Cucumber variety Merry Gnomes is a tasty and funny inhabitant of your garden. In this article, we will analyze its main characteristics, as well as the nuances of planting and care.

Breeding history

The variety emerged in 2012 as a hybrid, and we owe its appearance to a galaxy of domestic breeders, including N.V. Nastenko, V.G. Kachainik, O.V. Astakhova. In 2013, Veselye Gnomiki was included in the State Register.

Description of the variety

The plant is officially prescribed to plant in open ground and under film shelters in private farms. The variety is prescribed for planting in almost all regions of our country.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents

The variety is considered indeterminate. It has low branching and medium, dark green leaves. The plant has a female flowering type, and the number of female flowers in a node usually reaches 3-4 pieces.

And now about the most delicious part: the greens of the plant are short, only 8-9 cm long. The weight of one fruit reaches 70-80 g. The color of the surface of cucumbers is a rich dark green color, with short stripes and small tubercles throughout the area.

Purpose and taste of fruits

Cucumbers taste excellent. They are recommended for consumption in salad form, salting, canning and ordinary fresh consumption.

Maturation

In terms of ripening, the hybrid belongs to the early ones. The period from the appearance of the first shoots to the first wave of the harvest takes 38-40 days on average.

Overgrowth is unusual for cucumbers, and they tolerate transportation quite calmly.

Yield

Despite the size of the fruit, the Veselye Gnomiki variety is considered a high-yielding variety. Gardeners collect from one square meter from 12.8 to 13.5 kg.

Landing scheme

The permissible planting pattern is 50x40 cm, where the first value is the distance between the bushes, the second is the distance between the rows. The depth of the hole is 2-3 cm.

Growing and care

A plot suitable for this variety, flat, sheltered from strong winds and exposed to the sun. Dolomite flour, as well as saltpeter and manure, are introduced into the soil with high humidity.

In warm regions, planting is carried out immediately in an open area or in a greenhouse, in May. Previously, the soil is dug up, introducing compost and other fertilizers (humus or 15 g of potassium nitrate or superphosphate), cleared of weeds and disinfected the soil. There are 4-5 holes per 1 m2.

Cheerful gnomes, in case of night cold snaps, are covered with a film shelter. In the northern regions, the seedling method is more often used. In the future, it can be transferred to open ground in early April. Seeds in two are introduced into peat pots or plastic cups, moistened and left in a place with a temperature of 20-22 degrees Celsius. You can water the seedlings from a spray bottle with warm, settled water.

Planting is carried out in the presence of 3-4 full leaves. Deepening is made by 7-10 cm. Plants spud and slightly compact the ground. Next, it must be watered abundantly.

In the open field, the watering schedule is every 3 days, at the root.Watering is carried out in the morning or in the evening. In case of drought, cucumbers are moisturized every day.

The variety is unassuming to form, which will make the work easier. Lateral shoots are blinded to the third leaf, at the same level, leaves are removed from the main shoot. Funny gnomes respond well to a vertical garter.

The plant especially needs feeding only during the period of formation. The first time they are fed 2 weeks after planting with solutions of manure or chicken droppings. Further feeding is applied regularly with a frequency of 10 days. During the period of active growth, nitrogen fertilizers are applied, and with the appearance of the first ovaries, potassium-phosphorus and organic fertilizers.

The soil periodically needs to be loosened and hilled up - for the formation of a healthy, full-fledged root system and saturation of the earth with oxygen. Immediately after transferring the seedlings, the Merry Dwarfs are huddled up to half their height.

In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.

Disease and pest resistance

The hybrid tolerates cladosporia well (aka brown olive spot) and has an average resistance to:

  • powdery mildew;
  • downy mildew;
  • the cucumber mosaic virus.

The variety most often gets sick in improperly created greenhouse conditions, with insufficient weeding or watering. Let's consider the most common diseases.

  1. Anthracnose. It occurs at high humidity and temperature and is characterized by small wet yellow spots on the leaves. It is treated with a solution of copper sulfate, a Bordeaux mixture, as well as additional spraying of the greenhouse with a solution of potassium permanganate.
  2. Whitefly. The insect is based on the bottom of the leaf. It is treated by removing insects by hand and washing the leaves with a mild solution of laundry soap.
  3. Aphid. It spreads in the same places as the whitefly. The safest remedy that gardeners advise is a solution of wood ash or the same laundry soap (through spraying). As analogs, a weak decoction of celandine is used.

Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
