Cucumber Boy with a finger is an unpretentious variety in care that gives a bountiful harvest in a relatively short time. The fruits are small, attractive in appearance. The hybrid was created by domestic breeders relatively recently, but has gained great popularity among vegetable growers.

Description of the variety

The plant belongs to hybrid varieties. When it was created, the species of cucumbers of the northern genotype were used, which have rather high cold-resistant and shade-tolerant properties. In addition, the culture has high adaptive performance. The vegetable can be grown outdoors, in a greenhouse, and also cultivated on a balcony or windowsill.

The F1 hybrid is not suitable for propagation as it shows the best fruiting characteristics only in the first generation. Therefore, the seeds must be purchased from a trusted manufacturer that monitors the quality of the seeds.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents

Plant of indeterminate type, vigorous, reaching a height of several meters, with an average degree of branching. Leaves are small, waviness is absent or not pronounced along the edges. Slightly wrinkled green leaf plate. The long period of active fruiting is self-regulating due to intense branching.

The flowering type is female, without barren flowers. The number of tuft ovaries is from 2–3 to 5–6 per node, the number of which depends on the illumination: the more, the more abundant. The main feature of the variety is its ability to self-regulate branching. While there is a massive filling of fruits on the main stem, the growth of lateral shoots is inhibited, then the stems begin to develop intensively and bear fruit effectively. In addition, the hybrid does not require the obligatory formation, removal and pinching of secondary shoots.

Zelentsy are small, the maximum length is 6–10 cm. On average, the weight of one fruit is 50–65 g. Their shape is oval without a neck, with a small tuberous surface and a thornless white prolapse. The color of the cucumbers is bright green, with a few faint light stripes.

Purpose and taste of fruits

Cucumbers Boy with a finger have excellent taste and a pleasant cucumber aroma. Ripe fruits have a dense texture with a characteristic crunch. Seeds in greenery do not ripen, due to which the fruits have an attractive appearance and the same size.

Thin rind without bitterness. The pulp is very tender, with a high content of sugars and useful microelements. The fruits tolerate transportation well. When pickled, cucumbers retain their taste, remain firm and crispy, without losing their shape.

Maturation

It is characterized by early ripening of the crop. For the hybrid, 39–41 days are enough from the moment the first shoots appear until the fruit is obtained. The plant belongs to the category of parthenocarpic varieties. The ovaries are formed without fertilization.

Yield

A boy with a finger is a high-yielding variety. With proper agricultural technology, the yield is from 10 to 13 kg per 1 m 2. An important condition for long-term harvesting is the daily harvesting of fruits.

Landing scheme

When planting cucumbers, you should adhere to the scheme: in the open field no more than 3-4, and in a greenhouse 2.5 plants per 1 sq. m. The beds are made at a distance of 60–70 cm from each other. Between plants 25–30 cm when using trellis cultivation, 40–45 cm if the branches will creep along the ground.

Growing and care

The culture is not particularly whimsical to care for. However, in order to obtain a good harvest, it is necessary to comply with the general varietal requirements. Before planting, the seeds must be warmed up for 3-4 weeks at a temperature of + 16 ... + 18 °. Then no manipulation is needed. As a rule, the producer treats the seeds with special disinfectants and stimulants.

A plot for cultivation is prepared in the fall. The place is carefully dug up and the ground is sprayed with an antiseptic, for example, a solution of copper sulfate. In this way, you need to disinfect the beds 1 time in 5 years, this allows you to get rid of bacteria that hibernate in the soil. It is especially important to carry out the procedure after tomatoes.

The place should be as sunny as possible. The plant develops intensively and bears fruit on medium loamy, breathable soils. A week before planting the seedlings, you need to make top dressing. For this, compost or humus is added. With a lack of organic matter, the soil can be enriched with mineral fertilizers (ammonium nitrate, potassium and phosphorus). The granules can be added directly to the well.

They begin to germinate seeds for seedlings in late March - early April. For this, separate peat cups are used. Thanks to this method, the seedlings will take root faster and will more easily endure the adaptation period. Seedlings are planted in open ground when the threat of recurrent night spring frosts has passed. You can sow seeds in open ground at the end of May. However, the timing of planting largely depends on the climatic conditions of the region.

Top dressing is applied every 2 weeks from the moment the sprouts appear. At first, the plant needs nitrogen-containing fertilizers. You should be careful with nitrogen, especially when fruits begin to form, as it can accumulate in vegetables in the form of nitrates. With the beginning of flowering, a Boy with a finger especially needs phosphorus-potassium fertilizers.

Watering is carried out abundantly, especially if the hybrid is grown in a greenhouse, and when dry weather sets in. Irrigation is carried out every 3-4 days. A rainy summer makes it possible to reduce the frequency of watering. It is necessary to loosen the beds constantly, especially after irrigation. In addition, it is an effective prevention of the development of diseases.

In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.

Disease and pest resistance

Breeders sought to create a hybrid that staunchly resists most of the diseases inherent in the culture. The variety is not susceptible to cucumber mosaic virus, brown olive spot and powdery mildew. To avoid the development of infections, basic agrotechnical rules should be followed.

Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
