choose?

First of all, the choice of the model of the pole saw should depend on the area of the land plot that needs to be processed using this device. In the case when the garden is not huge in size and its area is only 6-10 acres, it is more advisable to purchase a mechanical version.

If the area of the site is quite large and there are many trees and shrubs growing on it, which need regular pruning, then an electric model should be selected. Compared to the gasoline version, it will delight you with a low noise level and the absence of harmful emissions.

In the case when a pole saw is needed to process a huge territory or a park, it is necessary to choose a gasoline or battery type of device.

Also, do not forget about other factors when choosing such a tool.

    • The longer the boom, the taller the trees can be trimmed from the ground. If it has a telescopic design, it is even better - you can easily adjust the processing height.
    • Motor power. Devices with the highest possible power are preferable to low-power models.
    • The longer the cutting section of the tool, the less time it will take to trim. But for dense crowns, it is better to choose a model with a smaller cutting part.
    • The less weight the model has, the more comfortable it is to use.
    • It is better to purchase devices with automatic chain lubrication - it will provide a longer tool life.
    • Loudness of noise during operation. Of course, the lower the noise level, the better.
