Almost all small cucumbers that grow less than 12 cm are called gherkins. They are distinguished by their special crunch, excellent taste and ideal small size, which is convenient for canning. There are a large number of varieties of such cucumbers on the market, but the Parisian gherkin has gained particular popularity. It is easy to grow, easy to care for and harvest.

Breeding history

The variety was bred by order of the Poisk agrofirm, which is located in the Moscow region in the village of Vereya. Approved for use in 2006. Designed for outdoor cultivation. But some gardeners recommend growing the crop in plastic greenhouses, especially during cool summers. The variety belongs to the bunch type of cucumbers.

Recommended growing regions: Central and Central Black Earth Region, but many gardeners calmly grow crops in the Urals and Siberia.

Description of the variety

Culture is indeterminate, that is, it has unlimited growth power. That is why the bush must be tied up, otherwise it will begin to creep along the ground. The number of lashes is moderate, but they are all long.

The leaves are medium and large, green and dark green in color.

The flowers are yellow, medium-sized. Female buds are very easy to distinguish from male ones - the former are shaped like an open bell.

Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and zelents

Fruits are short, 7-9 cm long, weighing 57-78 g. There are more weighty ones, up to 90 g, but they are considered overripe. The cucumber is fusiform in shape. The skin is green with small stripes of medium length. On the skin there are noticeable large pimples with small black thorns.

The flesh is crispy and not too watery.

Due to its qualities, the culture can be stored in a cool place for up to 3-4 weeks, and it tolerates transportation well over long distances.

The peculiarity of this selection is that overgrown gherkins do not grow in length, they simply increase in size, fill with water, and large voids form in the pulp.

Purpose and taste of fruits

Zelentsy is pleasant to taste, without bitterness. The aroma is cucumber and very intense. Cucumbers contain a large amount of vitamins and minerals. And also there are only 14 kcal per 100 g.

The variety is versatile, the fruits can be eaten fresh, prepared salads, salted and canned.

With prolonged preservation, voids are not formed in the cavities, and bitterness does not appear.

Maturation

Cucumbers Parisian gherkin are early maturing varieties. The full period of fruit ripening takes 45-50 days.

Yield

From 1 m2 can be removed from 2 to 4 kg. On an industrial scale, the average yield is 101-303 centners per hectare.

Landing scheme

For good growth and a stable harvest, cucumbers should be planted according to the 60x30 cm scheme. It turns out that no more than 3 plants should fall on 1 m2. Otherwise, they will all lack space, minerals and sunlight.

Growing and care

The selected area must be prepared in the fall, after the previous crop has been harvested, and all tops have been removed. It is noted that every three years it is necessary to change the variety of cucumbers or the place for growing.

At the time of digging the site, useful minerals and fertilizers are introduced so that the soil is nourished and more fertile during the winter season.

You can plant cucumbers in two ways: seed and seedling. The first method is when the seeds are immediately planted in open ground. This type is suitable for regions with a mild and warm climate, which does not imply a drop in temperature or possible frost. The seeds are pre-soaked in a small container of water or in a cotton swab so that the seed hatches. Then they are treated with growth preparations and planted on the site. After 5-7 days, the sprout should hatch.

In other regions, it is recommended to germinate seeds first. To do this, you need to prepare seedling boxes and seeds. The material is soaked in water or potassium permanganate for disinfection. Now, some producers process seedlings in advance. This can be determined by the color of the seeds (they can be dyed in different colors). In this case, additional processing is not needed. It is better to heat the soil in the oven before planting in order to destroy all harmful microorganisms.

Small pits 2 cm deep are made in the boxes at a distance of 3 cm from each other. The boxes are placed in a well-lit place at a temperature of 22 ° C.

It is possible to transplant seedlings into open ground when 2-3 strong leaves are formed.

Caring for cucumbers does not require any skill or special knowledge. It is only necessary to perform the following procedures.

  • Regular watering. It is carried out in the morning or evening hours so that the plant does not get sunburn if water drops remain on the leaves. The water should be warm and settled. After that, you can loosen the area around the seedling. You need to loosen it carefully, since at first the roots do not go too deep into the ground. Irrigation is carried out every 5 days, or every 3 days in case of severe drought. For 1 m2, there should be from 5 to 7 liters of water.

  • Organic fertilizers are the best choice. Slurry, superphosphate, urea are popular among them. Top dressing is actively applied, until the beginning of fruiting, with an interval of 5-10 days.

  • Tying is considered one of the most important points in crop care. Since the Parisian gherkin is distinguished by good lateral shoots and the fact that it bushes, it simply needs support. What's more, the suspension guarantees ventilation and good air circulation.

  • Since the variety produces a larger number of female-type buds, additional pollination is sometimes necessary. Most often, traps are used to attract bees. Or they do the following: male flowers are picked and brought to female flowers so that the pistils and stamens touch. There is another option - they take a soft brush and collect pollen by transferring it from flower to flower.

Soil requirements

Cucumbers Parisian gherkins love neutral soil with a small admixture of humus. And also the site should be moderately porous. If this is not enough, then you can add a little black soil and sand when digging the earth. In addition, the soil can be diversified with peat or sawdust. This will trap moisture a little and create a barrier to keep the soil from crusting dry.

In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.

Disease and pest resistance

Gherkins have good immunity to downy mildew and powdery mildew. Therefore, with proper adherence to agricultural technology, problems with this disease will not arise.

Cucumber mosaics pose a threat to culture. It appears as yellow and white spots of various sizes on the sheets. The plate becomes thinner and growth slows down, and then deformation occurs. It is not possible to fight the mosaic. It is recommended to pull out the bush and burn it on the other side of the site so that the disease does not progress and does not spread to other bushes.

Brown spots are a sign of bacteriosis. You can fight it with Bordeaux liquid.

Among pests, cucumbers are most often attacked by sprout flies and aphids. They can be fought with insecticides.

Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
