The Nezhinsky variety has long been known to Russian agronomists. Its history goes back several centuries and dates back to the middle of the 18th century. This variety was named after the Ukrainian city of Nizhyn. Delicious and crispy vegetables were in demand in Europe and in Tsarist Russia.

Description of the variety

The plant is actively developing, quickly filling the site. A long lash does not allow growing this variety on a balcony or loggia. It is pollinated with the help of bees. Saplings are planted in open ground or under film shelters. Mixed flowering. With proper care, the plant boasts long-term fruiting. Cucumber bushes easily tolerate temperature changes. Breeders have developed a variety that is not afraid of most diseases and is undemanding to grow.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents

A vigorous plant has an indeterminate type of growth (up to two meters). It differs from other varieties in strong branching and long vines. Leaves grow small, bright green. They have a standard form. During the flowering period, the bush is covered with yellow flowers, consisting of five petals.

The fruits grow small and gain weight from 80 to 110 grams. The length is from 10 to 12 centimeters. The shape is elongated, ovoid. The skin of the cucumbers is green, with noticeable stripes of medium length. The surface of the cucumbers is lumpy. The flesh is light green and very crispy. Small black thorns are visible on a green background.

Purpose and taste of fruits

The gastronomic quality of the fruit is excellent. This is the opinion of both experienced agronomists and beginners. A multipurpose crop is perfect for canning and salads. Many people prefer to feast on them fresh in order to enjoy the crunch and juiciness.

Maturation

A mid-season variety forms a harvest 46-51 days after the first shoots appear. These dates may shift slightly under the influence of weather conditions and climate.

Yield

The average yield is 4.9 kilograms per square meter of the garden. Ripe vegetables are harvested from mid to late summer, from July to August. The work is carried out when the sun is less active, in the morning or in the evening. On a cloudy day, it doesn't matter when to perform this procedure. The recommended picking schedule is every two days.

The vegetable boxes should be moved to a dark place or simply put in the shade. Before sending for storage, it is undesirable to wash the fruits, so as not to damage their natural protective layer. The peduncle is left.

Growing and care

As soon as the plant forms the first shoots, it must be fertilized with a mineral composition that contains phosphorus, magnesium and nitrogen. Each of the components is necessary for cucumber bushes during a certain growing season. Top dressing should not be carried out in hot weather, when the sun is as active as possible. Some types of dressings are not poured under the root, but distributed over the plants through spraying.

As soon as the fruiting season begins, the bushes are treated with a solution of the following components:

  • copper sulfate - 2 grams;
  • boric acid - 2 grams;
  • potassium permanganate - 3 grams;
  • urea - 50 grams.

All components are mixed and dissolved in ten liters of water.

Organic dressings are also widespread. They are easy to prepare, and they are not inferior in efficiency to ready-made formulations.

Gardeners recommend the following recipes:

  • weed infusion;
  • manure solution;
  • ash from the furnace;
  • a mixture based on yeast or bread.

Watering is an important part of care. Irrigate the area with warm and settled water, carefully pouring it under the root. Regularity - every other day. For convenience, it is advisable to install drip irrigation, which will moderately moisturize the soil, preventing drying out and excessive moisture.

The beds are regularly cleaned of weeds. Hilling and loosening of the soil is also carried out. To save time, it is advisable to cover the beds with a layer of mulch. In this case, there is no need for hilling and loosening.

You will also need to install additional supports. Given the length of the vine, you cannot do without supports. Plants attach to them as they grow. The supports are installed after the first two full-fledged leaves appear. Plants are fastened carefully so as not to harm them.

It is important to harvest on time, as overripe fruits greatly weaken the bushes. Regular removal of vegetables has a positive effect on the formation of new fruit ovaries.

Also, when growing, you need to take into account the characteristics of the variety:

  • seedlings prefer sunny areas;
  • plants are not afraid of low temperatures;
  • water used for irrigation, it is advisable to leave outside, so it will be heated by the sun.

Soil requirements

The quality and quantity of the crop is influenced by the correct choice of planting site and the quality of the soil. The selected area begins to be prepared in the fall. The soil is mixed with fresh manure, which will make the soil more nutritious. They also pay attention to their predecessors. The best fruit crops are potatoes, cabbage and tomatoes. Cucumbers of all varieties do not grow well after melons.

The root system of plants does not develop well in heavy and clayey soil. You can fix this problem with humus. Before planting seedlings, the earth is carefully dug up and cleaned of excess plants. If the site is loamy, about a month before sowing the seed, manure is introduced into it.

In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.

Disease and pest resistance

The Nezhinsky variety has excellent resistance to fungal diseases, while you should not completely abandon preventive measures. They will only improve the health of the bushes. To keep the immune system strong, you need to regularly clean the bushes from the lower leaves, and also tie up the vine in time.

If the weather conditions create discomfort, for example, the rainy season is prolonged, the plants are regularly sprayed with fungicides.

This variety is subject to powdery mildew. So that the fruit crop does not suffer from this disease, you need to treat the beds with the following composition: a liter of mullein and 20 grams of urea per 10 liters of clean water. To protect cucumbers from aphids and other harmful insects, spraying is carried out using a solution based on soap or wood ash.

Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
