Cucumbers growing both in the greenhouse and in the open field love different kinds of feeding. For this, many summer residents use chicken manure, which has a lot of useful properties, contains many substances necessary for the plant and has a beneficial effect on planting. Below you can familiarize yourself with its features, rules of application and preparation of solutions from it.

Peculiarities

Chicken manure as a fertilizer is not suitable for all plants, but for cucumber bushes it is simply necessary. Feeding cucumbers with chicken droppings will greatly benefit the plantings due to the large amount of necessary trace elements in it. It will contribute to the development of plants, their active growth of green mass, as well as the formation and formation of good and healthy fruits. On average, after using such fertilizers, the number of fruits increases by about 40%.

Poultry droppings contain a whole range of mineral components such as potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc, manganese and more. Poultry droppings are especially rich in phosphorus. In this regard, it is ahead of other types of fertilizers.

In addition to microelements, poultry droppings contain organic acids, vitamins and biologically active substances that are important for plants, which have a positive effect on plant development. Moreover, all substances contained in this fertilizer are easily assimilated.

The beneficial effect of this kind of fertilizers can be seen already 2-3 weeks after the first use. A big plus is that this is a completely environmentally friendly fertilizer, which, moreover, does not have a high cost and is not difficult to use. It does not contain toxic substances and is absolutely safe for both humans and plants.

Feeding plants with chicken droppings, you not only contribute to their normal development, but also saturate the soil with important components, which, for the sake of planting, makes it fertile, improves its microflora, protects against burnout and lowers acidity. In addition, chicken dung is very beneficial for plants in that it affects their immune system, making them more resistant to diseases and various harmful insects. The effectiveness of such feeding will persist for a long time, even if it is used infrequently.

Nevertheless Feeding cucumbers with bird droppings also has disadvantages. However, they can only arise if they are used incorrectly.

So, the use of such fertilizers can be fraught with the emergence of various serious diseases in humans, including E. coli and salmonellosis. The reason for this may be the wrong conditions for keeping poultry. If you plan to use the litter of domestic chickens, then you need to carefully monitor their health and provide favorable conditions for their life. Good conditions mean good sanitary conditions and well-organized feeding.

Due to the frequent use of poultry manure as fertilizer, a high content of nitrates can form in the fruits of plants. In addition, odor is another disadvantage of poultry manure fertilizers. It becomes especially sharp if there is an increase in temperature, which is caused by a large amount of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide among other components. In view of this, it is necessary to store such fertilizers away from residential areas.

It is worth noting that if the plant begins to gain vegetative mass with high activity, then fertilizing the plant with this agent must be stopped, otherwise it will have a bad effect on fruiting: all planting forces will go not to the development of good fruits, but to support the life of this green mass.

Preparing a solution from droppings

You can prepare a solution from different types of droppings.

From granular

This kind of fertilizer can be found in most shops for summer residents, it is quite often used for plants.

Outwardly, it looks like granules, the production of which has certain characteristics. It has all the beneficial properties and substances that normal chicken manure does. However, its trace elements have a high concentration, which is why the amount of water will have to be increased to prepare solutions based on granules.

The big advantage of granular fertilizers is a long shelf life, absolute harmlessness to humans, which is explained by high-quality heat treatment. This allows you to eliminate all harmful microorganisms and helminth eggs in the fertilizer. Additional advantages include the absence of a sharp and unpleasant odor.

This fertilizer is used in the same way as self-dried chicken droppings.

Fertilizer is applied in spring or autumn during the period of digging the earth. Wherein each of its square meters accounts for about 150-300 grams of fertilizer. If you use dry granules for already planted plants, then you need to avoid direct contact with the stems or roots.

If you do not want to use dry granules, you can make a solution with their own use. The tool needs to be diluted with water in a ratio of 1 to 50, after which the mixture must be infused for about a day. After that, the infusion can be used. This solution is suitable, in particular, for seedlings, for adult plants, it is necessary to use the components in a ratio of 1 to 100. After preparation with the solution, it is necessary to water the plants, 1.5 liters of the mixture will be enough for each bush.

From home

When preparing fertilizers from poultry droppings, it is necessary to strictly observe the recipe, without deviating from the proportions, otherwise there is a risk of causing great harm to the root system of plants.

There are several ways to make your own natural blend.

  • So, for an infusion, which will be more effective during the period of vegetative mass gain, you will need rotted droppings, which must be diluted with water, after which all this must be mixed well. It will take about 2-3 days to infuse the mixture, its readiness will be evidenced by the color of the solution, which will be light brown and resemble weak tea. If the infusion turned out to be too dark, then you need to add water to it, achieving the concentration you need.
  • You can prepare the solution in a different way. To do this, you need liquid bird droppings, which must be filled with water: for every 500 grams of the component, 10 liters of water must be used. All this must be insisted for 4-5 days, after which you can water the seedlings.
  • There is another fertilizer recipe, which requires a fermented mixture and much more time to prepare. Initially, you need to take dry manure and fill it with water in a ratio of 1 to 20, after which the mixture must be removed to a dark place. The fermentation process must be monitored on an ongoing basis. When the solution stops forming bubbles, which will happen in about 2-3 weeks, this will indicate that it is completely ready. To use it, you must thoroughly strain and then water the cucumber bushes.

It is strongly discouraged to use fresh chicken manure, as it has a high concentration of uric acid and can harm both the plant and its root system.

Before using such fertilizer, it must be well and properly soaked, which can be done using water. Fresh droppings must be filled with water, all this must be insisted, a little later, get rid of excess water and add new water. This must be done 3-4 times. After such procedures, the concentration of the agent will drop significantly, and it can be used without fear of damaging the cucumber bushes.

Timing and frequency of application

It is not recommended to use fertilizers too often, so as not to overdo it and not harm the plant. Track the status of your plantings to know for sure if they have enough nutrients or if you still need to add additional feeding. In general, it is recommended to feed cucumbers only 4 times per season.

  1. For the first time, fertilization is necessary when the first permanent leaves appear on the plant, there should be about 4 of them. It is necessary to introduce a water mixture from poultry droppings strictly at the root.
  2. The second dressing takes place in the cucumber flowering phase.
  3. The third time fertilizers are applied during fruiting, namely at the very beginning.
  4. In general, the fourth time is not necessary, but you can resort to it if fruiting is abruptly interrupted.

How can you feed?

Feeding with fertilizer based on chicken manure can be both those plants that grow in greenhouse conditions, and those that are grown in open ground. In both cases, when applying top dressing, you must be guided by safety rules.

It is required to apply bird droppings both in dry and liquid form strictly with the use of protective equipment, including at least gloves and a mask, and ideally a whole suit.

In the greenhouse

Growing cucumbers in greenhouse conditions, especially if this happens for the first time, their feeding can and should be done even when plants are planted.

Wherein during fertilization, a certain algorithm must be followed. So, the prepared holes for planting must be immediately watered with the finished liquid, after which the seedlings must be planted. After that, it is required to supply each plant with sufficient moisture so that its roots do not get burned.

The plant must take root, after which it is necessary to use fertilizer for it at the onset of the flowering phase. Before applying the fertilizer, each plant must be watered with 2 liters of water, after which you can water it with a mixture of chicken manure, then again with water. It will also help avoid planting burns.

During the budding and fruiting phase, it is required to water the solution not under each plant, but between the rows, after which you need to use water again.

It is necessary to fertilize the plants with special care. Try to use top dressing so that it does not get on the cucumber foliage.

Recall that it is necessary to use fertilizers in moderation, strictly observing the dosage. Otherwise, an overabundance may be fraught with too active a set of vegetative mass, or, conversely, an excessive overgrowth of the culture, due to which the cucumbers will be oversized, but at the same time tough and tasteless.

In the open field

When growing cucumbers in the open field, it is worth feeding them with bird droppings 14 days after you fertilize them using mineral or organic means before the budding stage.

Fertilizing the plantings growing in the garden with the help of chicken droppings, you can increase the growth activity of cucumber bushes and give an impetus to the formation of a large number of ovaries. In addition, this fertilizer can reduce the number of barren flowers.

Besides, you can also use chicken manure to increase the fertility of the land where your plantings grow. To do this, you need dry droppings, which will rot during the winter time and by the period intended for planting cultivated plants, will saturate the soil with useful and nutrients. To carry out this procedure, you will need about 400-800 grams of bird droppings for each square meter, its amount varies depending on the state of the soil. Fertilizer must be poured in the place where you plan to plant cucumbers in the spring, and evenly distribute it over the ground using a rake.
